The patch was not about fps performance. They didnt say anything about that, and i dont think they will ever recognize the performance issue as a problem. It is happening since years ago, in major or minor measure. And because the major problem is the UI, well, that will be hard to "fix".
Sorry, but there was something said about it in the patch notes, but it seems you didn't even look at them:
Resolved an issue where many audio clips were missing from numerous episodes.
Resolved a typo in the Dinaes Heavy Destroyer’s class name.
Resolved a graphics related issue which will improve the performance of zones with heavy amounts of FX and animation.
The bolded is the afore mentioned note on the fps issue...
Now, back to the topic at hand; no, this patch did not 'fix' this issue. It might have improved things while looking away from the island, as I'm getting a bit better fps around the Promenade, but that's not the real issue. And, after having tested this with the fps graph on, I'm almost 100% convinced that this area:
is the cause. This area was NOT here last year (when I had no issues), and looking in it's direction is what is (seemingly) causing the fps drop.
Not sure what else to say, or do, as I've tried just about every setting in game to try and make it better, to no avail. Super frustrated I'm not enjoying this year as I have other years.
Something I noticed about that area: when your camera is close to those large hor'ghan statues to the left and right of the tents they emit some sort of loud humming noise. You can hear it when you walk up to them and zoom the camera in a bit closer.
I wonder if this may have something to do with the issues we're having.

Consider that all of the other ground maps also affected have not had any content changes this season (ex. New Romulus Command, all outdoor environments in the FED Klingon War series.) Also consider that the Risa performance issues started prior to the summer event, when those stalls were added (so whatever the trigger is for this S10 glitch is, it was present on the old map.)
Its more likely that Cryptic broke something in the engine as part of the S10 release (possibly relating to shading/texturing/rendering of a certain type(s) of foliage exclusive to these maps.)

Yup i already knew about that part, but since i am an experienced gamer/sto player and i am not a fool, and i know about computers, i know that there is almost nothing they can do to solve fps issues because all depends on the capabilities of the game engine and the other big problem is the UI, and that has nothing to do with the game engine. Well, i dont have any problems when i look at that area, not even reduction on fps.. the only thing i can say that it must be some combinations between the game engine and the end-user system. And as we all know, these things are really difficult to check.
No, dont bother with the game settings, they never contribute to improve the fps performance. They never did lol. If you take the 2 or 3 major options that will make the performance better or worst, like AA, dynamiclightning and the other one i cant remember, all the other options are useless to impact on the performance. If deactivating dynamic lightning and switching off AA or Depth of field, doesnt make it better, nothing will do.

That has nothing to do with what you believe cryptic has or hasn't done over your entire history with the game. That's your own ax to grind, and one that the general forum is emminently better suited for. What we need are updates from users or cryptic about how this issue is shaping. Is it getting better, has it gotten worse. Are there any more updates from cryptic staff (of which there have been a few)? Something broke with S10 and it still needs fixing. There's plenty of reason to suppose it will (see. the patch notes over the past 5 years) but it'd be nice to know (or be able to guess) when that'll happen.
Got two cents? Spend them somewhere else. No one is asking for your opinion as an unaffected user with nothing to add to this topic but general commentary and misleading troubleshooting advice. You may just want to "tell it as it is" but to anyone experiencing problems with Risa and other ground maps you're just hijacking their problem to use as a convenient soap box.
It's not helpful. What you may at heart want to contribute (sympathy and moral support in the face of yet another evil, baby-eating, money-grubbing company) isn't going to make the game run smoother (obviously, you aren't responsible for magic-ing away STO's problems) or (critically) help the "victims" deal with the sad fact of their situation (its just emphasizing the problem from your point of view. It doesn't get us anywhere.)
I really don't want this to be a GTFO post, but on multiple levels you've kind of made a mess of this. You could try better, but then again you haven't had this glitch so its hard to see where the constructive feedback could come from (though of course you could surprise me).

Dunno what you talking about . The Game Engine was NEVER improved, changed, or watever. Graphical overhauls??? where??? look of the game?? the game looks exactly the same as it was in 2012. Even worst if you ask me (now the AA is messed up). Nothing was done to "improve" performance. Or maybe you talking about other game?? because i must be honest you got me, im completely amazed lol. Its completely the opposite. Back in the days you could tweak a lot of things and you could actually see results in your performance. Nowadays, that is gone. No matter what graphic options you touch, nothing will change. Not to mention directx11. Lol, other games have full support for dx11 (as they should) and STO nowadays still struggles with a lot of capabilities of DX11 and a lot of users cant use DX11 for one reason or another.

You know what? i dont have really anything against cryptic white knights, but if makes you feel happy you right, lets tell the thousands of people that cant barely play due to this that they need to buy a way better computer because this game needs a last generation one to run and there is nothing wrong with the game engine. I've been getting issues with this as well. So much so that I just skipped the summer event this year aside from one or two get togethers with fleet mate. And normally this one's my favorite.
Anyway, system vitals to help:
AMD-A8-5600K APU (3.6 GHz)
8 GB of RAM
Gigabyte AMD HD 7770 with 1GB / VRAM
Game runs great pretty much anywhere else, but Risa runs like mud.
Well just got back my internet connection, I had too get a ethernet pci-e adapter. A power surge blew out my MB ethernet port. But anyway I would like to thank the person at cryptic for fixing the problems I had at risa, risa plays alot better now.

I'm glad this fixed things for you, but I just want to point out for anyone still poking around this thread that I'm still having issues as of July 18th. The July 5th patch did really nothing to address whatever the big issue is affecting me and a number of others.
