Are the Dev's scared of offending us?

I used to run my own server some years ago. Occasionally I would introduce a "super" mob that was virtually un beatable. As a DM I watched my favorite players die time and time again. But this made them all the more determined to aquire the special equipment needed to combat said "super mob" . I have to say after a couple of years build up ,telling me just how all powerfull the Iconians are, I feel a bit cheated. Frankly they are a push over so far. These "immortals" should be wiping the floor with us. By now they should at least have gained control of New Romulas ,Qo'nos and Earth. We should be retreating back to somewhere like DS9 or something. I feel the Dev's are scared we will find unbeatable enemies a bit "off putting". I think we should be getting a good hiding here ,but we are not. They should make these mobs almost impossible to beat without specially aquired gear. Then let us aquire it. Anyone elses thoughts on these dissapointining Iconians?

Most idiots in the game can't even beat "advanced" mobs, much less "elite". There would be rivers of tears if wallet warriors couldn't wipe out the entire Iconian race by themselves.

I don't know about specific gear but without an even basic builds I'm sure the Iconians are nasty. Then again I play on advanced... I think I could get through normal with just my weapons firing.

As far as the Iconians wiping the floor with us, I agree they should but then again, the battle would look a lot different if either side was capable of even basic strategy.

As a final note, the devs don't seem to be afraid of offending us... You need only look to the remnants of the pvp community for evidence of that.

I don't think the devs are or should be concerned about anyone or anything on the forums. No matter what they do there is backlash and moaning and whining, so why care at all?

Unfortunately this is true. They change something... complain. They don't change something... complain. They add something... complain. They DON'T add something... complain.

Although I do hear its worse in the Neverwinter neighborhood. Someone once said it was ALWAYS DR level rage over there.

I understand your point, tenada, but we need to think about some of the first things we learn about Iconians in Trek canon. They're introduced as a fallen empire, believed to have been defeated by an alliance of those they subjugated. Before their interference with STO lore became clear in the early game, all we knew about them was that they had ridiculously advanced teleportation technology and were beatable. By the time we met our first Iconian, they'd already manipulated us into forming an alliance of the sort that defeated them before, albeit weakened by about a year of wasteful infighting and dealing with the Undine.

The Iconians are beatable, by people like us. The war should be hard, but it was never* a foregone conclusion.

*Fact that, on a meta-level, the alliance can't lose without essentially ending the MMO non-withstanding.

When you say wallet warriors, are you referring to people who have jobs that do not involve inquiring of a customer's desire to consume deep fried tubers?

Which, instead of being referred to as "our magnificent benefactors," are referred to by the derogatory term "whales," despite the fact that whales are awesome.

Well, any release since S9.5 was an insult, so I don't think they are scared of anything...best game ever and the players love it.

Why do you assume I'm playing for free? I have T6 ships because they're fun. I was referring to people who sink tons of money into the game but still fail at easy mode. I would *love* to have a difficulty mode harder than Elite. I posted a thread awhile ago about a higher difficulty level but people whined that the game was too difficult already - even with their T6 ships and epic everything.

    Are you one of them?

Of course we fear unbeatable enemies... see how many people complain when the STF Borg missions get buffed by accident

Imagine in a different universe STO might be a game like "birth of the federation" where us players captain's are the little ships exploring, building outposts for our factions, trading, seeking alliances and combat factions that are currently at war with us. And then, suddenly, a Borg cube strifes through the territory and dozens of players across factions unite and rally and try to stop it, again and again - that was what the OP made me think of pig-1.gif

Have you tried not using T6 ships with gold MK XIV gear?
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Well..just the way you used the "Wallet Warriors" term. Came off as somewhat resentful of people who spend money on the game.

Am I one of them ? No sir, I do pretty well for myself.

The problem with MMO player bases is that they aren't a community as such, more a collection of communities - all of which have their own ideas of what the game should be and how it should play. Like others have said no matter what they do someone's toes will be stepped on, and they will yap the loudest because of it.
