Because if you add it a weapon slot, shuttles will become much more powerful than t1 frigates.

I always thought it was because of the shuttles small size it couldn't hold a rear torpedo bay or beam array (this is going by what I have seen from the series although I could be wrong about the design limitation). As far as game wise I guess because the shuttle would be too powerful and the fact that the ship is highly maneuverable is probably one of the reasons they didn't feel the need to add a rear weapon slot.

Most shuttles have a 360 Omni and Torp. You are forgetting however that these things turn on a dime, and it doesn't matter whether the have DBB, DHC, or Dual Torps, you're gonna be able to fire regardless. You're also forgetting that most shuttles don't have any offensive capability in the TV canon either!

Why bother? The best configuration for shuttles is torpedo bombers. Two forward torps, TS1, low weapons power, high shields, medium engines and aux. Rely on speed tanking and shield healing from high shields, and you'll never die. The best combo is neutronic and quantum phase torps.

I believe the known exceptions to that rule (on the show...no reason retrofitting couldn't have happened by the 25th century) are the Danube runabout and the Peregrine fighter. The Delta Flyer may also be armed but I didn't watch enough Voyager to be sure.

This pretty much...Frigates are 2/1...are you trying to say you think a shuttle should have the same armaments as a frigate? May as well Runabout levels 1-10...

most of my characters have shuttles fitted with 360 beam arrays as well as torpedos.

what he said sums it up nicely.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Shuttles are STO's minivans -- the aft section is usually occupied by a big cargo door, hence not leaving much room for weapons.

The thing I have seen by personal experience doing the few quests we have available for shuttles is that the enemy many times moves quicker than you, has better fire power and we end a lot of times dying a bunch of times doing a single quest, I honestly believe the shuttles deserve some love from the devs.

How about a 1/1 configuration though? So that you could load a shuttle with stuff like the Apex Predator set or Nukara Munitions?

Also seems like having no rear weapon slot adds to the WWII dogfight feeling.

Aside from all the 'game logic' the back of a shuttle is really just a big giant door. Considering that design I imagine the only way to get any shuttle to fire anything from the rear it to open that door and have whatever ensign draw the short straw hanging out the back with a rifle.

Well how about mounting the second weapon on top of the shuttle pointing towards the back?

Standard shuttles weren't usually armed at all, or had very little offensive capability to begin with [maybe a single array], however larger craft like the runnabout did have a typical array + torpedo armament, also there were fighters which I wouldn't call shuttles as they were just that, fighters.

In The Vault you don't need to fight the one ship near the end. Run away!

If you're dying to the fighters then you're doing it wrong -- it's not the shuttle, it's you

That is the point of the problem, if we are going to create battle missions for shuttles we need to give the shuttles some teeth

Honestly, I like the tu'doj with turrets. It'll move fast enough to not be hit, and still brings big things down reasonably well.

The T'Varo is doable even if it takes time, the Mogai should be avoided though.

Get a bit into the wrong direction during the decoy fight during Operation Gamma though, you may draw the aggro of a regular Jem ship. But then again, every other outcome from that than "Boom" start anew (or maybe a succesfull runrunrungofasterdangitrun) would not be fitting at all.

Operation Gamma took me dropping turrets to gank worker bees that tried to repair my work, in order to beat it. Though I do wonder how my shuttles would do now that I have at least sort of halfway decent equipment on them now. (One has Aegis, the other has Sol Defense).

I like to stick with a 360 beam array. My opinion the best torp to put on a shuttle is the Wide Angle Quantum. But it would be funny to slap some big nasty on their and do a banzai torpedo run.

Mines on shuttles were used in the TNG Episode Chain of Command pt 2 so it has happened, Also the Orion Slavers in game lay mines. It's a do able thing. Maybe make a mine shuttle. 1/1 weapon layout. Have it come with Mine Tac Ability like how fighters get CRF.

It could become the difference between the shuttles and fighters - shuttles would have 1/1 setup and possibly not able to mount dual cannons (for depicting canon armaments they could have the 360-beam in the back, and a torp in the front), and fighters would get that all-forward pew-pewiness. A small-craft version of the escort-cruiser-vessel trinity of sorts ;-)

I think the devs really need to look into boosting the shuttles if we are going to start having weekend shuttles events.
