I opened 20 xindi terrestrial boxes and got squat, no kemocite, got 1 ship that looks like a hotdog on a bun oozing mustard from the portholes (Malon battlecruiser I think). 1thing of six [Dilithium Mining Claims], 15 packages of RD items and 3 ship weapons. Wow that was money wasted down the drain.

Most unexpectedly, this turned into a flame-fest! Closed it goes!. /sigh What flamefestery is this? pwlaughingtrendy

Yes, will be a funny time again.
Only time I ever won a ship was the one time I actually wasn't opening boxes for the ship...I was just doing it for Lobi with the free keys I got from my LoR pack.
If I come across any lobi ships that interest me, I might rack up enough to get it but right now, no.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
The only time I would differ from that is if you really value MANY other items in the boxes besides the ship--as in, you are unlikely to be disappointed and opening the boxes will serve a clear and easily achievable objective without the ship. Depending on what you get however, and how many you open, you are still in danger of not breaking even.

Pfff...yeah right...you lie to the goods...there is no such thing as a virgin in this day and age unless you're like 10
I actually got a leech console as well from those keys...but I ended up using it on a Fed Rom...so yeah the only time I've gotten the big prizes is when I never cared about the prizes at all. >.<
I have always had horrible luck with boxes, I rarely open them.
I decided the other day to just do a $10 donation to STO and bought some keys. Got the Xindi Olaen on my 3rd try.. I was shocked.
It truly is random.. overall though, I agree with others that for the most part it's not worth it. In most cases you're better off selling the keys and buying what you want off the exchange. I happened to get lucky this one time, but I'm sure if I bought a hundred more keys I would never again get another ship I wanted. I have used all my luck in that one pull.. I'm done.
So far I tend to have pretty good luck with these things. Out of the ten or so RNG things (total of everything, I don't like RNG) I've opened, I made a massive profit on some of them, broke even on others, and got other things that weren't what I would have liked but were good all the same, and only lost on a few, which is a good haul; one lockbox opened a Dil claim pack, so that paid for itself nicely way back when Dil:Zen was between 120:1 and 130:1(anyone else remember those days?)
But then stuff that involves RNG for doffs has generally been bad - the major exception was the Gamma Doff giveaway, where I got Doffs worth 1.3 million EC. But, overall I'm up by about 5-6 million - I got very lucky with a Coalition Disruptor pack that dropped a [crtd]x3 beam array, which sold for 12 million EC. And despite promising myself I wouldn't spend it all, I managed to spend it all equipping my less equipped alts with hordes of blue doffs...
But really, the thing to do is to buy whatever it is you want from the exchange - especially when the lockbox is current - final price on the exchange is the vast majority of the time lower than the cost equivalent of using whatever resource it takes to get the item, because as the volume of supply on the exchange increases the prices come down to below expected cost due to competition and the RNG working in favour of some people who get the desired item way before you could reasonably expect the item based on a binomial probability distribution. (a lockbox ship's odds are generally 0.5%, but that is by no means the same as saying you'll get one for opening 250 boxes. Open 10,000 boxes and you'll probably get an approximation to 1:250, but it is still not guaranteed you will get even one)
You had to open 20 lockboxes to discover this? I, and common sense could have told you as much for free.
Anything I might get from the actual boxes is a lucky bonus.
The only other time I buy keys is when I need some fast EC to make a purchase. I never, ever expect to get anything from a lockbox, doing so only invites disappointment.
