Edit* it is the second video down. I can't do an actual edit bacause the new forum design doesn't play well with tablets and cuts off the side of the screen.

    YOU BLASPHEME! HERETIC! BLASPHEMER!

Just kidding. I didn't mind Jar Jar either. He was pretty good at comic relief. Also the detail work was quite impressive. He really looked like he could be there with the actors.

People often forget that a phantom menace was/is a children's movie (which is why they are only fight droids in the "prequels"). For kids in the apprpriate age, Jar Jar Binks was a goofy funny character which played physical comedy and even a TRIBBLE joke straight. Star Wars fans shouldn't make the movies more "serious" then they are.

I was a teenager when it came out. But even back then, I was obsessed with everything Star Wars. I already had the Original Trilogy, and I watched it as often as Mother would allow. And I had every Star Wars set Lego made at the time.

Wow...first how dragged Star Trek through the mud now Star Wars...he really doesn't give a damn about the fans and will go along and do what ever her wants no matter how much he is...*leaking* on them or the lore.

For goodness sake. Watch the bloody film before jumping on the damn thing. How about trying to be grateful he's taking the time to put some Star Trek or Wars on the telly considering they were effectively dead.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Thank you. And even for Trek I can disagree with some of the judgment calls he made in the movies without having to excoriate every single little thing JJ did. He DID bring some attention back to Trek even though CBS hamstrung him--until then, the franchise was moribund.

In fact, I am even coming close to thinking that he brought THE best film score of ANY Trek movie to the franchise, by bringing on Michael Giacchino again for Into Darkness. (The only other contenders IMO are First Contact and maybe The Wrath of Khan, though truthfully it's between STID and FC for me.)

I have to agree with this. While Star Wars had more of a presence in media due to the Clone Wars cartoons and more merchandice, JJ Abrams did bring Star Trek back into the spotlight. And he is now bringing back Star Wars to the big screen. Some people may go bananas over losing what they thought was canon in the Expanded Universe, and while I do agree that the Thrawn Trilogy was VERY WELL written, I am one of the people who see books and games as either non-canon or soft canon unless otherwise stated like with the game Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is considered a direct sequel to the movie Aliens. Unless something is to be considered canon or is referenced on screen, games and books really have no bearing on the movieverse.

While the Star Wars EU was pretty good at continuing the story... it was not seen on screen. Unless they wanted to make some of the books into movies, maintaining the EU as some sort of official canon would have hamstrung any movies and may not make sense to anyone who hasn't read the books themselves and very well may harm the franchise.

The fact remains that Star Trek and Star Wars are back on screens and people are being exposed to them. The AR Star Trek is a Trek for a new generation, and it may very well lead them to checking out the older movies and shows. Star Wars is coming back and being introduced to a new generation while bringing back old favorites from the original trilogy.

So for all the haters out there who think JJ Abrams is evil... give the frickin' movie a chance before you cry DOOM!

Yes. I have the odd track from the older films on my MP3 player but the entire ID soundtrack, I really like it.

I haven't decided whether it ties or exceeds First Contact, my other "best soundtrack." But it is superb. I even re-bought it when Varese Sarabande put out the special edition just so I could get my hands on the unreleased "Ode to Harrison."

Also... attempting to weave the entire EU into cohesive whole is a task that would likely have taken a dozen people YEARS. And even then.... Trying to write a movie script that strictly adheres to all of it? heh....

That video confirms it. Jar Jar is in fact going to be in the movie. There is no disputing it.

    Wookie? Check.
Plucky little robot everyone but the audience can understand? Check.
Naive farm kid who's never been to the big city, yet knows how to fly a starship? Check.
    Harrison Ford? Check.
    Jar Jar Binks? Check.

Looks like we got ourselves a Star Wars movie! Add a few 'splosions, some weird looking hardware, and a few gratuitous lens flares, and it'll be guaranteed to be a hit!

The sad truth is, there is such a dearth of good Sci Fi coming out of Hollywood that the audience for such films will gobble up every TRIBBLE Hollywood drops and beg for more, which Hollywood will be sure to provide, because TRIBBLE is all they know how to make any more. TRIBBLE and remakes, that is.

I long for a day not so far in the future when the gear needed to make a real film becomes cheap enough for independent producers to make quality material. Axanar, (Ares Studios,) is a step in the right direction, and I'm willing to bet that next summer the real blockbuster in the SciFi movie industry will be made somewhat north of Hollywood.
