all of a sudden my launcher started downloading a large patch out of nowhere??anybody else notice this??

This is happening to me as well. The game was fine this morning, but this evening it downloaded a small patch (around 100mb or so), but when I clicked engage, the launcher closed but did not launch the game. I tried a few more times, then gave up and restarted my computer. Now the launcher is attempting to download 11GB's of data..

Someone at Cryptic has to have created some kind of version mismatch with what we have on our computers. It also wants to download an entire new version of Tribble, even though I was just on Tribble an hour ago and there is no announced patch.

Yeah, my launcher downloaded a 100 meg patch and now it cannot start the game. Every time I click "Engage" it just closes. Doesn't even attempt to connect.

I got hit with a 600mb patch then the launcher closed when i reopened it an 11GB patch started downloading.

All I can say is I am sure glad I have this installed on multiple computers and was able to thumb drive an unspoiled version of STO before this hit everything else, because someone at Cryptic just royally effed up.

same problem here, just did a force verify and it is now downloading 8gb of data!

Well for myself the launcher downloaded a 100Mb patch then reopened and started downloading a 9.8Gb patch. Canceled and forced verified and after it had finished it began re-downloading the 9.8Gb patch.

the exact same thing happened to me. I'm now at 58% of that 11GB patch...

Finished the 11gb patch and am now back in the game. I don't see any changes so it was either a mistake or a prepatch.

11GB patch now at 61%... it will probably be finished in time when my play time for today is over.

Wish they would put an alarm buzzer at the end of big patches .. i could have a nice nap.

LOL... sadly, I do share in your cynicism... to a point.

I do think things will be fine-tuned, for sure... but, judging by what I heard from Bort on P1 (and judging by previous updates), it sounds like the major work is done, and it ain't changing. Best push it out now, while they continue to fine-tune (on an individual basis).

By and large, it does look great... but, it's gonna be really interesting once our character are reactivated. Plasmonic Leech and Inspirational Leader...

Well, I've patched the 11GB's and my game has launched and seems to be working. I suppose it must have been a pre-patch, then

Still it doesnt explain what is going the only thing i can think off is that the game has a problem with the startrek online.exe in the game folder and that mismatches with the arc/cryptic launcher.
btw i have the same issues

I copied the whole game onto a thumb drive from my laptop, which has not been connected to STO today. I then used that to overwrite the mess that they somehow created and got back into the game, no patch needed.

So, anyone downloading 9-11 GB should be really ticked off, because it is exactly the same as what you already have/had.

It isn't a patch or a pre-patch, it isn't the new Skills revamp - it's a screwup that no one seems to want to mea culpa for here.

Also, given how long it has been since S11 (October 2015), I doubt that this is going to be Season 11.5 - shouldn't we be just going right to 12 with the new skill system?

The only gaps in there over half a year are the ones with expansions (LoR in May 2013, and DR in October 2014). I don't think the skills change will be a .5 since we are already almost in March, and that's 5 months since New Dawn.

One thing I noticed once I got back into game. Every time I go to a new map it does a small patch now. Not sure whats going on

well if u patched 11gb then the game is restarting with every thing u do ingame so every map u go to is according to the recent patch u got new.
Ur whole game was reinstalled.

Maybe with the download it reactivated the option on-demand patching?
