I had no room for the Rezreth or free dry dock slot and not enough dilithium to get another ship slot or extra dry dock slots and had to get rid of a ship to make room for the Rezreth.
Would it be so hard to have future event ships come with a free ship slot? With Admirtaly now being a thing, it was difficult to pick a ship to get rid to make room for another.
you do realize you just made the text-book case for why they sell ship slots in the Z-store right? Plus as others have said there is no need for even MORE ship slots because you are a pixel hoarder... You can dismiss/reclaim ships you own from events or z-store and have some dry dock option as well.
Just buy it it from the store with $. I would forget the Dil - Zen exchange.
That 500 zen needed will be at 264 for Dil. For a grand total of 132000 Dil. This is you using the over inflated exchange route. With this, just cheaper to buy them with $.

OP make a KDF Alt level it to get to doffing then just grab contraband (Marauding misions) constantly. move the contraband around to your different characters and run the turn in contraband Doff mission. You will get 2000 dil per character. I have 16 character that times 2 is 32000 dilithium every 4 hours. For just a few minutes of doffing. Once its refined use the dilithium exchange, to combine it onto one character. Honestly it takes me longer to run the KDF missions than it does to turn it in. An average run on one KDF I get about 16 Contraband, and I don't even know the best missions to pick either.
Most of us don't have that kind of characters. So Dil is a lot harder to come by for many. Plus not many has time to keep going back to the main hubs to keep turning it in. And still get their other work done. Since many places don't offer a turn in. The contraband isn't a good turn in as most thinks. Also the Marauding isn't that well either. Unless your at DS9 area. My KDF found none during his tour of duty in the Delta to get. So there went months of not doing it.

in fact it would be hard, cryptic would miss out on potential money on ship slots. regardless what i may think, they wont give free slots if they can nickle and dime first.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Ok, I have a newsflash for people who think that it is easy to get new ships slots. First and foremost, they cost 500 zen and that's only 2 of them. I wouldn't complain if one slot cost about 100 or max. 200 zen and if there is an option to get only one instead of two slots. And to make things worse, 1 zen on exchange currently costs over 265 dilithium which is painfully expensive. That's 132500 dilithium for 2 freaking ships slots (a lot of grind in other words). Can't you understand that it is a way too much for a such small thing? Well I do, and therefore I support the OP on this matter. Well, maybe not for a free (event) ships, but most certainly for a C-store ships as they are not free, and especially not cheap.

so don't buy any extra ship slots or dry dock slots there is really no need.
as a free to play player you get a total of 10 slots + 1 for your shuttle, you also get 5 dry dock slots, assuming you will always keep your shuttle this gives you 15 ship capacity to play with.
assuming you wish to keep the 4 free ships you get while levelling you still have 11 dry dock and ship slots at your disposal.
as all c-store and event ships can be dismissed and reclaimed as often as you wish you have plenty of spaces for any non reclaimable extra ships you might need.
I think this is more then enough for a FTP player who doesn't want to pay or grind for extra slots.
of course if you want to pay or grind away for lockbox ships, lobi ships, and so on that are not reclaimable you should be equally prepared to pay or grind for extra ship slots or dry dock slots also.
I will also remind you how you would feel cheated if you eventually reached the ship slot cap and never got your free slot when you bought your next c-store ship.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
They have given us Free Ship Slots in the past a few times, usually with the release of a new System mechanic or some such thing.
With the Reclaim ability for C-Store and Event Ships, you really only need space for Fleet, Lobi, and Lockbox Ships. As pointed out, use your five (or ten) Drydock slots to store others.
Yes, however, it would be great if they instituted a Character Unlock Reclaim for Lobi, Lockbox, or Fleet Ships that you own and Dismiss.

Well you can also look at it as 132,500 Dilithium for FIVE Drydock Slots.

This situation is beginning to remind me of what used to happen years ago on the Oprah Winfrey Show. People used to go on Oprah to win high end luxury stuff (like fancy cars), then whined about the taxes they had to pay on the freebies afterwards.
Sorry, but that's life. There's no such thing as a free lunch, not in video games or in real life. If you win a new car, you have to pay taxes on it. If you win a luxury bike, you have to spend well over $60 to invest in a heavy duty lock instead of a B grade $10 lock and chain. If you win a free iPad, you have to purchase a sturdy case to carry it around in. If you win a free house, you have to pay the thousands of dollar yearly in utility costs, as well as taxes and repairs.
Rather than whine and complain about not getting a free ship slot, take this lesson to heart and apply it to future situations so you're able to handle similar situations better when you're finally out in the world.

There are too many people that want to not spend one dime on this game. You can do it but either you need to grind or cough up some cash. Just be thankful this is not a Console Game where you would have to spend $40 - $60 on the Disc.

Choices, choices:
a) discharge reclaimable ships
b) grind for dil
c) skip one latte and buy with cash monies
d) whine and cry about the unfairness of life

oh noes! I have to spend FREE time to get a CASH item for FREE.... the HORRORS
Unfortunately I don't see them giving away free slots. We get 3 event ships a year, so they would be essentially giving away 3 free ship slots a year.
Why do I say 3?
Anniversary event
Summer event
Winter event
But wait, there's more! Cryptic also often gives away a couple of T5 ships every year as well. (There's the summer giveaway and one around the anniversary, I think.) So, even if they gave away slots for the event ships, you'd still run out of space, even if you ditch the levelling ships they give away.
Well... it is a way for Cryptic to incentivize people into spending a bit of money to buy more ship slots and dry dock slots (a new concept to me since I recently started playing STO again).
STO is a F2P game, but they do need money to pay the bills and create new content.
once you resign yourself to the fact that you cant have every ship you own always instantly at your beck and call and dismiss the ships you can reclaim and probably haven't used in ages anyway you will soon find you have all the spaces you need.
