THIS thread is an excellant example of why DEV'S don't come to the forums... a nice guy simply thanks them for making an awesome new toy for us science captains and a whole fleet of trolls descend on the thread like a pack of wolves.
Good job.
TBH, I don't see any trolls here. And on topic, the console indeed looks nice on sci boats.
Phase torpedo was "nerfed" because it had the same problem as neutronic torpedo, insane damage loop with torpedo spread.
This is not quite correct. The Phase torp got a nerf because it was proc'ing on every torp in a spread and that was causing "allegedly" massive lag for the server. They changed things to stop all the whining about the lag which it was causing.
The "fix" they put through pretty much removed any use the torp has with torp spread now as it only activtes its proc on a single target. There were even multiple suggestions in the thread discussing the torp for alternatives that would not be so harsh, but nobody listened.
What was a good weapon to level the playing field for science/torp builds ended up being nerfed to death.
So that is why people are not wishing to sing the praises of anything too loudly. Nobody is trolling the thread so no need for anyone to get the panties in a twist.
In the sense that they derail and bomb his thread for no good reason.
Well, as others have said, we have previous experience when a similar "thank you devs" thread got useful piece of gear nerfed. So I can understand their scepticism.

Said nerf was to address something which had been unintended, which was breaking encounters and causing our combat calculations to cry out in anguish. I'd certainly prefer not to nerf things whenever possible, but sometimes it does need to happen, whether for balance reasons or because a programmer looks like he's about to go feral (or both, in this case ).
That said, I'm glad to hear people are finding multiple uses for the console.

Edit: GRAMMAR HARD!
Even though I don't want to agree with you here, I personally found Quantum Phase Torp an excellent boost for making drain/torp builds more accessible and viable, I appreciate you giving us a heads-up in this thread. Thanks
(And I seriously hope you don't find Chronometric Capacitor nerf-worthy.)
What console would that be?! (And how long until it gets nerfed?!)
1) Probably that one from Time and Tide episode?
2) 99% no nerf, coz it buffing polarons (worst energy type) , torpedoes (still weaker than all energy builds) and particles (embassy consoles are better)
must be a troll post. polarons are not the worst energy types. sorry but, my -80 to all subsystem proc is quite nice.
Torpedoes weaker to energy builds? Yes with compared to lazy bfaw AP builds, but torp build and still very nice and effective
"Frankly, not sure why you're on a one man nerf campaign. "
I haven't used it yet. I'll make a go of it with the upgrade weekend with at least 3/4 of the new set. I use polarons anyway and just got the Paradox so it'll be fun.
It's not the sort of thing that gets nerfed. Just a polaron version of the Undine episode tac console. Not quite as strong as a spire console but with good part gens. I was over the moon when I first saw it, thinking it was a universal. But as a science captain who flies a hybrid tac/sci style, it is a big sacrifice to slot it in one of 3 tac slots.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Yes polaron is amazing on a well specced out build... like science. :P
I like having things like weapon procs being affected by other skills it gives a nice tie-in between multiple pieces of equipment. I like the synergy because it feels realistic and encourage variety in builds vs just static boosts.
Thanks for the answer CrypticRock! I know a bunch of people are probably going to tear into you for it but I really do appreciate hearing your reasoning for things, even if i may not like it, because I realize who the actual STO experts are...
The torpedo damage bonus is just a base one : pretty irrelevant, but it doesn't matter so much on a partgens build ... the partgens bonus make it a perfect tactical console for partgens builds ... and it ain't over yet : Has anyone checked the 3pc and 4pc set powers?
Coupling it with polaron energy weapons confirms a recent trend , started with the Research Lab holding, which tries to empower both partgens and/or drain builds.

The same thing as that warguy above you. I'm not saying that this console is bad or your build is bad. I'm saying this console needs not a nerf, because it is nothing game-breaking or must-have. I'm long enough in this game so I can recognize what is good and what is less good.
And IMO yes they are the worst in PvE, because you need high flow caps, to even they start to do something. For high flow caps you are forced to sarifice some damage. Polarons with high flow caps have nice control effect, regrettably it is useful only on big targets and in current state of game is better something fast terminate instead of control it.
The thing is is you are running a exotic build chances are your beams are just there for set bonuses and/or a little flash and if that's the case all they are good for is the proc which a polar energy drain is useful in a myriad of ways.
