Looking for recommended Video card

I'm currently using a Radeon X1600 Series Video card, in a dell Optiplex 755. Has a 500Gb HDD swapped in, and 5Gb RAM, running Win 7 Ultimate.
power supply is stock. Can anyone please recommend a new Video card that would live happily in this PC, and Make STO Happy? I can't seem to get an support, but I was gone for a few months, and now I've patched the game, but I can't play. Since Cryptic and Arc can't seem to reply.. I'm resigning to myself they have tweaked the game to NOT allow my card to work anymore.. Never mind I have Romulan and Starfleet characters that Ive progressed in story arc quite far... Tho obviously Im behind now LOL
Anyway, Please let me know recommendations

X1600 is a dirext x9 card so i think it still should run sto but as sto now defaults to dx11 you might need this to force dx9

    1. Go into 'Options' in your launcher. Scroll down and check the 'Safe Mode' box. Below that, in 'Command Line', paste this (without the quotes) "-d3d11Enable 0 -d3d9Enable 0". Then make sure to click on 'Save'.

    2. Login. At the character select screen click on 'Options' in the lower right-hand corner. Click on the 'Display' tab and select DirectX 9 (I get two options for DX9, plain old DX9 and DX9EX...I've always used plain old DX9). Then click on apply.

    3. Then click on 'Back', in the lower left-hand corner, which will return you to the login screen. Click on 'exit' and completely exit the game, closing the launcher window and all.

    4. Reopen the launcher, go back to 'Options'. Make sure that 'Safe Mode' is now UNCHECKED. Also erase "-d3d11Enable 0 -d3d9Enable 0" from 'Command Line'. Click on 'Save'.

    5. Log back into STO, as you normally would. Voila, you're back in 'Normal Mode'! You'll have to reset all your in-game GFX settings, but this will allow you to play in 'Normal Mode' at least.

and if it doesnt work good video cards in the price range 200-300 are Nvidia GTX 960 and AMD Radon R9 380 where the amd card is a bit faster in most games in the 150-200 price range its the choice between AMD R9 270 and Nvidia 750-Ti and Nvidia GTX 950 where slowest to fastest is nv750ti>R9 270>NV gtx 950.

if money is no problem buy a new pc because its a bit old as most likely your cpu will be the bottleneck with all of these video cards

I think you will need to replace your power supply as its only 300+_ watts and most cards by themselves take up 200+ watts. lowest watt cards are 750ti it uses around 75 watt and the gts 950 around 100 watt. but its still cutting it very close to overloading your power supply if my assumption is correct that its a 300 watt power supply
