If you gave me 20 free ship slots, maybe I'd use them by buying dilithium ships. The free space I have is not enough. I have 8 mirror ship reward packs in my inventory ready for the admiralty system, as well as a Risan Corvette, Dyson Sci Destroyer and a Plesh Brek raider, Nihydron destroyer, APU cruiser, Malon cruiser and Kazon raider. Not to mention the Sarr Theln I will grind for this Winter, and whatever other Breen ship goes along with it, to go along with my Chel Grett.
And to keep those ships in my roster, I will have to delete all my mirror ships and free anniversary ships. And THEN, I'd have to start spending hundreds of thousands of dilithium to fill the slots up with trash t4 ships for the sole purpose of the admiralty system, and then probably dismiss them again in the future in case we ever get more free ships, and more lobi/c-store ships.
Not to mention, the admiralty system is kind of... meh. I tested these low ships out on the admiralty system and very few of the ships were able to fill the tac/eng/sci requirements to start the assignments anyway. Only T5-U ships were useful in that area. So really, the only ships people will need are C-store T6 ships and a bunch of T5-U ships which for people who will collect them, will have to pay between 90-500mil on the exchange.
GOOD NEWS! You don't need to keep the ship after you get the Admiralty ship card. So you can just cycle through stuff to get all the cards, then after you get the card you can toss the ship.
I already said I will have to delete them. At least the mirror ships don't cost that much, and they only have like 9 consoles. But they aren't even worth using in the admiralty system anyway since they don't reach the requirements.
Heh.... They may be inferior, but that doesn't make them useless. Sometimes it's useful to have a few extras even if you don't use them often. Especially if it fits a role you don't have otherwise.
Jaturnley I also believe many will enjoy the extension of the DOFF system, despite the community desiring direct game content (missions) more often--this is a very nice addition. Perhaps in retrospect it would have been wise to annouce the quality of these & all other ships in game by the Admiralty System. Still the DIL Discount should be welcomed & appreciated! We should also thank them for another recent change, that allows all characters to reclaim EVENT ships earned on an account--to do so visit the REPUTATION TAB | EVENT | STORE | Ship Reclaim.
What I suspect caused tension for a few was spending DIL on ships to discover they are COMMON or UNCOMMON quality? Yet one should recognize that T5/T6 ZEN ships purchased in the C-STORE/Lockboxes are RARE quality, whereas EVENT SHIPS & FLEET SHIPS are recognized as a VERY RARE Quality. I'd say that is a fair reflection of the true state of ships in the game. I also agree with Royalsovereign that it's nice were getting options to pursue, and why I wanted to clarify some other recent changes in game. Royalsovereign also correctly identified lower tier ships (lessor quality) have shorter maintenance period's allowing for quicker reassignment to new missions.
So I hope most welcome this price reduction as a positive step forward, as they enjoy the extention of the DOFF UI in the Admiralty System. Also with the announcement of the Dry Dock System, placing ships in long term storage rather than decommission, is another kind gesture & feature to be thankful for. It's a feature most never asked for, yet the vast majority will appreciate.

Still overpriced. And since I'm the kind who usually just sets and forgets all the doff missions and R&D crafting, and don't bother with them until the next time I log in (unless they complete while I'm still in-game), they're also not worth the dil.
Sure, those low rank ones have short maintenance, but you'll also be needing some Rare+ ships to get a better successful rate. So you can't really Doff 2.0 everything in short order despite short maintenance times.
Fleet project: Something useful to members of my 2 fleets and the armadas they are part of.
Yeah, I'll keep filling fleet projects with my dil.
That pretty much says it all.
Because, srsly, when was the last time one would ponder if it's better spend dil on "X" or a fleet project and conclude that the horribly paying project would be the better investment?

Uh, because, as Ixionveridian hints, it might be less about the "payout" and more about the benefit(s) granted to the player(s) that have access to said "investments"...
Now, this is a "touchy" issue. I'm a bit... upset... that Cryptic's essentially said "it's cheaper, on a zen basis, to "replace" the ships you've hung onto for all these months for this very eventuality than it was to have bought ship roster slots to keep them.
On the other hand, I am happy that Cryptic's thinking of people who dismissed the "otherwise extremely useless" levelling ships a cheap method of reacquiring them, if they so desire, for the Admiralty system - so they too, have access to whatever "utility" they may bring... In some parts of my mind, I actually question the fact that they've priced the ships above what someone who maxxes out dilithium income from now till the end of the sale would need to fully replace their T1-T5 lineup...
I also, yet again, wonder why everything that has some sort of "useful endgame connotation" needs to be priced in Dilithium - even though they've yet to make "major" adjustments to the Dilithium economy - ie, the amount of income today is "exactly" the same as it was back when Dil was made the "endgame currency" in S5, but there's way more places to spend it now than there was then... 8,000 / day, 8,500 if you're an "800 day veteran" / have access to Fleet T2 Dil Mine, 9k with both...

It's called "Headline Grabbing'. It's a concept used in newspapers, shops etc galore. It's not mis-leading, nor false advertising and trying to claim so, you would be laughed out of court for being ignorant. You know it's a headline and you know that it leads to further information on that.

True... but it's a good sign, anyway, that they might perhaps be willing to listen when we, the players, talk about lowering dilithium and Zen prices...

The problem is refined dil. Unless Admiralty is allowing us to refine more or receive refined dil as a reward it isn't an investment. Unrefined dil is worthless with how easy it is to acquire.
But then they couldn't get people to grind dilithium or even pay real money to buy zen to convert to dilithium to buy the ship to get the card.

Shouldn't all FED captains get a T1 Miranda ship card? . . . we all had that ship to start.
if they didn't throw it away.
I was referring to the fact that Cryptic said they do not keep track of what ships captains throw away. Cryptic knows all FED captains started in a Miranda.

I do agree with you on that one, I think it would be nice if characters from all three factions were granted a 'card' for their faction's starter ship by default. I mean, I have characters which are now more than 5 years old. There was no way to predict that 5 and a half years after launch they would implement a system which would require me to have kept hold of that starter ship and it seems a bit rubbish making me buy it again for dilithium if I want access to it for this system. Especially as somebody who alts a lot, I have 18 characters at this point and I don't consider any of them to be a "main". To buy just the starter ship on all of my characters again, even during the 50% off week, is going to cost me 45,000 dilithium!
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
Heh...
I don't know why really, but I kept that ship on all my toons...
I guess just for nostalgias sake.

Not for me. It's a rare day that I can max out my refinement limit. And I could theoretically even extent it as a lifetime subscriber. The people that regularly exceed the refinement limit are still a minority if even someone that plays daily like me can't crack it regularly.

Why can't it go back to how it was when STO first came out? Those standard ships used to cost EC, and those Lv40 ships costed about 50k EC.
