Let's see what happens with the server restart today. It might fix some of the issues. If not then back to the drawing board.
Nah, game UI is still laggy and crowded social areas are still laggy. Feels more like a memory leak issue at ESD, anyway. CPU likes to spike there.
Well, can't blame me for being an optimist
I'm sure the devs will give it another go after new Year.
As opposed to the last 2 months?
I was going to write a multi-paragraph rant about how all these duplicate threads that keep popping up aren't helping either, but I doubt it'd have done any good.
Suffice to say, Cryptic knows there's a problem and they're trying to fix it. The Bug Hunters get it, but frankly there's nothing we can really do about it unless someone stumbles on another reason for the lag over than the tech-related one Cryptic are already trying to fix.
Ten soldiers wisely led will beat a hundred without a head. - Euripides
I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

Well, a handy way to reduce duplicate threads would be to have something similar patch notes linked via the launcher (since some people don't directly read the forums), communicating to us what problems are currently under investigation. An in-game spot to look up this info would be handy, too.
It's the lack of communication/acknowledgement that really frustrates players the most and creates so much pessimism/cynicism.
As for the lag and UI problems, I'm really of the opinion that there's a memory leak issue on several maps, amongst other functions as well. I've noticed a lot that I get a lot of memory usage in certain areas, whether on high graphic settings or not and the game itself seems to be a memory hog to begin with.

Well First.... Patch Notes are no longer on the forums for that very reason. They are now on the main STO website, because they get considerably more traffic there, so that point is moot.
Second, the devs communicate quite well and often about how/what they are doing to combat the LAG; and many other issues. You just need to look for it. It could be on Facebook/Twitter/Forums/Reddit/Dev Blogs. Look for it.... Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it wasn't said, and before you say it, no they are not going to compile it all into one place, because no matter where you put it, its not gonna be seen by everyone. Players have their own preferences about where they choose to go for information. Mine are Twitter/Reddit and then the Forums.
Also, there really isn't anything that can be done about Duplicate Threads. Duplicate Threads are ususally created by one of 3 Groups of Players
20% Regular Players who "honest to god, looked but didn't see the duplicate"
40% New Players - Brand new, and don't know about previous threads, or even where to start looking for them. Can't really be blamed imho.
40% People Who know about the previous thread and don't care.
Really there isn't anything that can be done about duplicate threads, its a necessary evil, when you allow multiple people to post on the same board at the same time. only thing that can be done to to Close and redirect members to Correct Threads, which may sound easy but its not. Lets say a featured episode launches and they have completely flip flopped Sela and Kagrens audio. A simple mistake and Easily* fixed, and something cause by every player on first play though.
All these players come to the bug section and search and post, all within the Span of 5 Minutes. BOOM!!! We now have umpteen duplicate threads on the same issue, because even though they searched and there wasn't a thread when they got here, there are now threads because they all posted at the same time. It's now a moderating Nightmare, and no one can make heads or tails about which thread came first and which is the original.

The facebook page rarely, if ever, gets updated. The twitter page is just a pain in the a** to navigate and reddit is even worse. But, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of bugs go completely ignored until someone makes a big enough stink about it, and even then, sometimes it stays ignored (like all the bugs on Defera ground invasion).
That's what I find the most irritating. Their concept of what is a "priority" leaves much to be desired. At this point, I have little faith in them to get things done. Heaven knows, the response team for in-game tickets are utterly useless and more often than not, have no idea what we're talking about.

And they wonder why they receive so much snark.
Players on AMD CPUs have severe performance problems in STO because the game does not make use of the available resources.

I'm on an Intel CPU and have the problems. Soon as an instance starts getting full, FPS starts dropping.
