Snide, sarky one-liner which contributes nothing to the discussion, interesting concept. And no wonder you have 7K+ postcount.
It wasn't one line. It was two
Players shocked that WARSHIPS can POSSIBLY DO HARM to them is what greatly amuses me. Nevermind that we can have a dozen or so ships shooting at us at any given time.
So yes, I'm laughing at the people that can't deal with something that could be a danger in combat. Just like the many people on these boards that were absolutely fuming when Tachyon Beam and shield strip got boosted. Really.
How dare the enemy try to fight back! Cryptic, plz nerf!
ANOTHER Edit: I can get by these stupid Terran Empire attacks in a thinly shielded, paper hulled Bird of Prey. I'm pretty damn sure you guys in your Cruisers and High Aux Science Vessels can do better.
Enemies being able to kill us is one thing, enemies being able to insta-jib player(s) is the reason for this thread!!!

Those NPC torp spreads are very nasty. It's especially bad with those science ships stripping off your shields at the same time. Tractor beam repulsors from the Command Cruisers are another one that'll kill ya quick.

no wonder why there is some other "players" wanting more and MORE Challenges when we ask for toning down. if i am a lead dev for STO, i would make "Hardcore" selection for those wanting hardmode episodes/missions copies version of classic episodes, so other players want to play causal normal episodes and missions without having get too much frustrations.
games were meant to be fun and entertaining as long there is decent storylines stay the same.
original Guild Wars has that right, once you complete that story arc, and defeat end-game boss, and you unlock hardmode for replay.
okay, to resist terran's tactics, you need to set up countermoves, and save the "break-away speed" that last 6 seconds to get away from hostile situations, fast enough to get away and use shockwave field that can destroy torps and shuttles that get too close, and to target incoming torps.
first rule, never ever get too close to hostile ship/s that may use tractor beam on you, stay within 8-9 range if you are alone or too far away from a group, but can get closer if you have other players near you.

Or you can use Polarize Hull, Brace for Impact, Rock and Roll, Subspace Field Modulator and cycle Tactical Teams to maximize your shield up time to name a few examples of how to counter Terran torp spreads/TBRs. If you have a Vesta the Multidimensional Graviton Shield is awesomely fun to use against them too.
There are a number of other more expensive options in traits too if you have the EC/Zen for them.
Well, at least I have no problem with NPCs being dangerous. I just find the discrepancy curious. Mop torp spreads seem to not be stopped by shields abut in contrary strip your shields away in no time while player torp spreads or torp attacks don't do anything while shield HP gets increased all the time for NPCs. It's just so disappointing.

Sooo, im confused. I've always found Torpedo Spread to be useless, from players or NPCs. I've never had a torpedo spread do more than take my shields down, but I would just pop Sci Team and be right back in the fight.

While BFI & PH, R&R, Aux2Sif are all good suggestions, it's not always easy to time them when a Torpedo spread can already calculate it's dmg the moment it is launched.
In other words, you can see it coming, activate DR hull buffs, but they are completely not any good when the game has already decided the dmg amount, at the moment it was launched!!!
This isn't always the case though, as the game at times decides at launch, while other times at impact.

The terrans are no different, and each and every torpedo hit for more than base dmg, is never listed as a critical but does dmg equal to it.
So, even though shield kinetic resistance, and/or shield DR does apply, it's kind of pointless to have them when the dmg being inflicted, can still overwhelm a shield facing from a single torpedo or spread.
It's like, why give enemies energy weapons, when they can simply erradicate shield facings using torpedoes alone!!!
In other words, you can see it coming, activate DR hull buffs, but they are completely not any good when the game has already decided the dmg amount, at the moment it was launched!!!
This isn't always the case though, as the game at times decides at launch, while other times at impact.
This is true and quite annoying. I haven't really tested against the Terrans, but during my time playing against them, it doesn't seem like their torp damage is calculated on launch since I am usually able to survive the ones I spot. With 28.5k shields per facing, my ship is generally built to survive so long as my shields are up though, and I take care to keep it up as much as possible.

Like many have mentioned, it doesn't always occur, and in what instances I myself have experienced it, seems like they snooker you when you keep getting the upperhand on them, a low blow so to speak.
Also, not everyone runs around with such huge shield points, as some ships have pretty weak shield mods, and not mkxiv shield arrays + shield hp consoles to boot.
Shield mod being one of the biggest factors, as some of my ships no matter how much shield hp boosting gear is thrown on, still remains squishy @ 12k-14k due to weak shield mods on even a tier6 fleet ship no less!

Yeah that's why I realized I had to throw that number in here as a disclaimer. That's on my main ship (Fleet Pathfinder) so it does get a pretty good shield mod.
Went into CPA with my parser on to see how hard those Terran torps are actually hitting my team (PUG). Looking at the max hits recorded:
Normal torp shots are hitting anywhere from 2.5-8k
Torp spreads (Quantum) range from 20-35k
Emission Seeking Quantum Torps were hitting 25-39k
Point defence system hit for 40k (against someone's pet)
Some unlucky pet got hit for 100k from an emissions torpedo explosion
There was a 57k hit I found on SCM's tables (trying to find it in CLR to see what it was) but almost all of it was eaten by that person's shield (only 700 damage on hull) It was fired by an escort... probably what is one-shotting some people.
I have to note that while some of these numbers seem high (like that 39k hit on someone), most of the damage is done on shields (70-80%). That means the actual damage done to hull is quite low (provided you had shields on). The team was rather good with only 2 deaths total (probably that 39k hit was one).
