I think we need some definite results from the DOff mission "Discover Q's True Intentions" before we jump to any further conclusions.

If it was JUST that the land was sacred to the snowmen, it doesn't matter what the snowmen do, if they don't own the land, the gingerbreads would be entitled to it. Anything being "sacred" to Group X should have zero effect on Group Y, and it would be wrong for Group X to take action against Group Y for not observing that "sacred" status, period.

But the only important thing here is that the snowmen have already claimed ownership to the land in which the gingerbreads build their home on. The only thing we have to look at is ownership, not sacredness in any way.

Yep, yet another situation where the Alliance jumped in on the side of the cuter folks without bothering to actually study who was in the wrong. Boycotting the queue for premature Prime Directive violation in the first degree.
Exactly. That is, at least until we find out that those gingerbreads and snowmen are actually mere extensions of Q, rather than actual societies that Q had created. But that might be a li'l too hard toconfirm from an omnipotent being.

So Q Junior not living up to his father's shenanigans in your eyes then?

@starswordc: Personally, I'm of the mind that it's an intentional parody of the Kobali BZ, where the devs are intentionally lampshading the controversial situation they created in Delta Rising. I'm not so sure that this is incompetence...I think it's very much on purpose, tongue-in-cheek on the devs' part. In-universe, it's probably Q Junior being a purposeful troll.

There is one other thing about Q's creations I've never been sure of, and this goes both for the Winter Wonderland and for things in the show. I have never been entirely convinced that the realities he seems to create are really...real. Riker's BEEN a Q, and he called it an illusion. I've got a distinct impression that their supposed omnipotence may not be as much as it appears to be (though there are some demonstrations of power--particularly those that leave a lasting mark in true reality, that I consider genuine, such as Q Who and certain incidents in True Q). But going back to the Winter Wonderland, I am not so sure that Q is not causing a collective hallucination for our captains as opposed to actually creating anything. Which if true means that neither the gingerbread people nor the snowmen are (in universe) actual beings and no actual damage is being done other than Q intentionally trolling our captains and maybe intentionally taking a veiled shot at them for their actions in the Delta Quadrant.

You know...if he's doing the latter...taking a veiled shot at our captains (and the Alliance) for what they've done, it might actually give his actions a purpose. Just as if I were in universe, I'd be wondering if he didn't make the Feds and Klinks play together with the intention of pulling a "Silent Night" moment and making them re-evaluate each other a bit, knowing that the war with the Iconians might be coming. (Yeah, I dunno, this is just me spinning a yarn here...I won't go any further here. I may just have to take it to the ULC... ;) )

BTW, I heard the part where the gingerbread say they built in in snowman territory, but I haven't heard the line where someone claims it's sacred territory. Could you tell me when exactly that part is said?

    I don't think it's a real-life political commentary...that does seem like a bit much.

However I do think it is a parody of in-game stuff, specifically the Kobali-Vaadwaur fight, which is also a situation where both parties are wrong. Q's made fun of enough other things between the Winter and Anniversary events to make me think it would be in character, in universe, for him to take that kind of shot at our captains here too.

There was one other thing, BTW, that I noticed in my latest run: those snowmen are on a REALLY fast respawn timer, one of the fastest I've seen anywhere in game. Guess who the only enemy is who matches that respawn speed on the ground? The Vaadwaur in the Kobali BZ.

Who says it's not actually a pocket universe Q created instead of a hallucination? does it even matter?

I just treat it as a holodeck program and ignore the Q part entirely lol.

Your Neelix hate is even more irrational than the Klingon hate I must say.

Actually, my hatred of Neelix is quite rational. Leaving aside every piece of unutterable stupidity he committed in an unutterably stupid show, not to mention the several crew members he got killed through his incompetence, I am a senior command-level officer. It is not my job to get the Talaxians' work schedules sorted out, nor to go hunting for spices misplaced halfway across the station because the head chef couldn't organize the numbers 1 through 5 if his life depended on it. That's Neelix's job since he's supposedly the one in charge of these people, and I don't like being used as an excuse to avoid doing one's job.

There are similarities to the Kobali-Vaadwaur war and the confectionery conflict, but I don't get the same negative feeling from it. Mostly because I've always seen the snowmen as constructs, not people. Things Q put in there to TRIBBLE with us. And its kinda hard to see the animated cookies as people either.

They are Q's creations. They fight because Q made them that way. We get involved in their fight because Q pays us to. And we're on the side of the cookies because they're the ones Q didn't set to attack us on sight.

Well you could blame the ones actually responsible, the monkeys behind the typewriters. Neelix is an adorable character even if he's a pain sometimes.

    Remember we're still on trial...

Will we throw aside our morals and much touted beliefs simply for a few bobbles? You bet we will! Let the slaughter commence!

Q is delighting in our ineptitude. Jean Luc where for art thou?? :'(
Also... it's Q jr. Sr. was the one who did the trial thing.

But who is to say Q Sr ist having Q Jr tempt us with certain things to either prove our guilt or innocence

Over thinking this? Oh, not this Community, not at all.

Perhaps this is a job for Ambassador S'taass to mediate. I just realized today while picking up some Assignments from the Security guy in the Great Hall and seeing his conversational 'balloons', that he is STO's Don Vito Corleone.

Go check it out. He asks if the NPC talking to him is asking for a favor. He says he'd be happy to help and that in the future that NPC will be happy to do a favor for him.

S'taass can make the Gingerbread people and Snowmen an offer they can't refuse.
