Yes, the new power effects over the last 4 half seasons or so, not RSP, need to be toned down. It's gotten to be too much for me.

RSP itself is not an issue, its the combination of RSP with all of the other shield procs I have going on that make turn me into a glowing ball of light. So a bit of clarity, as a stand alone RSP is not over the top but it just mixes poorly with shield effects.
If you get enough people and enemies in one space shooting things at each other, my FPS drops to single digits. Group content is getting close to unplayable because you can't turn any of this stuff off. Make it a personal toggle. Just because it's stuffing my game's face into the dirt doesn't mean everyone should lose it. Just let me turn it way down or mostly off.
I voted no, but there's some I'd like to see upgraded rather than having some of the flashier stuff scaled down. Warp core breaches, the derelict ship plasma fires someone else mentioned, and other older effects could use a boost.
The only thing that might be a bit over the top is destabilizing resonance beam, but only when its used up close. When used past a certain distance, it's actually just fine, so maybe that "version" of its effect should apply for close-up use as well.
And finally, the rate of fire is just fine. Slowing it down or reducing it would make gameplay feel a lot less interesting.
I would just like to see the engine updated to better handle all the visuals so all the pretty fireworks aren't constantly blipping in and out of existence due to how many there are in missions like Crystalline catastrophe as an example.
The firing cycles are way too fast compared to those seen in the various series and movies. There are enough glowing sparkly things on the ships without making most of the buttons you click during combat create yet another eye candy extravaganza. And with all the complaints pertaining to lag, maybe toning some of the visuals down would speed things up a bit.
Most of the powers FX I don't mind, but a lot of the weapon and trait effects are far to "busy" and just make the game look ugly and cartoonish. Weapon effect scaling is far to high in any number of cases with several making it near impossible to see what's going on, more so in combination. I remember the argument was made before that you need to be able to see when powers etc activate (more so in PVP, but then we don't really have that anymore :P) but it's getting a bit over the top now IMO.
I'd love the ability to at least turn off trait and gear "always on" special FX in the same way you can disable Reputation Set graphics, especially the flashier stuff that turns your character and ship into a '70s disco show Even if it's only client-side.
Some days I can't even see my ship with all the overblown visuals. Sometimes I get headaches from it. On top of that, I just think it looks bad. All these flashing ships and whatnot. Looks ridiculous. Give me the option to turn all that junk off like the shield rings and sector space grid and I'll be set.

Oh please yes. I love pretty effects but sometimes its far too much. Space and Ground. In ground sometimes even more annoying when a cut-scene stats directly after combat & my char is still lit up like a Christmas tree with several lingering visual effects.
The weapon and shield effects are fine. Most of the targeted ability effects are fine (even the Destabilizing Resonance Beam). It's the buff and trait effects that clutter the screen and stop you from seeing your own ship.
I know I have the Energy Refrequencer trait on, you don't have to envelop my ship in a green tornado every time I shoot to remind me. Or the bazillion other buff/passive effects. I don't even know what some of them are, they just flash around my ship all the time.

I guess they could call it "Realism mode", so less flashy graphics to make it look more like what we see in the movies and TV shows.
