Despite all the griping in the forums, STO really is one of the best MMOs for F2P. Subscribe for 1 month for the unlocks and you can fly free (for grind) event ships without spending another dime.
That, plus if you're a Trek fan then you must play this game. Period. (eg. if you're not playing then you're not a trek fan lol...)
Why is that ? Because it so closely follows the exploration, mystery, deep thinking of the series of Star Trek... ? Did you mean JJ trek...that would make sense.....
Nooooooooooooooooooope...........
But because no other game lets you play this sucker. Unless you consider Trexels a game lol...

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I think it's funny that at least two "best of" articles this week mention STO
One about gaming podcasts
And the other about F2P games themselves
Priority One, though a great podcast, is NOT the "only" Star Trek Online podcast, even if they market themselves as "The Premiere Star Trek Online Podcast." There have been ones doing it longer and there are some that do it better. P1 is just marketed better and seems to have an unusual ease of access to dev interviews when other 'casts barely get approval for one.
With this second article, though, there are conflicting reports of the actual article itself.... Some people have been saying there were mentions of voting on the games in question and others say the article, for them, reads as a giant sledgehammer of "this is just my opinion, again, just my opinion." I don't know and can't say that is indeed the case, but the first two paragraphs alone feel like a last minute addition stemming from the thought, "I REALLY need to hammer home that this is my feelings and opinion because i don't have any proof to back up any claims I may make."
We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.
By a strange coincidence, the day before this chart, I saw the Massively top 10 healthiest MMOs chart and STO wasn't even there. It makes sense : a great f2p model, where players can literally grind anything they need, but lots of work to do to undo the Delta Rising fiasco.
LMAO! What a perfect example of first world PC culture BS. I try to get a simple, direct answer, and you claim I'm "beating" him. Our ancestors would be so proud of the spineless jellyfish we've become. Thanks for the laugh

You're not familiar with the "Have you stopped beating your Wife" question yet?
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Well, I messaged the guy who wrote the article on twitter to try to clarify how he intended the list to be read, and for some reason he will *not* give me a straight answer:
I can't believe he actually said he was giving me a simple answer.
"Yes and no"
"reading it that way isn't wrong"
"it's a valid reading of what I wrote either way"
That's *not* simple answer, that is dodging the question and spin. I'm not sure what he is afraid of or why he can't give a direct answer to a simple question, but he obviously isn't going to, so I give up.
I think you have your answer, in not so many words...
Kind of put's the entire article into doubt.
Besides, the list is meaningless with SWTOR on it, as that game is terribad for f2p.
While yes you can play that game f2p, you are so restricted in what you can do/play, it feels like someone chopped off your hands and feet and expecting you to do well...
I have to agree. SWTOR? Honestly? And I didn't know GW2 was f2p. That's news to me.
This is a weird list to say the least, but hey, nice to see STO on there as it's rare to see STO being recognized on a majority of these types of lists.
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.

GW2 went F2P about a month ago or so, got A LOT of people angry, because so many people had bought it and are now screaming bloody murder, even though the F2P are still somewhat limited as to what they can do unless they buy the new xpac which comes with all the stuff you would get had you bought the game originally.
Also, Swtor is one of the biggest MMOs out there, whether you like how they do things or not, they have A LOT of players, though they seem to REALLY want to get people angry with their latest cash grab.

Haven't you heard? That question assumes someone has a wife, meaning it is now discrimination against people who aren't married, or a marriage where there is no "wife"(figure it out). You have violated the PC culture and are sentenced to 5 years of ignominy!

Fair enough, but it does put into serious question about what makes this list and what doesn't. SWTOR is on there only because it's popular, but people are getting angry? NWN isn't popular but it does make a lot of people angry. GW2 has a lot of angry people....maybe it's the best F2P list of making people angry?

Interesting, that extra variation I didn't know about.
But I figure maybe you do understand the fallacy associated with the question. Admittedly, however, in this context, I was using a variation of the common example for the "Loaded Question" fallacy to make a different point - not all questions have a straight yes or no answer.

so in other words... the question that Nagus asked of the article writer was not a question that the article writer could answer with a simple yes or no. Thus he did not, and Nagus gets frustrated and angry over it.

Oh I agree that not all questions have a simple yes or no answer, but that has nothing to do with the fact that mine did. You see, choosing not to give a simple answer is *not* the same thing as being unable to do so. Either the writer of the article intended the order of the list to mean something, or he didn't. Either way, it's fine. I wasn't asking so I could then turn around and argue with his answer. I just wanted to know which it was...but for some reason he's afraid to answer. Go figure.

As a closed beta tester and big fan of GW2, I never really got the problem with making the old level's f2p.
We had years of playing with no subscription, so we got our money's worth.
Granted, you are restricted in some way's much like SWTOR is, but in no where near as hamstrung.
Much of GW2's restrictions are to stop making multiple account's for spamming/gold farming.
I don't own the Heart of Thorns expansion, yet, but I will after 6 months.
Now, the first, Most Classic, is a given - it's Star Trek. The third, Best Community, well guys, it's us, it goes without saying really, most of us are a lovely bunch. But the second, Best Innovation, what? Shouldn't that imply that the game is changing for the better, when in actual fact it just (re)releases the same old stuff with a different coat of paint? When was the last time we had something new? Before anyone shouts Admiralty System, let me stop you right there; that's just a repainted Duty Officer system. That's not new.
Once again Champions online is ignored lol. Guess having THE best customization in any MMO doesn't quite cut it.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I love Champs. It's actually the game I've played the most over the last couple of months. But the sad fact is, they aren't putting out new content on a regular basis. So while the character creator is definitely great, you shouldn't be surprised they aren't making any "best MMO" lists without regular new content updates. That's not a matter of Massively "ignoring" Champs, it's a matter of Cryptic/PW's business priorities.

I have no idea how "Innovation" is measured by people here, but the Admirality system might accomplish something very similar to the Duty Officer system, but it does so different in many ways. If there is no innovation in there, I'd say that there hasn't been an innovation in FPS since the original Doom and no innovation in RTS since Dune 2000. (Which some people would probably agree with.)

Yeah, the event mechanic in Admiralty is something that simply doesn't exist at all in Doffing. and of course success is calculated completely differently.

Probably right, only reason I've stopped playing CO much lately is lack of content finally has me burnt out after 5 years of playing it.

If there is no innovation in there, I'd say that there hasn't been an innovation in FPS since the original Doom and no innovation in RTS since Dune 2000. (Which some people would probably agree with.)
My character Tsin'xing
Probably right, only reason I've stopped playing CO much lately is lack of content finally has me burnt out after 5 years of playing it.
