You know, this weekend, It's an "attack", last weekend it was a "level three" problem that affected STO ONLY...

To be honest, I've been experiencing issues logging on EVERY weekend for some time now, (at least a month).

Call it whatever you want... But this speaks TO ME, of a bigger issue. Your servers are having problems on the weekends, when the server capacity increases, especially during your special little events.

At least THIS TIME, you are acknowledging it and actually posting something about it. But the trend is not going unnoticed.

Considering CO and Neverwinter are affected as well this time around... I don't think that's quite accurate to just peg it as server problems.

I had trouble logging into Steam after I was disconnected from STO. I'm don't know if it was related.

Ya know, it strikes me someone should have learned something from the last time this happened. Yet every time this happens, we go through the same old denial/ limited acknowledgement/ we're working on it cycle.

Is Tech Support or whomever is working on this afflicted with severe short term memory loss? Or are they not paid enough to care?

    A: Its the weekend.
B: could be from a different port than before.
C: Swarm tactics with zombie bots make it hard to pin down things.

Rattler, I'm not really an ignorant Redneck. I just play one on the forums. I knew all of what you posted before I hit the Send button.

My point is it appears there is no apparent plan or routine in place to at least try and deal with it. Because the perception I have is no one at Cryptic has been there long enough or gets paid enough to remember what happened the last time this occurred. Denial of Service attacks by bot networks are one of the oldest ways for someone to harass or shut down any online service or company. Surely by now, some smart guy somewhere has noticed they have a pattern?

the thing with the bot's is that Perfect world have no way of legally test the servers for DDoS stability even if they could they need a firewall that cost more than 40k USD on every server not that they don't have the money even then a server can get hammered by swarms with zombies its harder but not impossible

Ah, but we know Neverwinter was affected last time too, don't know about CO. That's how we got the information last time, from THEIR forums, since nobody on the STO side of things even acknowledged it.
    http://forum.arcgames.com/neverwinter/discussion/1203025/connection-issues-read-this-please

In regards to servers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we share servers with at least Neverwinter?

I mean, they ARE ATTACKING THE SERVERS and IT IS affecting ALL THE GAMES RIGHT ? :* So I could peg at least this incident as a SERVER problem........

    Latest from the STO forums.
A CO player reports the same issues, and actually had to visit the STO forums to find out what was going on. Its at least Cryptic wide.

You could be very well right about the servers, BUT more acurately, GAME STABILITY has been an ongoing issue on weekends, for some time now. I think that's a pretty fair statement.

I didn't imply you were. I just picked the way I said what I said because not everyone seems to understand all the variables in play. I mean, I saw someone just flat out say its just Cryptic covering up a failure, which is clearly a biased statement.

Level 3 went through their issues several weeks ago and that was also accompanied by other, unrelated, ISP issues which coincidentally hit around the same time (and only affected a small portion of the player base). TRIBBLE happens.

BTW, for the rest of y'all watching this thread I just tried STO. Made it about a minute before a sudden disconnect. That means, there's still no real gameplay to be had but if you've got to log into check doffs and dilithium refining then you should be able to check in for the day (assuming that individual experience doesn't vary too much and you can actually get onto the game).

Just heard from a friend that XBox Neverwinter is getting hammered so... that may have nuked the "Only because they're on the same server" theory.

If that's not enough you can also try the tracert test on cryptic's patch servers. You won't always get the same one.

I think this falls under the same crazy theory that, for example, making more episodic missions prevents cryptic from doing more to fix bugs. There's more than one dev working on the game, and there's probably more than one server keeping all this stuff going. They may be part of a related infrastructure, but oversimplifying isn't likely to bring greater understanding or improve your ability to cope with downtime.

Well... some people look for any excuse to blame Cryptic, even if the problem isn't their fault.

I think it varies. The servers are still going and can cope with some load but they may not be able to function as well for all people. Some might not be seeing any issues, others may see stuff happen intermittently (which is what I'm experiencing), and there may still be others who can't log in at all.

To explain why each person falls into each group would probably take a network engineer working in cryptic. For the lay man we can just assume that the complicated techno-magic is only working somewhat well right now (and on average is probably a bit less reliable now than it generally is.)

they went after neverwinter according to the twits twitters who are allegedly behind it. I politely told them where they could fly (well not politely but I didn't want him to have his mom for her speak and spell again so kept it civil. sto was just on the same server rack same company so got hammered. these people are just script kiddies trying to make a name why I am not advertising the twinks. cryptic knows who they are (if not google is a great resource ;) as I told them give us the twits IP rangers and this event will stop in about 30 minutes after that.

I take the employee word on this issue, but it's just a more severe form of the usual problem.

I often can't login or get disconnected on this game to the point I did not figure out today was different until I came in this topic.

So aside from this particular case, there is a persistent problem with server stability everyone knows of which don't get enough attention.

In this particular case we were during a triple bonus event, so we would appreciate a day of extension after the problem ceases to exist.
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told

Just lost connection twice in rapid succession, restarting game and trying again.

Edit: so far so good, but exchange is a bit slower than usual right now.

Funny thing is, this jag-off is claiming some responsibility for the attacks and it's directed at neverwinter. Of course, if STO wasn't on the same server, it wouldn't be an issue for us.
