I thought reason they took ages before season 9 is because every time the PvP crowd called for something to be balanced there was an immediate argument and flame war with the PvE lot. But that's why they have tribble, except instead of asking is to test something in PvP before release they just released it.

I'm not saying there should be no powercreep but it has to be regulated properly.

    Nope.

If I had to purchase separate items to access separate PvP mechanics, it would feel like I was rewarding them for introducing the items and mechanics that created the PvP issues in the first place. Think about it... first they alter much of the game in such a manner that it creates significant imbalances in PvP during the process of altering the PvE landscape. Then, they charge Zen (under your suggestion) to access the game without these imbalances, after charging Zen for many of the things that are themselves creating these imbalances. It just doesn't sit right with me.

With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

I like the way DCU does PvP: you unlock (through whatever means) characters to use against other unlocked characters. They're all premade. A zone in STO that did something similar with ships would probably be a big boost to PvP in general.

Or else not. I'm not sure if there are enough people left who still hope for a balanced PvP experience.

If they introduced premade PvP ships as part of a big PvP expansion, I might pay for it. But then I'd want more than just team deathmatch, I'd want to see STO equivalents of CTF, CTL, Rush/Assault and FFA.

They should just normalise all the gear levels for PvP. Like in Destiny outside of Trials of Osiris or Iron Banner all the gear levels are reduced to a normalised value to give a relatively equal playing field. I don't see why we can't have a similar system in STO frankly.

And no, I wouldn't buy PvP only ships.

EDIT: To be honest I don't think even that would make much difference. The games abilities and power creep are so out of control trying to get any sense of balance in PvP is almost impossible currently unless they ditch ALL the current abilities and create fresh ones for a PvP environment. Perhaps if they gave certain ship classes or types specific skill sets (Heavy cruisers differ from light cruisers etc) it would make it more interesting.

That is what I am saying. At this point, the only way to balance PvP into something doable is to have PvP only ships that has a set of abilities for that ship and that is all...NONE of your other stuff...not your skills, not your boff, not your doffs, not your traits...NOTHING else but what the ship comes with. That is pretty much the ONLY way to have a balanced PvP game at this point. The trouble is, the PvP players in this game will never go for that. They WANT to show off their e-peen. Not only show it off, but that want to shove it forcefully down your blown up husk and tea bag you. They go on and on about how PvP is about skill...BS. It's all about gear. This is why new players has been ignoring PvP and why they choose to abandon PvP. Because it just can't grow with a playerbase like that. So their PvP option is to ignore it and let it die...or make it balanced like I said and have all the PvP players leave and HOPE that some of the new players join in to replace them. The smart choice from a buisness stand point was to let it die...so they did.

ur so totally wrong about the former pvp community, but i guess thats ok. i only wanted to stop by to tell u u're wrong on that lol.
oh, also: in b4 da mooove

From what I experience...no I am not. I am sure if you were one of the DB, you wouldn't think you were either. Most DB don't think they are one after all. From what other newer players have said...also supports my experience. I am sure there were small groups of good players who were nice...and I am sure you just interacted with those people...but for the rest of us...yeah PvP was kind of a cesspool. And the few rare ones who still do it...yep, still DB (here is a clue, random PvP invites is NOT welcome...nor is sending one after another after the person declines). So basically...yeah, even though I have an idea that could save PvP, i'd rather the whole thing just offically go away at this point.

that's ok, we all got our own experiences. and, as i know, many who just dipped into it may share ur impression (as i did after my first runs). but i can tell u, as i dived into it a bit deeper (not to the grounds, true): those db's u're referring on just had been the loud minority.
most of em has been nice and helpful people, just looking for fun and sportsmanship. sure, everyone sometimes crosses lines, so good people may did sometimes too. but for most of the time and pvp'ers that not has been common.
and the effort certain parts of the community put into making pvp worthwhile, while partly, up to totally ignored by the devs (i think the devs loved the quality of feedback regarding testing and reporting bugs) is outstanding!
tourneys, bootcamp, leaderboard, feedback, events, runs for territory control, certain channels, support for those showing interest in pvp and a lot more!

not that any of that would matter anymore or ever really did... i can calm u, it's dead! the former community mostly vanished, except for a few.
and those db's are everywhere, it's not tied to pvp or anything else. it's tied to em individually, not to what they do. it's how they do it ;)...

p.s.: had too much time for a moment. feel free to further comment, i'm out ;).

Have to agree with @wast33. I wasn't a DB when I regularly did PvP and I'm still not. I don't use broken meta either. The fleet difoant I built was for alpha striking, counter-vaping and support. It was a build for good times back in the glory days of season 8.
Cheese was met with a swift and brutal response from the good players who had self respect and respect for others.

I will not deny that there weren't massive idiots in PvP. Usually though I only got a bad attitude if I gave them bad attitude. When I started I did a lot of C&H and asked for tips.
I was taught how to use abilities properly and so on. PvE never taught me anything even when I asked for help in the queues.

What forms of this game aren't "terribad" in your opinion? Because the PvE in STO is nowhere near as fun or as challenging as PvP was back in season 8.5.

Don't forget that PvPers fought for science and engineering to be useful in the game because all the focus was on tactical and escorts. They also fought for balance which the PvErs never did, all they ever want is more DPS.
