Now, I have not seen the new 007 movie, SPECTRE, and in doing so, would kindly request any references to it to be naturally warned.
That being said, this discussion obviously draws to the fact that I have been fairly unattentive about the movie Casino Royale and other pieces of continuity in the overall plot of the James Bond universe. Now, to the point: It was only recently that I discovered that the movie Casino Royale and the entire Craig era in fact, was an intended reboot of the universe. I, like many of us here who are original universal Trekkies, positively abhor the very notion of a reboot, especially to a franchise like 007 that has gone on so long in a perfect elegance. Watching it (it was several years ago that I first watched Casino Royale, until I revisited it recently) the original time, seeing M as usual (Judi Dench) paying little mind to what much of those soft spoken Brits expanded and, of course, it was no surprise to my younger, less attentive self to see James Bond in a new face. Watching Skyfall, thinking there was no intended difference, gave the movie all the more life! I mean, here is the immortal James Bond, some how, the greatest evader of death ever, now having to look his mysterious past right in the face and look into the bleakness of destruction at the hands of his employer's former employee. And then the beauty of Skyfall was getting new characters to fill old shoes (Moneypenny, Q, and Malory (I could have sworn Eve implied that the other Moneypenny from past films was merely a relative or aunt)). They focused so much on James Bond's age, and, according to this alteration in the timeline, he was only supposed to be 44. But imagine it from the beginning, back to when he first walked up on that beach in Dr. No. There's only supposed to be one James Bond! And there should never be multiple universes in something like this... it's just unsavory. That's why I was so excited to see that Spectre was in fact going to include Blofeld, because, being aside from my favorite villain in the franchise, he was Bond's greatest foe ever. His plot line never even got the just, satisfactory end it deserved, he was killed off at the beginning of the movie in a despicable attempt to tie up lose ends. He deserved better than being thrown done a smoke pipe. I just figured, seeing the new Blofeld, that he would in fact be the true Blofeld, and the one who died a body double.
I simply view the reboot as more of a thematic alteration rather than a true reset button. So what I'm saying is: can't we still view James Bond as one person? Can't we still see the James Bond universe as one?

Either it's been rebooted a minimum of five times already (major tonal differences among Bonds, for one thing), or one fan theory is right and James Bond is not a man, but a title given to the agency's best covert assassin.
I honestly don't know.

The Daniel Craig ones seem to be more connected with each other than the previous movies.

"This never happened to the other fellow..."
Unfortunately the theory seems to be explicitly overruled in the Craig films. Casino Royale has a traitorous station chief address him as Bond before he was made a double-0 agent, and then of course there's the family estate in Skyfall.

Yeah, good point about the Daniel Craig ones. they actually seem to have a progression of events in them unlike the previous films.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

In Bond's obituary in one of the novels, his family is noted by name. There is only one James Bond, and he has been portrayed by numerous actors. Lee Tamahori did direct Die Another Day as if 'James Bond' was an identity assumed by multiple agents, but frankly, the film was abysmal, so I disregard anything he says or did on the subject, not least, because it is completely at odds with the rest of the Bond mythos...
My favorite Bond was Timothy Dalton (Living Daylights is still my favorite of the movies) but I felt that Pierce Brosnan played Bond even closer to Fleming's writing. Daniel Craig portrayed Bond exactly as written, but he never fitted Fleming's written description of Bond... Other than the fourth wall breaking quip, I thought George Lazenby did a good job, I just think that the world wasn't quite ready for a character to be portrayed by more than one actor.
With regards Spectre, people who's opinions on films I value have given it very negative reviews, and said it's not even worth watching...
