Oh I'm sure you guys at Cryptic and "Perfect" World couldn't be happier to hear about seeing a NEW SHIP. I can already hear credit cards being pulled out just waiting for whatever new ship we see in this show to be added to the game.
You all know you will have to pay to be able to watch this show yeah?
I've seen some comments in the Ten Forward thread indicating that you MIGHT only have to subscribe if you want to see the episodes on their first run, but that they will re-air on network TV after a delay.
Can anyone comment on whether this is the case or not?

Good news, and like some others have said, CBS has the rights to the prime universe, not to the new movies in the alternate universe. At least that is my understanding.
Personally I am hoping they find some way to tie it into Star Trek Online.
Can't argue with all the freebies recently, and this is a pretty big one. Thanks, that's awesome!
I hope if the series is set in the post-Picard era, there are more than a few nods to the great job that you guys have been doing with the franchise lately, in the absence of a show. Some of the stuff that's been in STO absolutely needs to be referenced into on-screen canon.
The person in charge is the one who produced the JJ-verse movies and co-wrote Into Darkness - it's likely going to be set there, rather than in Prime.
NOPE, JJ-Trek belongs to Paramount.
TV Trek belongs to CBS.
And ne'er between the two shall meet.

I'm kinda-sorta hoping that they show us the years during the Romulan Wars.
That would be a good thing for the game also, as it wouldn't negate anything they've created on their own so far.
Thanks for the freebie Cryptic.
(even though it's been in my Legacy tab for ages now, it's still the thought that counts)

it's being produced by CBS...CBS can't touch the reboot universe
Huh. Really. Hmm, now that you mention it. I thought that was only in regards to STO and the Cryptic Dev team.
But if it IS a prime universe series...well...there may be hope for this thing yet.

Oh! My! GOD! ENOUGH! Enough with the frakking double xp BS! -.-
We JUST had a full week of this s**t and now we have another one?!?!
PLEEEEEEAAAAAASE! Please just give me a date where I can play for just one frakking week without having to spend practically the whole damned campaign as an admiral! At least let me opt out of this c**p! -.-
Look, before the recent change, the only way you could get through the whole game in one fluid run without too much grind and without having to spend the majority of it with the same ship was to play at the last week of the month. So I sat and waited for two whole weeks and then they say they nerfed the 50 - 60 grind BUT they had the whole frigging week for double xp! #SALT! So I then waited another week, finally started playing today and, you guessed it, ANOTHER FRIGGING XP WEEK! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
You all know you will have to pay to be able to watch this show yeah?

From the StarTrek.com announcement:
The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
The next chapter of the Star Trek franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

Plus the phasers, the uniforms, the bridge pack, potential new species, maybe some new races.
Actually its already been confirmed that the new series will have nothing to do with the JJ films.
They just said it won't tie into Beyond, which means if they worked out the legal stuff they could still set it in the JJverse it just wouldn't have anything to do with what Kirk and co. are up to in Beyond.
And I doubt if they had to choose between the Primeverse and the JJverse they would pick the Primeverse seeing as the JJverse is the one making significant amounts of cash right now.
Would be great if I could claim it as I am missing the T'pol uniform but have the Ship and the NX prefix already so can't claim the freebie and get the missing items for my account.
Oh I'd love to, believe me I'd love to, except I can't help feeling trolled. Also, THIS XP WEEK ISN'T ON THE CALENDAR! What's the point in having a calendar to inform people of what they're gonig to do if they don't frakking follow it? I know it was announceed this morning but why not plan to have NEXT week as an xp week?

I'm very grateful for the free pack and the XP week - more so the free pack. Three different uniform packs is very generous and the ship is a little bonus. Much appreciated.

Also, YOU might be grateful for it but that does NOT mean that my complaints are invalid!

they said it was a "totally new Trek" not related to the new film which is part of JJ-verse. So I take that to mean the new series will not take place in JJ verse. Plus, CBS has no rights to the JJ verse at the present time. It could also be a completely new universe/timeline. Or even a time jump forward. But I think the JJ verse is pretty off limits for now.
but seeing as they are taking the franchise, the anniversary and saying that it will play heavily on the themes and elements from the prime universe franchise, i'd say its safe bet that it will take place in prime.
