When is a warp core Not a Warp core

(disclaimer: Yeah I know I'm moaning, this is just me blowing off steam. Imagine how many naughty words I was using last night)

So last night I unpacked a Tal Shiar Adapted destroyer. I'd got it mostly for the warp core and the console. Because ever since they came out I've thought it'd be kinda cool to fly everything as Borg (seeing as my captain is a Liberated Borg). Now it'd taken me a while to amass the EC to afford this.

Imagine my annoyance when I tried to slot the warp core into a ship, and got yelled at by the game. It's a warp core, it even says its not usable by Warbirds. So logically one would expect it to be able to fit into a warp core slot. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a warning on it somewhere.
Equally the console isn't nearly as universal as the text implies.
As a life timer whose been around since the open Beta I really don't need another destroyer. What I'd like is the warp core for other ships. But alas I suspect this will never happen.

Now I'm off to glare in a very grumpy fashion at the ship in my fleet bay.

"Universal" consoles are honestly no where near as universal as they were supposed to be they have all been shoe horned into a specific ship or two which is kinda annoying to most folks, i mea most of the reason most folks seem to uy ships is for the consoles in them,

Universal Console primarily means that you can equip them in any console slot on a qualifying ship. Ship restrictions for them existed since day one basically, when they first turned ship special abilities from the Tier 5 canon retrofits into consoles rather than in-built abilities.

They need to be more specific with consoles..."universal" to me is unable on anything, but these ones...

The most bizarre thing recently has been the newest lock box and Lobi ships...you can equip five ship specific consoles on the Annorax!

I always fill my science console slots with universals. On my Nicor I am using plasmonic leech, assimilated console, bounty hunter's friend, and the radiant console.

What else would you put in science slots on a warship? It's like, do you fit flow capacitors to a bird of prey so you can shoot tachyon beams? Or fit particle generators to a scimitar for the amazing photonic shockwaves? Because they are amazing you know. I always jump out of my seat at the thrill of a photonic shockwave!

Anything that doesn't benefit your weapons is useless on a warship. If you follow this train of thought, there is room for lots of uni consoles in ship builds.

As someone who just bought a TSABC, this is a handy PSA.

I have to admit, i wouldn't normally have thought of trying to stick the warp core in another ship. I only kept it because it was unique and irreplaceable. I REALLY wish i had a reason to use it over a Fleet core. at least its useful to keep around for Tour the Galaxy since it boosts sector speed :) wonder if it stacks with borg engines...

If you've been around for that long you should know by now that almost all special equipment that comes with T5+ ships is restricted to that ship or a few related ships.

If you've been around as a lifer, then you know all too well that most Universals have a list of qualifying ships in their description AND the meaning behind Universal Consoles are that they can be equipped in any console slot, not any ship. It clearly mentions this in the 'Info' tab on every piece of equipment.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Yes and no. Quite a number are true universal. However that's mostly beside the point, the warp core is the main issue.

And I use that Dyson one on all of my Science Ships. One of my character did craft some of those Secondary Deflectors (one of each type) but I never really looked at them to see if I would use them.
