The Akira-class starship has always proven itself to be a formidable ship. This Heavy Escort is as effective as it is deadly. But with the arrival of our newest lineup of Heavy Escort Carriers, our engineers felt it necessary to give this iconic ship the update it deserves.

You can click on the left part of the bottom image to actually scroll through different shots of the new Akira-class. If you click on the ship itself, you'll be able to enjoy a 1920x1080 shot of the ship. How cool, eh? :D

    This is great! My current T5-U Armitage uses Akira parts, my ship will look even hotter! :p

    This update is only the Akira pieces, though, correct? Not the Zephyr or Oslo? (Not complaining, I rarely use pieces from those ship models anyway lol)

    I am loving the time spent updating the original gotta-get-the-game-out-the-door iconic ship models. Even if players don't use them, it adds a lot of authenticity to the game via the NPC ships. Nice job guys, keep up the great work.

    If I may be allowed a related topic...

    The Klingon Qatel-class is based off the Qin, which some people have a problem with (the infamous "pivot point issue"). It seems like some people don't experience the issue (I never did in my time in a Qin), which always led me to believe it's a perceptual thing: some people see the picture as a vase, some people see two faces, that sort of thing.

    In the Qatel's design, was anything done to address this issue?

    Yeah, bet it'll look real amazing with the rest of those ships in the background in the episode Broken Circle. Oh wait, it's just a skybox background because this game's engine is equivalent to that of a Nintendo Gamecube!

    Hey, @pwlaughingtrendy, does this mean polishing up ships upon T6 releases is now a thing?

    And if so will the B'rel will finally get a polish when it releases?

    The Bird-of-Prey is supposed to have a yellow and red over/under impulse and warp drive... those two things on the wings shouldn't even exist. And since the second option for windows was added, they've never worked right on the B'rel, no matter what window option you choose, the "head" of the Bird still shows the first type of windows...

    I don't think there's been another ship in the game that's been as blatantly messed up as the B'rel.

    I was about to eat my words and apologize but the model still has the error that makes me so sad when I fly it. The shape of the back of the hull is wrong, on the two canon models it gets thinner when meeting the nacelle pylons.

    That said the new detail work is nice, even if it is adding things the canon model never had.

    That is a thing of beauty but the design always has been.

    Question are there any plans to update the Nebula Class and tell Geko we want a New Orleans Class in this game, If it is just a skin to unlock on an already existing ship i think the Scryer would be a choice

    this game , in case you forgot , has cannons . Cannon (definition) a underpowered energy weapon that can't be used with FAW. Its main purpose is to spit small balls.
    The Akira , i like it , good job guys :) i might buy the T6 version ,even if im interested only in sci-ships(hint)

    I'd say the B'rel is significantly worse. 2/3rds of it's engines shouldn't exist. When the K'tinga has four more nacelles littered around it's model for no apparent reason, and the Gal-X has a couple extra lances bolted on instead of one just slightly off-center then they can have a word with me...

    And that's not including the minor modeling errors like missing parts to the cannons, head shape being off, wing shape being off, etc. nor the obvious windows issue, or the complete and total lack of the yellow warp drive which should be sitting under the current red impulse engine... the addition of the two extra wing engines which shouldn't even exist alone stands out more than any other modeling error the game has ever seen.

    Nice, I use Akira parts on my Armitage and Thunderchild ships (and probably will on the new T6 HEC, too), so this is good...

    One question; is this active now or is it going active when the new T6 Escort Carrier Pack comes out?

    The off-center items on the Galaxy were accurate to the studio model. There are photos out there of it that show exactly the same issues, and they modeled the ship accurately off of it rather than mess with canon.

    Of course, the model was completely re-done and greatly improved for the Blu-Ray release (if you haven't seen it, you need to - the thing looks incredible), so when they do the T6 dreadnoughts we can hopefully look forward to the same treatment in game.
