Why it is my favorite MMO now that SWG ended:
1. Very easy to pick up where you left off.
2. Now I don't have the time to play like I used so if I miss for a while it's no big deal.
3. Good space combat and ground has gotten better.
4. I like the customization, although I should be able to put all my BoFFs in a Star Fleet uniform no matter what they are.
5. Like the above posters said I can go solo or group and the missions are not so difficult that a pug can attain the necessary items from the STF .

You must have forgotten the Dil exchange was not season 5 CRAZY high when DR came out it was much more realistic that you could actually grind the Delta pack. Now it'll cost you about 4million Dil for that same pack, not really all that realistic that most people would be able to grind bundles of this nature anymore. If you burned yourself out on the delta pack then you wont get close now.....
I've been around long enough to see the transition to the Rep system, and the birth of the DL Exchange. I ground out a TOS bundle in those dark days. These days I suppliment my main's income with my other alts when I do play them. At about 230/1 I can get a pretty good chunk out of a single T6 by running a Crystaline Event on all my characters at least. Pretty good deal IMO. Never going to run Mirror on 8 characters again though. THAT was a drag. And I am never grinding another $100+ pack again. I'll stick to smaller projects like single ship and maybe 3 packs.
Also... when I was grinding the Delta Pack, the Dyson Battlezone was one of the best places to farm DL. From what I've heard lately... not so much anymore because of campers nuking the V-Rex in 2 seconds. Those Implants give a good supply of DL.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

...i mean if they got rid of that grind to level 60 once you reach level 50. it becomes a little easier to deal with...
You must not have heard of the admiralty system. What a shame.
Or doff assignments 9/10 toons all at level 60 without even having progressed beyond Nimbus and all pre-admiralty. My main couldn't even be considered a grind, simply play the story arcs with a few patrols and hit the doff assignments in a sensible manner. Doff assignments work better if you select the ones which actually benefit you rather than slotting the first 20 that come along.
To answer the OP's question ...
It's Star Trek!!
Earning in-game currency is relatively easy without the need to open the wallet every 5 minutes.
The game appeals to a wide range of people.
We get quite a few decent give-aways and freebies from Cryptic, usually 2 or 3 times a year.
We get regular events which benefit us ... take a dil weekend for example, if you have a few vip claims and are in a fleet you can get almost double the ore you can refine on a daily basis.
If there have been major issues affecting more than a minimal number of players, the events do get extended or we get some extra goodies and not every mmo does this.
Whenever possible, the in-game characters that have appeared in series or films are voiced by the actors we all recognise.
1. There is no restriction for players unlike other mmos where they put restrictions unless a premium is paid.
2. The game play is rather fun and relax. I guess the federation philosophy plays a major role in that lol.
3. There is no sense of left-behind after a long absence. Hence, STO is probably lasted a very long n long time - Live long and prosper!
4. Although I spend 90% of time playing space STFs, I do enjoy the change of scenery of ground combat.
5. Space combat experience is best.
1. Kind of agree
2. agree
3. totally agree
4. some parts are really beautiful some crappy but generally i agree
5. It is awesome to pew pew in a ship...
Very much agree. Aside from that already mentioned (Trek, Free, Space/Ground...) I'd say it has a perfect learning curve. It keeps things difficult but I've never got fustrated and sworn blind at the screen playing it. On a lot of other MMOs I'll be playing fine then hit one particular point that for one reason or another I find crazy difficult and I can't get past it - usually because I haven't paid for the best gear or put in 50 hours of grinding. After the 50th try I give up and go play something else that is enjoyable, usually STO. Everything makes sense and it is possible to complete with different playstyles.
On a very minor issue, I like being able to change my uniform on a whim and without paying. Seems minor, and that is why I like the flexibility. You can express your character without having to make it technical or costly. A superficial feature like that should be this simple, I'm glad it is but I haven't seen anywhere else that does it.
If I were to wish for one thing that we don't have, I'd like more diversity in game mechanic. Shooting stuff is a little repetative, minigames perhaps underused and sliders don't count despite being all encompassing. That being said, they've gone a good job at breaking up that old trope of "[space] scan 5 items. kill five groups. [ground] scan 5 items. kill five groups." and that brings me to another point - STO has improve a lot. They have listened and they have made the game far better. I have faith in where they are taking it.
1 - Free to play. I can play when I can and not having to worry. If I got enough play time in that month to cover the cost of a subscription. Plus with my very limited time I can play. This helps out as well.
2 - Ground and Space battles. Most games don't even offer 2 types of ways to play their game. Even big as WoW they don't offer it.
3 - Constant updates on fixes. The game has its share, they all do. At least they work to get them fixed in a timely manner.
4 - Quicker updates on content. We get new content faster and often through the year. Some only give you a big content pack and your stuck with it for the next few years with minor updates.
5 - Solo friendly. I can do many things alone and not having to worry about groups. Since due to my limited time to play, I can't do many group actions.
6 - Customization. I can do more with my character to make them my own. Even the larger WoW your limited on looks.
