the french like the british and scottish and irish, and the spanish and a few other countries, all of these are germanic groups, the americans are exactly the same stock as us, our poor lost cousins sometimes get confused where they come from sometimes. by saying europeans dont exist is an attack very much on the americans as well as the australians for being decendants of british prisoners and those in south america and mexico due to spanish and portugese interference.
so you are on your own OP.
now as far as the maint cycle is concerned, that doesnt bother me, what bothers me is trendy still does not do converted timezones since she took over. but that is entirely up to her whatever she does.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
The reason is this:
When the tech guys or whomever is behind starting the update wake up and 3 or 4 AM on Thursday morning, to get into work by 5 or 5:30 to start the update by 6 or 6:30 AM, they use the timezone that they live in to decide when to do all that, which is Pacific (West Coast USA). As has been stated, getting it done so early in the morning - in the Pacific timezone, this gives them the maximum amount of time to work out any kinks or problems that arise, so that they can ensure that everything is working before everyone has off at the weekend. This includes time for emergency patches on Friday if something goes wrong overnight.
Oh, and if something does go wrong, these tech guys are on call and have to drag themselves back into the office and work as long as it takes to fix the problem, sometimes over 24 hours in a row. I.T. is quite possibly the most thankless job in the universe.
Sorry it interferes with your game time (I know the feeling, I've played several MMO's on European servers, even though I live on the East Coast of the U.S., because I had friends and Guilds I joined there. It meant adjusting my time around my game time. Easier for me than for you of course.) but they have to work to what hours are available to them in their timezone, otherwise the tech guys wouldn't get any sleep and larger mistakes would happen because they were all hopped up on no sleep and Redbull.

Pretty much this. If you dislike it, you need to entice the company to move to your time zone. Then watch the forums explode when someone from a different time zone makes the same complaints.

Seriously though the answer is obvious, because thats the best time for Cryptic and the majority of gamers and it's a relatively small inconvenience. The fact that you don't care about anyone but yourself and you have no concept of how many timezones exist in Europe means your either Polish or German depending upon whether your just stupid or arrogant beyond belief.
Meh. I'm at work during the downtime. I mean, it is a weekday. I only feel it if there is a problem and it is down all evening. When they start doing it at weekends, then it's worth kicking up a fuss about. If it is still a problem for you, plenty of other games to play in lieu, including many from amazing European developers such as Dontnod, Paradox, Quantic Dream, Frontier Developments, Hello, Rockstar North and so on who I'm sure will have more agreeable downtime periods. While Cryptic love to get us on here 24/7, we are allowed to play other games.
Given the structure of his sentences he is probably German.
It's either German or a Dutchman who needs to be kicked back into class.
I do wonder about this term "Europeans" though since i have never heard anyone in Europe refer to themselves as such.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
I think it's a side affect of the European Union (the one that's falling apart) initially setting itself up as a direct counter to the United States economic power and authority. Thus they identify in a group because people like to take sides on everything.

You guys should appreciate the fact that non-native speakers take the effort to learn English at all...
i do not have appreciation for it because anyone who wants to learn english is on them, it is their choice if they wish to do it. it would like saying that this person who has walked all his life is going to learn how to drive a car and everyone else does it, however that is his choice to learn and drive, it doesnt make it a special case because he can drive on the roads like anyone else...

Doesn't matter. Dutch and German people are learning English to make it easier for Americans, Britons etc. to communicate with us as well. Especially here in the Netherlands, where people will often adapt to visitors who don't know our language. Saying that someone should be kicked back into class because the grammar or structure of their sentences aren't correct shows a total lack of respect for the effort someone's taking in learning another language. It's pretty arrogant imo.
Well seeing as English is the predominately spoken language in the world (or atleast the parts of the world anybody gives a TRIBBLE about) I'm not sure he had much of a choice but to learn it.
That being said I'm learning another language myself so I'm not going to overly critique his grammar except to say that many European nations have been bilingual for a great deal of time so if everybody else can it do it correctly there's no reason why he can't.

I'm detecting a vicious circle here... English is the dominant language because Americans are too lazy to learn other languages xD Just kidding guys.
Still, by that logic we could ask you guys to learn Spanish and Chinese. Or are those the parts that no one gives a TRIBBLE about? There it is again. The arrogant attitude..
Couldn't they do what most of the other big mmo's do and have servers/whatever in key areas around the globe or are cryptic a bit tight with there money?
The language of English isn't inherently better it just happens to be the most widespread because of various historical factors which you can study yourself.
There Is no valid reason for English speakers to learn other languages en mass unless we just want to.
How come you can't run main at 2-3 in the morning american time? you actually have to run
the maint at the exact time people get home and then 2-3 hours after that.
So, you think that Cryptic Employees should have to come to work at 2 O'clock in the morning so that you don't have to wait a couple of hours during your evening.. one day a week?
Please tell me you see how that comes off as rather demanding?
The fact of the matter is this.. the game is hosted by an American Company. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, good or bad.. I'm not saying anything other then stating the fact that the company hosting is based in the United States. That means that the schedule for the game is going to run on a US time frame. It doesn't mean European Customers are less important, it doesn't mean that you're valued less, it's just how the schedules line up. Cryptic Employees do their work when they're in the office and they're in the office during regular Office Hours for the US where they are located.
Just because you have to wait until after dinner to play on Thursdays, that's no reason to get a persecution complex. No one is telling you that you're less valuable. Personally, I'm in the US and I work overnights. Thursday is my first day off of the week and when I get home from my Wednesday shift I get a little time to play before I go to sleep, but I can't. Why? because that's the Thursday Morning Maintenance. Yeah, it's a bummer, but I just either play something else, watch a little TV to relax or go right to bed and play a little longer in the afternoon. It's really not that hard to make a small adjustment, we're only talking about 2-3 hours most times, and only one day a week.
Couldn't they do what most of the other big mmo's do and have servers/whatever in key areas around the globe or are cryptic a bit tight with there money?
There are probably not enough non-US players to cover the costs of a second set of servers and hiring people in another country to do maintenance on them. So, get an extra 20,000 Europeans to play STO then ask again
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free.
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer:
God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America, my home sweet home.
God bless America, my home sweet home
Wish you Euros would get your collective heads out of a tribbles nether regions. First STO is based in California. You do understand that right? And the work day starts at 7am PST NOT 7am where ever the frak you are. So more or less Ca. is halfway around the world from you. So deal with reality of a global village parts of that village works on a schedule that is based on thier local time. So tough frak. You don't like that maintence is set to PST how about you pony up the wages for a staff to come in an do maintence on your oh so precious and important time schedule. Until then go sit in the corner until you grow up and understand that the world doesn't revolve around you any more then it revolves around any other nation.

I'm not a native speaker, but there is not much of a choice involved since in most western countries English is mandatory.
Only exception to that rule, as far as i know, is France and we can thank Charles de Gaulle for that one.
Any language spoken or written without regard to grammar, interpunction and the general language structure irks me.
Maybe i am a bit of a grammar TRIBBLE (though not as much as a friend who works as an editor) but that's just the way it is.

Don't be absurd. Of course Europeans are people too.... except the French of course.

To stay on topic, are we human too? Sure; but I think Cryptic ere sees us as wallets, with humans attached to them (in all fairness, they probably look at the rest of the world that way too).

I swear my life; to that I believe.

Do we count in Europe?
I see maint always be at afternoon to evening every week on European time and
never even once at efternoone or evening american time. Is our money less worth?
How come you can't run main at 2-3 in the morning american time? you actually have to run
the maint at the exact time people get home and then 2-3 hours after that.
some games do alternate the time they do main between evening and morning american times on
alternating weeks. why not here?
Just wondering, is our money less worth?
Yes, you count in Europe, but we also count in America. Cryptic and PWE are based in California, and they work on the standard work schedule. I find it incredibly arrogant of you to insist that they should work on a foreign schedule and aggravate the vast majority of the playerbase just to accommodate you.

Would that; the gentle crumbs of mercy,
fall upon me, like Mana from heaven.
Waiting in Lament, Cryptic as a riddle,
Fingers aching, waiting, I scribble.
Forgive me for this, such poor prose,
The noodle of doubt, troubling. It rose.
Why then, not help the poor European?
Flailing helplessly, alone, and unseen.
Word salad ails me; all around.
My own voice? I just like the sound.
Fin.
