I used to hangout quite a bit on Bajor from Sep 2014 thru Nov 2014. I spent a lot of time in that quadrant and Bajor was a nice change from hanging out in a space station like DS9. During that time I was running the Undine Infiltration queue a lot so it was nice to be planetside. I dabbled in the Exchange from time to time stocking up on things that I considered "cheap"; mostly Doff packs to be sold at a later point in time; still have some left actually.

The only thing lacking was a starship station where I could switch ships, but that was understandable since Bajor does not have a major space port. I suppose one of the reason why I stopped hanging out there was because the Undine Infiltration queue died. No thanks to a couple of trolls either who basically blocked the entrance down to the final boss battle with a shield.

I like going to Bajor. It's peaceful. I like the music there and sometimes I'll park my character by the fountain if I'm working on other documents and chatting to my fleetmates. There's also a foundry mission there which is just someone makign a house which was rather pretty.

Also, if I'm just wanting to go the bank or something, I'll zip to Bajor instead of DS9 as it's quieter and loads faster.

Which vendor is the one that gives 50%? I've been going to the guy on Drozana, but it is a bit out of the way.
When walking away from the Transporter room, it's the Lady Vendor at the far end of the plaza just next to the second Bank/Exchange console.
BTW: the Ferengi on Drozana, are The Worst place to go to trade in mission trash.

    I like the Bajor map.
It's one of the strongest maps we have design wise. Lots of Detail, lots to see.

We just don't have much of a reason to go there, other then here and there for a mission or two.
Myself, I enjoy the view while doing UIE. Which is still a reasonably popular queue.

Agreed. Was really disappointed to see the Cardassians painted in such a negative light while DS9 was running. Was hoping that Cryptic would give us a little more balance in perspective, but I supposed there's a whole bunch of misguided people rooting for Bajor.

they were probably painted in a negative light on DS9 because they're genocidal megalomaniacs who basically subjugated the Bajoran people and striped the planet of a lot of it's resources.

As for Bajor, I go there all the time. It's very tranquil. Wonderfully constructed map. I only wish there was more of the planet to explore.

There's some really disturbing comments in this thread. Like "I wish the Cardassian's had finished the job" or "The Bajorans should have simply accepted their situation and let the Cardassians improve their civilization by centuries in the span of a few years."

DS9 was and the Bajorans were an allegory for WW2, and the Bajorans are basically the Jewish people. The Cardassians are the occupying Germans who aren't there to improve the Bajoran's way of life, they're there to occupy their planet and suck all of the resources they can out of it, with no regard for the lives of the people that get in their way, and in fact, they killed millions, and openly used Bajoran females as "Comfort Women" which happened here on Earth too. Google the term, and you'll see just how despicable they are.

Genocide isn't something to be lauded. Ignorance of history is no excuse for when it happens again. And it can, and sadly will happen again.

Not even the spanish incquisition would go to bajor and they would always show up unexpectidly in the places you wouldnt expect them, but bajor was the exception.

The Cardassian military was painted like that. The government was painted like that. But, like alot of Trek enemies, those are the ones we encountered the most, so that's what you think the species is like. But when they encountered the actual civillians, they were as varied and decent as any other species. For example, Garak's nanny. Those two scientists from the comm relay through the wormhole episode (the third was obsidian order, so doesnt count).

Not according to any of the interviews with the producers/writers I ever read/saw.

That's funny, because here's two direct quotes from the producers:

Rick Berman compared the Bajorans to:
"the Palestinians, the Jews in the 1940s, the boat people from Haiti — unfortunately, the homeless and terrorism are problems [of every age]."

    Ronald D. Moore
"depending on the episode, you could also call Bajor Israel, or Iran, or even America and the Cardassians could be Germans, or Russians or several other examples…"

I would have loved it during DS9 if the Bajorans tried to rebel against the Dominion while they were there. The Dominion are so ruthless that they would have made the Bajorans beg for only the Cardassians to oppress them.

The producers/writers saying the Bajorans could be likened to any oppressed people is a far-stretch from 'Bajorans were an allegory for WW2, and the Bajorans are basically the Jewish people.'

That's true. The Bajorans fill the "generic" role of an occupied people and Cardassians are "generic" villian opressors. The Cardassians are without any doubt meant to be villians and what they do is terrible, but it's too far fetched to make definite RL comparisons. At least one should not argue on that basis because it only leads to TRIBBLE comparisons and heated debates - which of course is the perfect bait for individuals with a liking in "teasing" certain other individuals pig-3.gif

It is a really nice map, but there is very little reason to go there.

It has some useful consoles, mail, bank, etc, but they aren't centralized.

Maybe if there was some mini mission, perhaps a daily that took place on the streets of Bajor, people would visit it more often. Something to look forward to in a Gamma Quadrant expansion?

Oh wait... Leeta... Maybe something connected to her, it'll fit in with the current season.

In some ways yes, in others no. The Founders are less sadistic than people like Dukat. So they wouldn't do some of what the Cardassians did.

Neither of those are saying that there is a singular one to one correlation as you had suggested.

Re-read my original post. I never said it was a "singular one to one" correlation. I said it was an "allegory" for WW2, and the Bajoran's are basically the Jewish people.

I posted those quotes because it was said that the producers never said that it was allegorical to WW2...

producers statements: "...Jew's in the 1940's...", "...the Cardassians could be the Germans..."

I was defending my statement with facts.

Nevermind the other fact that anyone who knows history and watched DS9 could see it in many of the episodes dealing with the Occupation of Bajor.

Sorry, I'm talking about a fictional show with fictional people in a fictional universe. I can hate the Bajorans and cheer on the Cardassians all I want. Whether or not it was intended to be an allegory (poor allegory, at that) for real-life events is irrelevant to me, because what I see on TV is not real. The Bajorans should have been honored to serve as a vassal world to the Cardassians.

This is true. If someone wants to play as an Imperial in a star wars game, that doesn't mean that person is a n@z! in real life. ST and SW are fictional, and if someone takes them so seriously that they get offended when someone else says something negative about a fictional species, then they need some fresh air.
