Has STO's costume designer started to work for the new movie production team by any chance?
I think the new landing party uniforms are very reminiscent of some Cryptic designs, I whipped something together to compare them.
WOOOW,, I actually LIKE the new JJTrek Uniforms! Perhaps we should call is JL Trek since JJ isn't directing, Justin Lin is. I have to say ive been purposely keeping away from rumors and pics of the new Trek Movie because I WANT to like it! Justin Lin is a GREAT director, in my opinion, In the F&F series he relied more on practical effects than most directors nowadays, and ANYTHING that can be done FOR REAL is GOOD! Here's hoping Star Trek:Beyond is the best trek movie EVER, makes $1 billion and keeps trek going for many years to come!

Based on the greenscreen in the picture, I think this is likely intended as something similar to the Odyssey Tactical variant, a practical field-use uniform (compare US Navy working uniform) instead of a shipboard service/casual-dress uniform (compare US Navy service khakis). Notice the practical, comfortable fit, kneepads, shin-guards, and this nifty little invention called pockets.
Can't speak for other people, but I just use the term for convenience as a way to distinguish the alternate reality from the prime universe. "JJtrek" is shorter than "alternate reality".

So basically kinda like a lighter version of the field jacket we saw in Wrath of Khan?

Why not just shorten it to AR then? To me its still Star Trek, but when referring to individual elements like the Enterprise, I throw the AR in to identify it as being from teh new movies. So the "JJprise" becomes the "AR Enteprise" or AR Connie.
Besides... Slapping JJ on the front kinda turns it into an insult.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Yes, exactly. Or like this guy:
Point being, it's designed for outdoorsyness: to provide comfort and protection on away missions or in combat, rather than to look pretty for staff meetings.

You could be talking about some other alternate reality or timeline. But mention J.J. Abrams and everybody immediately knows that you're talking about the 2009 movie trilogy.

There's really only two established alternate realities. Mirror Universe and the new movies. All the others are one off instances.
People mention Mirror Universe, they know. Sure they also know instantly what you're referring to with the JJ, but for the most part a lot of people use it as a way to insult the new movies because "Its not Star Trek, its JJTrek". Basically its their way of seperating it from Star Trek entirely.

Well, I don't: I actually liked the '09 Star Trek, lens flares included (though the contrived coincidences bug me as a writer and Kirk getting the Enterprise at the end is ridiculous).
And for people who think it's not Star Trek? Here's what cements it as Star Trek for me. Alt!Kirk has the bad guy who's killed billions of people, including his own father, dead to rights, trapped with no hope of escape, and just like his prime universe counterpart did with the Gorn in "Arena", and just like Odo did with the female Founder in "What You Leave Behind", he offers mercy.

That's why I call it nuTrek. I think of it as a separate universe akin to Mirror, but with less goatees.

I actually like it too. Don't know if I've mentioned this or not, but at first I wasn't a fan of the new Enterprise design. But then the scene with her popping up out of Titan came up and I was like "aw cool".
It may not be like the original, but its not meant to be. Its relevant to today without looking retro. And it put Star Trek back on the map so to speak.

Since its a Star Trek Reboot. And since JJ was the main one doing it. Therefore it will be forever called JJ Trek. To many who don't like it, its not Star Trek. Even myself don't even call it Star Trek. I see it more of a Spoof Trek.

You weren't going to see it anyway, farm, because it's not TNG. You only needed to tell us once.
The '09 movie was pretty good - a fair exploration of how Jim could have turned out with a totally different childhood. I would have like a montage at the end of Kirk rising in rank and reporting to different ships, until at the end Capt. Kirk takes command of Enterprise, but then I didn't get to write it, so...
Into Dorkness started choking on its own fanservice bits and mistook "Treknobabble" for "who cares about science?" (hint: Treknobabble doesn't contradict known physics, instead they make up new particles). Thank the Bird, the new one won't be written or directed by Orci. (Given a choice between the man who wrote Transformers: Dark of the Moon and the man who wrote Shaun of the Dead, I'll take Shaun, thanks.)

I rather have a DS9 or Voyager movie. I liked those shows. A Voyager movie could told what happened to the crew afterwards. They could look at STO itself, and made a movie off one of the stories. There is some good ones from this game to do a movie. They could start with finding the gate way, some delta action, a little rewritten and you have an Iconian trilogy.
Even though a different person is doing it. Its still JJ Spoof Trek since its following his footsteps he created.

Really? You aught to tell the makers of the photon torpedoes or tachyon cloaks, or Starship engines that run on Di-lithium (or just lithium). Or when VOY punches a hole in the Event Horizon using technobabble, or even utilising gravitons like a Swiss army particle.

I like all aspects of Star Trek. I love TOS. Thats what I grew up on. I grew to like TNG. DS9 I really enjoyed because it was a departure from being on a starship. Voyager I tolerated but it had it's good points. Enterprise had promise but it had some good points.
I like the alternate universe. I like that someone decided to update the terminology to make it more advanced than ours. I am writing a fan fic about my characters and one of the reasons why I set them in the Alt universe is the treknology is more advanced. It was frustrating to me to write about characters in the TOS...on my iPad that was more advanced than TOS and TNG PADD's and that my smart phone was more advanced than TOS communicators.
The other aspect of the alt universe I like is that it's not beholden to anything else.

Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
You can debate the merits of the plot of either of Abrams' films (and he's still producing Beyond, by the way, so people can stop celebrating that he's gone from the franchise)... but, to say that his films are not Star Trek is laughable. Go ahead and continue to think that, and drive this franchise into the ground.

Anyone notice that the uniform Simon Pegg wears in the leaked stuff (brighter red, slate pants) kinda looks like the Antares uniform? Either #2 or #3, can't remember... and, of course, not the glossy/leather look. MOAR STO CROSSOVER!
Photon torpedoes do release photons when they explode - along with a buttload of other elementary particles, of course.
And there are no tachyon cloaks. There are tachyon detection grids, which are never explained in-show but physics says must operate by telling you where something is about to be (as the signal you get in Einsteinian space-time would be entropy-reversed, meaning it's coming from a few moments in the future).
However, when they need a particle to do what no particle actually does, you get tetryon cascades and the like.

Yes, but they aren't called Lepton torpedoes, or neutron torpedoes, they are 'photon' torpedoes, meaning the photons are responsible for he explosion. Romulan cloaks gives of tachyons, I sure they do that's what the grid detects.

But... Photon sounds cool.
And how do you explain Quantum Torpedoes? They are either a plasma based warhead (according to Memory Alpha) or involving some 11 dimensional space-time... thing (if you go by the SFC3 book).

I actually don't intend it as an insult. While the movies may not have performed to Paramounts expectations, they could have been FAR FAR worse. JJ Abrams' biggest problem,, Imo,, is Robert Orci. I'm not a professional writer by any means, I have dabbled in creative writing and my head-fic is epic at times, however Orci just doesn't seem to know how to put any REAL twists, or unexpected events into his stories. Yes, there are exceptions, however,, not many that I have seen.
I have to admit credit MUST be given to Abrams for bringing Trek back into the mainstream, and possibly keeping the universe alive for all intent and purposes. Ive watched the behind the scenes from Trek 09 and a couple of interviews from other shows with Abrams, and he seemed to enjoy the material, but at the same time he had kind of a
" Its just another directing job." Attitude about him. After reading that he's also bailing on Star Wars, it kind of makes ya wonder what goes on in his head sometimes.
I'm really pulling for Justin Lin to give us a Trek that's both Original, AND true to the soul of what made trek awesome. I'm actually just hoping its not going to be "Star Trek: Beyond The Search for the Undiscovered Country while on a voyage to the Final Frontier"

If the Romulan cloak emits tachyons, that presents interesting conjectures as to how it operates and whether it's at all related to Krenim temporal-manipulation technology...
