STO Network Upgrades 6/23/15

in Galactic News Network [PC]
Tomorrow we will be performing upgrades to our network. Starting at 6am PDT, Holodeck will be temporarily unavailable for 3 hours. We'll be making some changes that will help increase the effectiveness of the network. Go away lag, hyah'!

    So... I saw on the Neverwinter forums that the games themselves might not be down for the whole time, but will be a wee bit laggy..... Is this true in any way? :3

    Hmm. Is this just network latency, or are there FPS fixes in the pipe too?

    so now we are coments like facebook instead of forum posts? Hopefully this upgrade makes alot of stuff work better. and hopefully new equipment means that it has never been programmed to pass through their old isp congent.

    It's a move in the right direction ;) We knew that part of the lag was internal hardware, part software. Here's hoping!

    OOOOOO - My first post. I feel all fresh and new.

    Now how the heck do I add my signature.....

    Please tell me that in addition to lag it will also do something about rubber-banding, please? It's becoming such a problem lately to suddenly get jerked back three or five meters away from an interact, especially when hunting horga'hn or building sandcastles...

    Improving lag issues should make that better but it also depends on your connection. The reason it happens is the server is the "master" of where you and everything is. But the game will send your key presses etc to the server and then predict where you should be (and everything else) on it's own and display that to you. The server will send back where you actually are and what you're doing given the info it's received so far from your client. So when you jump around, it's because the game moved you further etc than the server says you should have moved. From my experience with this, the game actually does a very good job. I only sometimes get some jumping around and I'm pretty sure it's due to my internet which is glitchy at times.

    Well, here's hoping... I've been seeing a lot of disconnects of late, and I'd be quite happy if they stopped.

    (Also, I will be interested to know if I can finally post to the new forum. Let's see.)

    Don't make promises you can't keep. If it does work however it's a nice early B-day gift.
    This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    Hell yeah, I wish they had done this back in Delta Rising, there were times the game was literally unplayable from the lag back then.

    Wish we'd hear about them beforehand. And, no, less than 12 hours isn't beforehand.

    Then that's probably because you live near the servers or your ISP has lots of coverage, either that or you're on a Gigabit Network.

    So I go to log in this morning only to find there is maintenance. The message on the launcher says to check the forums, so I do. Couldn't find any announcement initially so I went to Facebook and found out what was going on there. I came back to the forums and after looking around for 5 minutes I finally find this thread and learned exactly why there is downtime.

    I don't mind the downtime so much as the fact it's completely out of the blue. No notification at all. Well, I guess technically there was, but it wasn't easy to find.

    I really miss the old forums, important stuff like this tended to stay near the top. Or at the very least was a LOT easier to find. Cruddy search function, no Dev Tracker (that I've found) and just an overall lack of anything remotely pointing towards important issues or down times makes me wish for the old forums back.

    I keep wanting to give these new forums a chance but they are just such a pain to use.

    Trendy mentioned in another thread that she is trying/asking for Dev tracker on this new forum. Till they do, I find the STO Redit quite handy. Anything really important usually shows up there.

    Since last week Maintenance the Lags come back! Last 3 Weeks before was very good, NO LAGS! After last week Maintenance the same results!
    In hope that you Guys will fix that otherwise no more money and many people quitt here :p
