i somehow have to agree....while i dont like any of those designs...Omega is at least the least ugliest of the Ugly ones :P and yea the similar look to the Jupiter Class, which has the Size and appereance of something one could call a Carrier is also an advantage of omega, so i gues Omega will be the winner.
My fourite is Delta because it's round and round things re good. And it's size/volume is actually bigger than Omega, but people want the Jupiter look which is why this will be the winner. It doesn't even matter if another design would make more sense, it's basically a rehash of an original abandoned design - there's really no competition.

Well, while I prefer the Omega design and I always wanted a Jupiter-Done-Right type of design in the game - I don't think it's that an automatic win. But we'll see.

See, Delta is a very big round thing
But seriously, the Jupiter fandom might be big enough to win the "contest" because I guess most other people don't really care for that thing to begin with. And even so there is a rather clear trend towards going as far away from traditional trek designs as possible. The omega/jupiter thing abandons the whole saucer - engineering hull scheme completely and I guess that's what people want, something that looks like an actual aircraft carrier or at least something we know from other franchises. Just one boxy hull. Closest competition I'd guess is either epsilon or alpha as they are also more "modern".

Personally, I don't have any loyalty to the Jupiter itself, whether it was 'done right' or not. I barely remember what it looked liked, since I never got the chance to get it. There used to be projected holograms of the ship in the old ship selection room (Each ship had a hologram projection and stats for the ship, whereas the KDF, when they were added, got to have a single hologram projection system that you can select the ship type and see the difference between ship classes without running around in a cavernous room), so that was the closest I got to see the details of the Jupiter.
It's interesting that nobody posted the original Jupiter in the polls, esp. the ones that really miss it and want it or something like it.

Maybe those give you an idea. The ship was removed from the game some time ago, although the sector space symbol for battle group omega still has one (hence the "Omega" design, I guess)

I wonder if it's really completely gone, the MIrror Universe enemies still spawn Typhoons, where they seem to have been removed from the "real" Fed enemy group. But single players can't really spawn dreadnoughts in most missions.

I really like how they are interacting with the player base to pick how the ship will look, I hope this is done for KDF and ROM as well for their carriers (I'm assuming they will be getting a carrier).
Maybe next time they do something like this they should hold a contest for the players to summit the top/side profile views then the design team could pick 8 that they like for voting in a system like this.
P.S. I chose beta cause alpha has a way overused saucer shape.
I'm sorry for asking for a LARGE Carrier. A carrier that is MEANT to look like it can HOLD Capacious Hangers. Huge Hangers. Large Hangers. Oh right, sorry for making out a point that for a Carrier to really be a carrier, it needs more than just 6 Fighters. That is just a rapid deployment, Oh hey! We need some fighters in this area! Send a Transport. Where the slow, and bulkiness of a Real Carrier would make it vulnerable. But, if people want to vote for a new Escort, let them. At least 6 Fighters coming from a ship the size of the Defiant is more Believable than 6 Fighters coming from a Dreadnought.
A small vessel deploying any fighters at all doesn't seem to be as believable for me. I think they could scale up the deployment of fighters by vessel size. Tiny starship: Satellites and turrets only. Small starship: 3 fighters. Medium starship: 6 fighters or 1 tiny starship. Large Starship(breen carrier): 12 fighters, 1 small starship or 3 tiny starships.
Huge Starship (Scimitar size): 18 fighters, 3 small starships or 6 tiny starships.
---
Wow. Suppose each of those starships had a compliment of fighters as well? 3 small starships coming out of a huge carrier would give you a decent wing - 3 ships and 9 independent fighters.
NEW KEY IDEAS TO CONSIDER (READ BELOW)--ALL T4-T6 SHIP OPTION to REFIT 3 Hangers.
Well remember the smallest ships to launch fighters/shuttles today are Escorts which are exclusively Tactical ships given their nature to load Cannons & Dual Cannons & have usually a Tactical Console preference already giving them a damage advantage. I think the FACT being forgetten by your statement is the T6 Atila Heavy Escort, T6 Romulan/Klingon equivalent is they have around 200 crew but aren't small by human standards either. They are in fact almost as perhaps 90% at least in profile if not volume to the Excelsior. The excelsior for almost 40 years was the largest starship in the Federation Fleet with a crew of 750 people unlike the Enterprise of the Kirk Generation Movies which generally had 550 crew. I'd argue none of these vessels are small by human standards -- and it's almost DEPRESSING the how small the RESOLUTE appears against MOGAI or it's T6 equvalent because it's internal volume appears far less despite a large crew compliment.
The THING I will advocate for is people WARMING up to the IDEA or CONCEPT of getting rid of CARRIER (because it sends the wrong message of having a 100 fighters/shuttles/runabout ships in different amounts inside coming out of a Dreadnought. 2 Hangers has been the tradition and depending up the pet: (a) fighters launch 2 wings (6) as do shuttles launch 2 wings (6)--remember fighters are more maneuverable, do higher DPS, but have less hull/shields than shuttles but shuttles have more hull/shields; (b) runabouts have similar hull/shields as shuttles but do higher damage which is why you only get 2 pair (4) per hanger. Klingons also have MICRO warbirds with a crew of 10 than launch called B'Rotlh Birds of Prey but are limited to (2) per hanger like on a Vo'quv Carrier. But there is nothing RESTRICTING you today to putting Fighters in one Bay, and Shuttles/Runabouts in the other:Klingons a Micro Ship.
That is how the mechanics are setup now but I AGREE that Fighters should be the ONLY thing to come out of smaller vessels with 250 CREW or less.
WHAT I HOPE TO ENCOURAGE IS MORE TO WARM UP TO MEDIUM SIZED CARRIERS
Crews of 450-750 with Medium - Larger Hulls.
Give them Science Preference with 3 Forward & 3 Rear / 4 Forward & 2 Rear weapons (6)
[-2 for bay offset]
Call them Light Carriers and give those 2 Hangers.
Allow us to pilot more nimble ships with higher turn rates but less tanky--but shield repair & science damage.
REFIT OPTION TO ALIGN CARRIER TO EXPECTATION for all T4-T6 Captains to: |
Crews of 999+ bigger vessels up to DREADNOUGHTS
Give them Engineering Preference with 3 Forward & 2 Rear / 4 Forward & 1 Rear (5)
[-3 for bay offset]
NOW CARRIER is a CARRIER give REFIT OPTION to all CARRIER CAPTAINS
All FULL Carriers including Vo'quv they loose 1 weapon & gain 1 HANGER (REFIT OPTION).
[bCOST for REFIT for T4-T6 Captains join FLEET 25K Fleet Credit & 15 DIL[/b]
Heavier Hulls, But less maneuverability--Offset by support from 3 Hangers.
There are no carriers in Star Trek, there is no mention ever made of them in anything but fan fiction, the carriers are all of the ships we are familiar with, every ship with a hanger can be equipped as a carrier and the larger ships can have enormous hangers.
Strathkin for your idea to work, I really think the fighter/hanger interface would need more functionality, giving the captain more control and relying less on automation.

If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
In honesty, I prefer the Delta Saucer, with the Beta Hull/Nacelles.
I don't really like that beak shape or whatever it is at the front of the Delta, I imagine it's an open tube with a navigation deflector in the middle of it. It looks like the same front end as that on the Alpha. I've made a game of finding all of the bits in these designs that are just copied and pasted to one another. If that's all they were going to do thinking these up, why didn't they let us pick the puzzle pieces?
Of course they did. They took designs of hulls/nacelles/saucers/etc. that they already have and incorporated them into these HECs.
That's the thing, where does it say these are HECs, we're supposed to be picking a Carrier, nowhere does it say HEC, these designs are misleading people.
The fact that they look in design and shape of an HEC or just Heavy Escort in general. And, since they didn't give any general dimensions of either ship. Nowhere, at all, did I say THEY told us these were HECs. I merely pointed the fact out that none of these designs even look big enough to be considered a cruiser

I prefer my Star Trek Online combat to feel a bit more like Star Trek combat. The SFX is already too much, but if we suddenly pretend that the moment ships get into fight, they launch a bunch of shuttles when that never happened on screen, I think you lost me.
All the shuttles aboard these ships are used a lot - look at your DOFF assignments - while your DOFFs are busy outside your ship, they use your shuttles. And that's what those shuttles are there - to shuttle people around. Not to blow up when the enemy fires at will.

This is not true. I am against starfighters and carrier battles in Star Trek as well, but one has to be fair, canonically carriers exist. The Kazon use a designated Carrier with attack ships. There is a Bajoran carrier in canon and the DS9 TM designates the Negh'Var as a "heavy carrier" but there is no mention wether "carrier" in Star Trek means "starfighter carrier". The Bajoran carrier is just a heavy transport ship and the Negh'Var can carry anything, her role as a command and control ship suggests ground troops as well as shuttles. In a possible future, the Vulcans would also use a "refitted dorsal carrier", but again no mention of starfighters. We have to keep in mind that Star Trek ship designations are not real-life or other universe's ship designations.
Add to that that shuttle sized ships have absolutely no role in ship-to-ship combat and have repeatedly shown to be useless.
So technically, and according to your point, sou are right and I support that stance. But your statement was technically not correct, either

Shouldn't the Alpha/Beta question have already been answered? I could have sworn the first round was supposed to end at Midnight PST on the 26th? Bring on the second round already!

How come you didnt vote? You know every vote counts!!!!
I have made it abundantly clear internally and now externally that I will not let people know my preference as I don't want to create a bias in the voting process. This is meant to be utterly and purely a voting by the community.
