So I'm playing STO on my lunch hour and suddenly the game locks up. No big deal, it happens once in a rare while so I reboot my PC and go to log back in but it gets stuck early in the login and shows:

Attempting to connect to controller tracker..

I'm rather tech savvy, I ran a few traceroutes and pings and there are no connectivity issues with my ISP or Cryptic's servers. What can I do to fix this? I googled it and there are a handful of threads started with the usual un-install/re-install and "must be a problem with your connection" canned answers but nothing of use.

    It would seem patience is what I needed. I took some time between log in attempts and it eventually let me back in. I'm running a forced verify now in order to make sure the software on my PC is all current and correct.

    Used force verify to get through, although I'm not sure if that was the solution or something on their end was cleared up.

    run cmd.

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    Also got it for Star Trek Online so I gave up after 2 try a few minute each and loged into Champions Online what worked without problem.

    Cryptic has several controllertrackers but they all resolve either to 208.95.185.166 or 208.95.185.169. Right now .166 doesn't respond but .169 does. It seems the launcher tries .166 only, at least for as long as I've waited. It would stand to reason that the launcher should jump between the available controllertrackers much more quickly if one is unresponsive.

    EDIT: Adding the working IP address to my hosts file allows me to logon properly.

    The cmd fix didn't work for me unfortunately.

    However! I discovered this by accident. Get the Arc launcher to try and open up a second game launch window. This one should allow you to enter all you details and should allow you to play.

    Been having trouble with my launcher since the last maintenance. Launcher seems to take longer and longer to log in!
