Advanced Engines Trait receiving additional Speed Bonus, intentional?

I am researching the current Speed Formula and things were going smoothly until I added the Advanced Engines trait. The trait is listed as granting a 25% boost to Speed and Turn Rate, which it does initially. However, I have found that over the span of 6.5 to 8 minutes, the 25% Speed boost increases slowly from 25% to 33%.
I am doing my research on Tribble, and the character I am using has respecced out of everything that affects my speed and turn; removed all traits (except for Advanced Engines), and all equipment from the ship (except for common Impulse Engines of varying Mk levels).
Is this a bug or intentional?
