The only mistake Goa'uld did was being written by dumb screenplay writers. "Stargate" series was plagued by plot-holes and deus ex machine plot twists.
The whole "wise humans bringing light and freedom to poor dumb aliens" agenda, which was constantly recurring on the show, was outright idiotic.
Had to drop the show after seeing where it headed - stupid ebil parasites easily defeated by allmighty humanity. A species that had ruled over the galaxy for thousands of years stomped by a race, who some years before that has trouble reaching their own moon - yeah, right totally believable.
(In the original movie victory over Ra was achieved more by chance and luck - and that was appropriate when fighting a much more developed alien).
Oh well, Stargate for me is amazing. I dont care about the writting, actually, most of the modern sci fic shows (if not all of em) have poorly written plots. In fact, i wish some of the new sci fic shows were like Stargate was, at least they will have a minimum enjoyment quality. Stargate was full of great characters, action, humor, and a lot of things that made that show great until season 7. Seasons 8-10 were just an "add on" to "try" to finish the show in the better possible way. But it failed. Still, it is one of the most claimed series of all times. Some seasons were better than others, some episodes were amazing and some others were "meh", but like any show out there. It wasnt a good (talking about general quality) tv show, but it was really enjoyable, and that was i value the most. Other shows that last for a lot of seasons (it comes to my mind smallville, for example) are the most horrible written shows ive ever seen, but you know, we are a lot of people living in this planet.
