Hey, Dulmer. Your looking more depressed then usual. Something happen? Hey Lucsly. Hand me that saurian brandy will you?. Off the temporal contraband shelf. It's not needed as evidence anymore and I need a drink. Our "friend" came to visit again.
Lucsly frowned, and then picked up the bottle. He stared at the bottle for a moment with it ancient and faded label from 4 years in the future. One dumb Rigellian he thought. sling shotted 50 years into the future just to get a handle on the long term spirits markets, and now he gets to spend the next 40 years in a stasis cell until he catches up to the future he saw. He'd served this at a party celebrating a massive profit taking in the market. Bad move. Lucsly deftly removed the seal from the bottle, and poured two glasses. Dulmer looked over cocking his head. "Planning ahead?" The corner of Lucsly mouth quirked up for just a moment. "You did say our friend came to visit again. Tell me about it."
"First off, he's not quite the same friend, though he appears utterly identical, and he didn't come in person this time either. He says we have a problem... a very bad problem. Its with how we are about to fight the Iconian war." Dulmer took a long pull off his drink. Lucsly eyes widened slightly "I assume he just had to give you the details?" Dulmer carefully set the glass down. "You know, this stuff is really horrid tasting. Yes he did, and in great detail. Far to much detail. For now I'd like you to not hear the details from me" He looked to Lucsly. "Something that we do, well, that some one does, is going to create a temporal multi point parallel incursion. His data says that it effects not just our own galaxy, the entire universe is effected. He calls it a time crash. The survivors are remnants of the starfleet and other races that were in subspace when it happened. They can send automated probes out, but anyone living that exits to normal space looses all knowledge of where they just came from. no nothing. The computers and ships records remember, but only until they get accessed, and then they also revert to the current temporal fix, and that fix is entirely different from what should be the current reality. Thankfully he chose not to go into any detail there. He just said we definitely would not like it. There's data's on the Tesseract device on the work table over there. It's from the survivors, not from him. I think you better look at it. I don't trust myself on this."
Lucsly nodded and moved to the worktable in question. This Tesseract device was different then any he's seen before. Crude workmanship was evidenced. The sensors embedded within the work table reported a stable chroniton field shielding the inner working from time-space in this universe. Beyond a small touch plate, and a holo emitter array on the top of the device there was nothing overly remarkable about the device other then the very crude workmanship and finish on the exterior of the device. He touched the space on the touch pad with a single dot. The holo emitter section of the device raised up several centimeters above the device, turned in place and glowed to life.
A life sized figure appeared. "I am not an EMH, I just look like one." " the hologram looked over at Dulmer who once again had the glass of saurian brandy in hand. it looked back to Lucsly. "I am here to answer question as I told your partner there. My programming is rather limited as I am a partial copy of a EMH mark 1. I am non sentient, but the longer I am activated, the more likely I will become sentient. If I should become sentient I will no longer be able to access the data I have. You will have just over 22 hours of activity assuming you left me continuously activated from.. now." Lucsly considered a moment. "Will you recall details of conversation from previous activations?" The Hologram nodded "Yes, but be aware the more interaction I have with living sentients, the more witnessing of your interactions, can significantly reduce the time to sentience." "How do I turn you off?" Lucsly asked. The hologram pointed at the device. "The same way you activated me." Lucsly turned to the hologram. "I'm turning you off now" He reached out his hand and tapped the single dot icon on the device. The hologram disappeared, and the emitter dropped back down to its starting position on the device.
Dulmer looked up from his glass. "More Brandy?"
((Note: I have not read any of the DTI stories.. I understand there are a few! Dulmer and Lucsly were to me an obvious homage to the characters of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday, and his partner Officer Bill Gannon of the Dragnet TV series 1951-1959, and syndicated well into the 70's. I hope I didn't muck up the characterizations for any of you. They're not my characters, I'm just borrowing them! I'm just seeing if I still know how to write a one page short story.))

"I don't know," Bob said. "Seems a bit odd."
"You never liked the taste anyways," Steve replied.
I'm actually a fanfic author myself, and I appreciate getting constructive feedback in my works, so... I provide constructive feedback to you as a fellow author.
And based on the names, I'm more inclined to think of Mulder and Scully from X-Files.
Lucsly said nothing. He reached over and grabbed a PADD. moments later he set it down. "We can hop a warp shuttle.
There a courier scheduled out for Deep Space 9 in about 20 minutes. We have the authority to hold the shuttle until we can get aboard." Dulmer stood and grabbed his flight bag. "Last time we talked to him didn't tell us much of anything, other then he was " quote: seriously unconcerned about what we thought of the current situation, unquote. Assuming current has any meaning for him any more." Lucsly grabbed his own flight bag. "I suspect he won't be able to not get involved in this. He is still officially a star fleet officer. We might want to bring that up, and bring the device." Dulmer nodded and grabbed the device off the work table. A few other odds and ends were gathered by the two partners. Lucsly set the security system as he left, and activated the magnetic shield to secure against beam in.
A quarter hour later an automated courier warp shuttle edged carefully out of a small shielded bay off Space Docks security levels. aligned itself to a specific star with finicky precision, and warped out of the system.
Both really.. Scully and Mulder had the same sort of chemistry. I'm more like to identify with the Dragnet duo, possibly due to my age.
Good advice. If I remember it, I'll put it to use, but no promises.
