I have always thought Future Guy would pop up in STO. No likeness issues. And with all the talk about him being Romulan, well, a Romulan would have motive to muck with the timeline.
I am aware the novels have one version of him as being a hybrid of several races.
And Brannon Braga (who previously floated the Romulan plan at a con) has gone rogue from that point and now said Future Guy was Jonathan Archer, still alive in the 28th century after having been rendered immortal by Suliban genetic enhancements.
With talk of STO using a canon enemy never before seen in STO, Future Guy seems like a likely contender. I could accept the Romulan idea or even something like him being Daniels or Braxton. I'm less crazy about him being 28th century immortal Jonathan Archer or a four way species hybrid guy.

One consistent thing said is that the silhouette and voice MAY NOT have been Future Guy's own but may have been a disguise/decoy. Although I'd prefer it if it were actually his silhouette and voice, for simplicity's sake (and that favors the Romulan theory). No need to overcomplicate a callback to a show that ended over 10 years ago.
In a case like this (where the mystery is all we have and it isn't being paid off in the plot arc it was originally contained in) Cryptic needs to leave well enough alone. We can do the temporal shenanigans, just don't ruin a good thing.

Yes, I know where they are now... but like any other sentient species they can choose to do something different.

Most likely it will be a Dilithium unlock (past holdings have had RP-ish unlock rooms before: Starbase Meeting Room, Second Floor of the Mine, The Mess Hall in the Embassy, and the Command Room for the Spire)
I only visited the new holding one time and we are currently running the tier 2 upgrades.
Yes I noticed that inaccessible room on the minimal as well. Why? Because the UI identified an hostile target in there.
It was a Jem’hadar…

Anyhow, I hated the idea of Archer being "Future Guy", because ultimately it doesn't make any sense. Why would Archer go into the future in trying to thwart his past self and help the Romulans start covert take over of Vulcan? It makes zero sense!
I always liked the Idea of Future Guy being a Romulan. Because if you think about it, it makes a ton more sense than Bragga's idea of him being Archer. WHY? Because it fits perfectly with the destruction of Romulus! Future Guy ends up being a surviving Romulan Imperial who holds a grudge against the Federation's "lack of help" during the Hobus Supernova and vows to change history. That's why he targetted Archer, to stop the creation of the Federation. Then later shifted his target to the Vulcans in helping the Romulans annex their former home world, which would indirectly prevent the Federation from ever gaining momentum.
I'm sticking with him being a Romulan. And sure, I'd be interested to see him in STO. As for this cannon enemy we're meant to be getting, based on her visual appearance in the Butterfly episode, I'd say it's the sphere builders. That's who my mind instantly jumped to.
A Romulan Strike Team, Missing Farmers and an ancient base on a Klingon Border world. But what connects them? Find out in my First Foundary mission: 'The Jeroan Farmer Escapade'
Possibly keeping himself alive by feeding off the corpses of that whole civilzation he and Phlox murdered.
