Post-Yamato Andromeda.

With the Andromeda being more of a science ship, and the Yamato and Andromeda sharing the same Boff layout, I think maybe the Boff layout for the Andromeda deserves a bit of tweaking.

Just a little TLC to differentiate it's Boff layout. Change the LTC ENG/Command to a lt, and the lt Sci to LTC Sci/Command.

I think this would benefit both ships by giving them slightly tweaked focuses.

And I'd say we better stay as far away from chaning the boff layout on the Andromeda as we can.

People bought the ship for those stats and the Galaxy look. If you are now gonna retro-actively change the Andromeda (even though this is always possible), you end up pissing off a lot of people. Especially since many people prefer the layout as is over the one you mentioned.

Also keep in mind this is an upgrade from the T5. And changing the boff layout like you proposed would also mean changing the T5 version, and many people will remember where thousands of comments on "What is your beef with the Galaxy Cryptic" let to. A change to the wrong ship.

    Fair enough, I'm just brainstorming.

Would be nice to see a science/support cruiser at some point without being the full blown Command Ship.

How exactly is the Andromeda more of a science ship? Your changes would make it a jack of all trades like the Guardian is (srsly, that's literally it's layout you're proposing there just with a different spec) but it would still be equal in both tac & sci. Again, like the Guardian is.

But, I mean. There are plenty of support powers in Engineering already? I think Science and Engineering have about the same number of actual friendly support powers, but Engineering's just function somewhat differently. Like, Extend Shields/Transfer Shield Strength and Auxiliary to Structural/Hazard Emitters are roughly analogous to each other.
Plus, the Andromeda has enough Tac and Command power to fire up a nice debuffing combo of B:FAW and Suppression Barrage. And with the Science seating it does have, it can still get those aformentioned Science skills, so.
Heck, if you're a fan of it and know how to execute the move properly, you can even get Boarding Parties going, maybe in dudes trapped in ejected Warp Plasma.

As it stands, the Andromeda is not even really a full-blown Command Ship. It doesn't have the Inspiration Mechanic, and it's highest BOff seat is a basic Engineering one; all Specialized ships have their highest seat as their hybrid Specialization one. The Andromeda's Command BOff seat is only at Lt.Cdr. That's why the ship is still labeled as an Exploration Cruiser and not an Exploration Command Cruiser.

Just because a ship has a Hybrid Specialization BOff seat doesn't necessarily make it a Specialized Ship.

While I support the idea behind it, that set-up had to be on the Andromeda at release. Retroactive changes of BOFF-layouts are basically impossible, aside from changing one station to a uni so existing set-ups aren't nullified. Ships that have been bought by people for a reason cannot be changed afterwards.

But I think what you like to see may very well be on a T6 Nebula. My personal suggestion:

CMDR Sci, LTC Uni/Intel (upgraded Lt Uni and Intel spec fits the Nebula best, according to behind the scenes info like non-visible impulse trails), LTC Eng, LT Tac, Ens Sci, Eng: 3 (Fleet: 4), Sci: 5, Tac: 2

I'd say that for a Science-orientated cruiser, we really should start lobbying for a Star Cruiser T6 release. The Star Cruiser lineup are amazing ships with very great looks. However, these ships never were top-notch, and I didn't saw one flying since DR hit.

    So how about a
    Cmd Eng
    Lt Cmd Sci
    Lt Cmd Eng
    Lt tac
    Ens uni
    with a 4e/4s/2t split?

Ofcourse updating the tactical powers of this ship won't hurt one bit, but keep it in general sci orientated. We could always swap the Lt Cmd Eng and Tac, and give the consoles a 4/3/3 split with the 4th sci console on Fleet T6.

Could probably be launched pretty nicely alongside a Dhelan T6 and a Vorcha sci focussed T6. As in, all of these are no sci vessels, but sci focussed indeed.

    Cough Cough Science support cruiser. We have 2 possibilities a Ambassador update or convert the Nebula to a Science cruiser even if she only has a 4/3 weapon allocation. (Cryptic please update the Nebula she deserves better}

Well, I like my Andromeda the way it is.

If you want a lt-comm sci cruiser, the Guardian is just that.

Yes, Yamato and the Andromeda have the same boff layout...it's basically the same ship.

    BUT

I think it would've been nice to have a different specialisation seat, like intel.

I'd say to leave the Andromeda alone. The differences between her and Yamato are subtle outside of the Phaser Lance gimmick. The meta in a way can favor the Andromeda's console layout than the traditional 4 TAC Console layout of Yamato, but it depends on the build.

The T5U Odyssey and T6 Guardian still capably fill the roles of SCI Cruiser. Hell, Guardian still has a LtCmdr TAC to go along with it.

We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

This thread does bring out a point that does need to be addressed.

With T6, instead of adding greater diversity with BOFF slots, it's actually doing the opposite and new T6 ships are having identical BOFF slots. So it's very possible new T6 ships might encounter similar problems.

Sooner or later we'll get a T6 Odyssey.

Honestly, when you're looking at changing an existing ship that people paid money for, about the most you can do is change existing stations to universal. Which, I mean, if the Andromeda changed one of its LtCmdr stations to a universal one, I don't think you'd see many complaints from people who already bought one. But, at the same time, I think we both know that's not going to happen.

Why bother with an LtC Sci when there's the Guardian? Which is all but a successor to the Ambassador (based off Probert's concept) and has Lt Intel?

Then again, it's possible we could see an LtC Sci/Command hybrid on a T6 Ambassador, if they choose to do one. Still would be inferior to the Guardian or Odyssey (moreso since a T6 Odyssey is apparently in the works), but at least now you'll be able to GravWell 1 and Suppression Barrage 1 more easily as befitting of a Support Cruiser.

well honestly, I'm don't find the guardian aestetically pleasing.

After I started this thread I realized what I more or less want is a Kobali Samsar with a Federation Hull. If the Geneva had full access to normal cruiser commands I would be all over her. I'll probally just use the Samsar until anything more fitting comes out. My main ship on my fed Sci is still her T5U Nebula.

Even though only 2 of my 12 toons are Feds, I'd love to see something like a Science 3pk, with Nebula, Luna, and Rhode Island, all having different specilizations. I'm one of the primarily KDF players who isn't so upset about the lack of sci ships, but would like to see member race ships for both factions. I jumped on the Gurumba, even though I would have perfered a Vandal or Scourge. A pack with Gorn, Orion, and a Ferasan Ship would be nice.

Sorry I strayed light years off topic, kid has been sick all night, only got a few 30 minute chunks of sleep while he briefly calms down. Heck just took 20 minute nap sitting in my starbase, AFK....

If the specilization spot was attached to the LT CMDR Eng, that gives the option to boost Tactical with specilization abilities, without sacrificing LTC science access.

a Vor'cha with a LTC Sci, or the Kamarag retaining the LTC Sci would be a fantastic ship to be the KDF counterpart.

They would really need to have a nice new skin for the Starcruiser, always hated it's basic look. But with the current design language from the command cruisers it could come out looking really sharp.

I use guardian for a science cruiser.

I love the idea of a star cruiser T6 update! Some of the skins were awesome. Throw sensor analysis on it and you've got a sale!
