Admiral variants on costumes

fomobretfomobret Member Posts: 7 Arc User
Hello,

As you all know, a fed character can be promoted six times. Half of those six are the Admiral ranks. It is very frustrating, confusing, and perhaps the Vulcans would call it illogical, that there are so very few Admiral variants of the uniforms. The only two I could ever find is the one that came with the Deep Space Nine pack, and those hideous Seasons 1 and 2 of TNG Admiral uni's.

Having gold piping or braid on a flag officer's uniform is a tradition that dates back literally centuries, a tradition practiced by most (if not all) governments with navies. If you look carefully, each and every incarnation of Trek (except the Abrams abominations) celebrates and practices this tradition by putting some sort of gold braid or piping on each and every Admiral character they've ever had on the show/in the movies.

Can someone with the power please correct this glaring omission and please include Admiral variants in the costume packs? Thanks in advance.

PS: I guess the forums are still at least partially broken. I am a STO user, not a Neverwinter user, and I am a lifetime subscriber to my username should be in blue.

There's a 'Vice Admiral' coat available for free upon reaching VA (level 50) which allows gold/yellow 'braid' as trim, there's a long-coat version of the Odyssey uniform (same one Admiral Quinn and Admiral Tuvok wear) for paid subscribers, the C-Store "Mirror Enterprise" top for males had some very nice epulet-wrist braiding combinations once you start hitting Admiral rank, the Odyssey uniform itself is designed so that the thinner 'trim' stripes along the chest stripe and collar can be gold (as seen in the Dev Blog when the Odyssey became the standard uniform), the TOS dress uniforms come with gold trim...

There's plenty of uniform options that do what you're talking about, a player only needs to play around a little in the tailor.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

I managed to play with the DS9 uniform and made a decent mockup of the TNG Admiral's uniform.

    Not PERFECT, but passable.

All right, perhaps I didn't express myself well. I am sorry about that. I'll get more details and specific this time around, in hopes that someone in charge of the game sees my post and knows what I'm talking about.

I was referring to the canon uniforms for Federation characters. And, I wasn't referring to the dress uni's, I was referring to the "business casual", our "everyday" uniforms. It is just frustrating to spend $5.50 on a canon uniform out of rabid fandom and then have it inaccurate after the fourth promotion.

I've done a little research, and will go in order to show you what I'm talking about.

Here's the Enterprise era's Admiral uniform. Please note the trim around the shoulders. It may not be gold, but it is definitely different from what Captains and below wear. Additionally, this is not a flight suit but more of a suit coat. Note the tie.

Here is the Enterprise Mirror Universe Admiral uniform. It also has the shiny trim to differentiate itself from non-flag officers:

Now we get to the Original Series era. I have to admit: in this case I stand corrected. I was only able to find one Admiral uniform that wasn't dress, and it seemed to be the same as everyone else's save for more elaborately decorated rank insignia

I would mention the TOS mirror universe, but I do not recall any Fed Admirals from that era ever making an appearance, so I guess we would have no idea what they wore.

This takes us to Trek's most hideous uniform era, the first Motion Picture. I'll confess to not buying this set because it is very ugly, so maybe I missed something here. But, as you can see here on Admiral Kirk, his Tunic is clearly of a different design, and he has shoulder bars where others ranked Captain and below do not

Now this leads me to my personal favorite: the Wrath of Kahn style. Note the gold braiding both along the edge of the jacket flap, and on the sleeve.

Now we get to the TNG/DS9 era. The game does offer an Admiral uni from the gray shoulder era if you buy the DS9 Package. But, from the Enterprise D days we need a uniform such as what was mentioned earlier, one like this:

    tng-admiral-burgundy-1.jpg?v=1401916063

This leads me to my last one, the "All Good Things" uniform. Please note Admiral Janeway has gold trimming on her uniform:

Different people have different reasons for playing this game. I do it because I'm a rabid Trek fan, I never wanted the franchise rebooted, and this allowed me to put myself into that non-rebooted Trek universe. So, I'd really like to look the part by wearing accurate uniforms.

This problem could all be solved by fixing the rank structure and making the highest attainable rank Commodore. Just sayin'

Plus the hundred or so TNG era Admiral uniforms.

Edit: ST hasn't been rebooted, the new films are an alternate universe, they do not rewrite, they exist in parallel.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I have to say, this is very disappointing. Being a lifetime subscriber and an idiot that buys way too much Zen for this game, I was hoping that someone in development would at least acknowledge this thread in some way and say something, anything. :(

Although you have a good idea, please look around and you will notice Devs rarely respond in threads. It's less that they are not looking around, but more that if one does, then responses will be expected for ... anything.

Who knows, maybe someone at Cryptic is nodding their head after reading this thread :)

Not that I am very fond of admiral attire (none of my characters is, in my headcanon, actually a flag officer) but I do agree in so far as a admiral's variant for every available uniform should have been a given, especially for the canon uniforms. It's just details that belong in a Star Trek theme-park. That's stuff many Trek fans pay attention to. Not including those is, unfortunately, akin to a half-finished job.

I know this is work and all and blah, but it should have been a feature from the beginning. Same goes for Klingon attire, of course.
