A Nebula should really be Intel based as it's supposed to be a sort of intel/interference/snooper ship if you see what it does in the shows. We only really see it in action as part of a web designed to catch cloaked ships so I think it fits perfectly that it'd be intel oriented.
You obviously missed it's participation in First Contact and the Dominion War...
Speaking of which, the Nebula Class skin needs a HUGE overhaul... Seriously, compared to it's Galaxy Class counterpart the skin on the nacelle's, engineering and saucer section in general on the Nebula look so low poly and outdated. It has litteraly no starfleet markings, the registry and ship name is also quite pixelated for some reason. It should be given the same markings as on the Galaxy Class. Starfleet markings, caution strips near the phaser arrays.. Yellow markings near the shuttlebay etc.
Agreed. The Nova class needs the same treatment, and I remain surprised that the used the, frankly rather tired, model for the Rhode Island in the Feature Episodes that Garret Wang lent his voice to.
The "Visual Overhauls" need to be applied to the all the Canon ships or those transitioning to T6, not just the Fed ones. To date, NONE of the ships outside the Starfleet ships have gotten such a treatment, to include even the JHAS.

Etc.
Not only do the Non-Fed factions get even fewer ships, the ships get even less attention than the Fed ones.

Yeah true enough, but in those instances pretty much every ship in canon was seem fighting, regardless of what it's primary role was meant to be.
According to Memory Alpha it's meant to be an exploration and patrol vessel, so i'd see that as heavily intel based. Basically trying not to get noticed whilst gathering intel but with enough fight in it to stand it's ground.
Don't forget the USS T'Kumbra, which was a frontline ship against the Dominion

Don't get me wrong, I'm with you. I'd rather see an Intel seat on a T6 nebula than anything else. I was just highlighting the fact that the Nebula is capable of more than you seemed to indicate. That's all.

I just took a peek in the Eaglemoss Star Ship collection issue about the Nebula, providing some behind the scenes info. It's main purpose was indeed exploration and research, patrol and transportation but they were also very capable in combat as they had some of the Galaxy classes firepower plus the mission pod. But still the intel thing makes most sense. It seems that whn Okuda et al. redesigned the ship they changed the hull pattern to soemthing that with some fantasy could be interpreted as a "digital camouflage" pattern. Might be just coincidence, but it's there

In the case of the Bonchune, the Captain was following orders. Furthermore, she wasn't destroyed by the Prometheus attack and was seen again, amongst the ships escorting Voyager back toward Earth, in 'Endgame'.
The Bonchune was lucky then, cause the Prometheus would have been more than capable. I guess them green bloods were more concerned with getting the ship back to the Tal Shiar, else it would have been bye bye to the Bonchune and her crew.
It was the USS Honshu that was destroyed in 'Waltz' by "Cardassian Destroyers" (they were not identified beyond that). The USS Farragut was destroyed quite a bit before 'Waltz', by the Klingons whilst attempting to rescue colonists on Ajilon Prime subsequent to the Klingons withdrawal from the Khitomer Accords.
Your knowledge surpasses mine.
As per Cardassian Destroyers, the Galor have been labeled as such in the past (in addiction warships and cruisers). That, and the only other ships the Cardassian were deploying in the war was the Hideki, and I doubt a Nebula Class succumbed to a bunch of Hideki Attack ships, so it was most likely them Galors.

Yeah it does look that way. When you consider the STO model doesn't even have impulse exhaust ports it looks like it's trying to be stealthy before the real intel ships existed.
My guess is that it's whole sensor sweep & tachyon grid thing was meant to show it as some sort of AWAC type ship but with enough of a combat side to her that she could be front line if needed. I'd say she should primarily be trying to detect the enemy but once she spots them it goes for all out control and disruption tactics. That certainly seems to be what the ship in STO is all about anyway, it's science heavy and most science abilities are about disrupting the enemy. In fact i'd say she is the "perfect" offensive science ship from canon.
Although I really want Romulan science ship, I do not buy T6 Ha'nom. IMO she is oversized ang ugly.
With terran reputation , the option opening to play sci torp boat, and this ship do not fit to this build.
To OP, it looks you like Nebula, so be it and stay with that desire. Feds have a few sci ships. As Geko said, no science ships for KDF, at least kdf players have B'rel.
Nebula should be command, we have plenty of Intel science ships I want some variety!
She would make an excellant tank or torpedo boat with command spec.
I'm of a different frame of mind.
Command BOFF abilities do nothing for Science Vessels though. Pilot BOFF abilities are the same. Intel, however, has very strong abilities to supplement a Science Vessel's performance. The 2 that come immediately to mind?
Override Subsystem Safeties - Power surge AND go way over the Power Level Caps. Pop it before you go into your best series of Science abilities.
Ionic Turbulence - An AOE with a very, very heavy resist debuff.
Concentrate Firepower is the only remotely useful thing out of Command BOFF abilities. It has some use for a true torpedo boat that emphasizes that, but make no mistake, the Nebula would never be the prime candidate for it. A 2 TAC Console ship with very limited Tactical BOFF options, even for a supposed T6 version, on a Science Vessel which tend to use as many Console Slots for PartGens/FlowCaps/Sci Skill Bonuses, etc., isn't exactly a great platform for it. The torpedoes are more of a forced synergy thing.
The Dauntless or some other LtCmdr TAC Science Vessel with the 4 TAC & 5 SCI Consoles would have been a stronger candidate for Command Spec access.
I always thought of the relationship between the Galaxy and Nebula was that of the Constitution and Miranda. You can def see/make the comparisons between the 4 models. The Galaxy was the Heavy Cruiser and the Nebula the Destroyer. Although her size would dictate more Cruiser than Destroyer. She'd be the more compact, cheaper and more numerous ship than the Galaxy.
Make the T6 KDF Science ship look like a high resolution version of the Gorn Tuatara, and I'll buy it and its Fleet version. Make the Starfleet version look like it rolled out of the same Vulcan shipyards as the D'Kyr, and I'll buy the bundle.
I could aslso go with a Tier six deep space science vessel, which would fit more of the quick mobile escort type science feel (i personally prefer this desgn over the Intrepid type design), while the Nebula/advanced research to me is more of the cruiser type, and the Research science vessel or Olympic/Hope/Horizon fill an interesting area of a medium ground science ship (this has a really interesting design though not for everyone). An i would not even mind if they took aspects from all three of these )advanced research, deep space, an research science class vessels) an then developed a new tier six science ship that might be a evolution from these merging into a new class, while this would also give those that like each of these designs the ability to pilot them.

You know i'd almost completely forgotten those ships even existed!
The Deep Space, Research (and the Recon - Luna class) science vessels are pretty much the least used fed ships I'd say. I literally never see an Olympic class, even at lower tiers and the other two are no less uncommon.
To combine aspects of all three into something that will sell better could be a possibility.

That may be an idea I could draw up Vulcan and Gorn scis for. I'll still have to insist on a proper home for my yet-to-be-rolled Klingon sci, but If the Klingons get theirs, I don't mind getting both packs.

I know what you mean, i actually feel kinda bad as they have really unique styles to them that do feel kinda in a middle ground of the older starfleet designs an the newer ones they are releasing. An i agree i think that a ship that combines design elements from these three would sell pretty well, just as so people have the option to fly a science ship that has a older look in a slightly newer design. THough also since they seem to not like making fully science ships so a deisgn that combines three would give more options for them lookwise waiting for the next release. I still think they to look into good ways of maing science ships more appealing without making them just a escort in a science ship's skin.

Unfortunately, that ship (I believe the Farragut) was destroyed by a couple of Galors.

Well Captain Soval(?) didn't know what a human looked like, so it's quite possible he was shooting at the wrong enemy during the war.
