AMD Radeon Upgrade crashes

I just upgraded my GPU from a ridiculously old Nvidia GT120 to an ATI Radion R9 270x.

Everything is working fine apart from STO. Majority of the time it all loads and I get to the character selection screen. If I choose a character, it gets to around 97% of loading and then either freezes or crashes to desktop.

I've tried both deleting the gameprefs file and a complete re-install of STO, and still got the same problem.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem, it started when I updated my AMD to the new crimson, I had to remove all the AMD crimson software and download the previous version of Catalyst software, you have to search on AMD's website for the previous version manually, once installed it runs fine with the previous version of AMD catalyst, hope this helps you

The thing is, I'm on a mac, so there's no drivers to download from AMD. It's all built in to the OS.

Update... I can now play the game, but I can only have the settings on medium. If I set things like Lighting to high etc, it crashes.

The developers get these drivers WAY ahead of time in case of issues like this...........

Make sure to boot in DX9, DX11 is broken on AMD.

Macs don't have those settings in STO.

is you card getting enough power, or could be a heat problem. have tried to sart the game in safe mode from the launcher. if it does, then try to set the graphics by the sliders in graphics setting to see if that helps.

Nah, it's definitely a game/driver interaction issue, the last drivers I had that were reliable came with catalyst control center v15.2. Sadly for the OP having a Mac, that doesn't help.

Right, well I'd recommend bootcamping windows and running it in DX9 mode, though from what I can tell you're running an old Mac Pro from 2008, so perhaps it makes more sense just to buy a new PC/Mac if you can.
