Hey Nando,
That video was recorded on the second day of that ship build and since then we have only really been beaten twice. One was due to lag (not an excuse) but the other was from a team who put their heads together and formulated a strategy to defeat our method of attack. We were mostly ineffectual against and I salute them for not coming on here with tissues and crying to Mommy Forum but actually doing something about it.
I didn't want to mention you by name but didn't you realise this was referring to you?
If aren't happy about the state of PVP in this game (and again for the record, I am most certainly not) then maybe you should adapt just like a certain team of Europeans (you know who you are if you are reading this and I tip my hat to you again) has done.. or you can keep crying.. either is fine with me.
Oh and this too. Respect where respect is due. But if you want I'd be happy to have a go... but I won't be taking the ship in the vid as I already know it is ineffectual against your team.
You probably should have tested this before writing a war and peace post about nothing. This is 100% inaccurate. Go and test and you will see... under an unbuffed firing cycle 8 beams with 10 power cost will cost you 70 power as the first one is free. Under fire at will, all 8 cost you plus an extra 1 per beam...
Cruiser Command Aura - Weapon System Efficiency drops the power drain to 8 per beam and slotting Assimilated Module + Kinetic Cutting Beam grants Omega Weapon Amplifier URL="http://sto.gamepedia.com/Ability:_Omega_Weapon_Amplifier"]STOwiki Info page[/URL. Due to the way Fire at Will procs OWA will proc at least once. Due to this it is possible to have a beam barrage under fire at will to maintain 125 weapon power at all times. Your claim that power drain hurts FAW builds, but it doesn't if you've got the right setup.
Ultimately you didn't even need to worry about power drain because your build relies on a broken console proc to obtain kills. Bragging about obliterating a team 15-2 via a console proc isn't going to get you any praise or respect here. Two of the players that were on the Nova Core team were Ground PvPers that joined Nova Core. Thus you weren't even fighting pure Space PvP builds in that fight. Sorry, there was no skill or coordination required to win that PvP match. You could have done the same thing with a 5 man team of T5-U Nebulas, 5x Plasma Proc console, 6x Beam Array, and TRB3 to boot...make it that much worse.
btw:
that may was a nc-fleetmade, but i think the outcome against their 1st premade may would have gone some other way.
get a premade to fight yours, not just a fleetmade. that's like fighting a random opvp-made. sad part is, there are barely real premades left. but i'm kinda sure one or two could be convinced to come back for this thread ...
Yeah, ever since they booted out Shift, they have no real aspirations for PvP. It's just a bunch of guys looking to have fun.
Wow... thank you for the giving us this delicious QQ. I do such enjoy the "I'm gonna show you guys" speech and you were one of the best :-)
Snipey
I am pretty sure everyone in this thread, besides you, realizes that if Vice were to come back, youd never win another match. We were one of "those premades" that people complained about the most on these very forums. Only two fleets could consistently beat us, and even those were never just one sided affairs, we had good fights usually. Youre not even in the same league as us.
Let me put it this way, if you were fighting say IC or Sad Pandas (in their prime) in your video? You might have some credibility with me. But youre not.
Hell, id log in right now with my season 8 setup and wreck you, being out of practice for almost a year. Too bad I dont care enough to install the game.
Edit to add: Upon further consideration, if you pay me 100 million EC, I will install the game, log in, and teach you how to PvP. Take you to school and all of that.

And they say the ego's aren't a problem in this community. Ha!
What tactics? are you seriously going to argue that five people rolling 10KM AOE antiproton with plasma explosions is a Tactic that requires skill??
I am torn between feeling left out of the conversation because no one noticed me, or happy that no one noticed me so that I would have the time to prep my big nukes and not get focused. Either way, the above statement is not true, as our team did not have 5 FaW boats with those silly lolXplozionz consoles.

i think in the end that doesn't really matter that much . i think it's more about the op's approach on the topic.
that vid not shows something like a premade match, besides the plasma-cons. it's more like a pugstomp. don't get me wrong, we all been on nc's side of the fence in this (pugging with up to 5 fleeties and facing full premades).
we've all been stomped in such matches. but i barely remember a single time such match had been stated as win against any pvp-fleet with posting a vid.
i'd liked to see that other vid if there is one. that one against csi (premade?) .
i think in the end that doesn't really matter that much .
This, right there, is the bottom line. It's supposed to be a game, and it's supposed to be challenging. This cheese-fest removes both. Ultimately, though, 1M wins in a PvP queue in STO doesn't really matter that much .
Worth pointing out Snipey, I've had two folks I know reference this thread to me now and ask wtf is going on. One asked if The Breakfast Club is one of those fleets now, like Dental or Hobos. Worth thinking about how sometimes what you intend and how you come across are not the same thing.
And they say the ego's aren't a problem in this community. Ha!
Lol, he does in theory have a whole PvP team, he would just have to bring them all over from ESO and then I'd join in for the fun. Given the junk I saw in that video, I wouldn't use my drain build (Heck, it's barely useful now a days). I have a back-up build for that kind of cheese they spread in that video.
Just did a pug PvP queue and met a team of total cheese abusers, including a Nova Core guy who was using every kind of broken stuff out there, fawing like there's no tomorrow to land Kemocite hits, on top of... well do I need to continue?
Nuff said they lost 0-15.
I need to get to him. I can't just leave him out there alone. - Sometimes you've got to makes sacrifices, Lara. You can't save everyone. - I know about sacrifices. - No, you know about loss. Sacrifice is a choice you make. Loss is a choice made for you. - I can't choose to let him die, Roth.
Yea big egos, everybody can say on forums his fleet is the greatest, why don't you make a tournament? it will be interesting to see what fleets have now top pvp teams.
The fact of the matter snipey47a is that there are bad builds in this game. Builds that are due to a lack of understanding and experience and then there's your build. Yours is bad on purpose. Your build owes its success to Delta Rising, by far the greatest and most loved expansion, and that's sad. Especially with the attitude that you and others in the past have so profusely demonstrated. The attitude that winning an arena match is a demonstration of skill.
At the end of the day, anyone can build a ship purely for overpowering everybody, it doesn't require any skill really. All it requires is knowledge and understanding of STO's current mechanics or a quick search on the forums. The recipe is in fact very simple, get 'X' amount of EC and 'Y' amount of dilithium and spend it in gear that exploits the current cracks in what can very vaguely be referred to as balance in STO. It costs vast resources and time but you get to blow people up non-stop for 1, 2 maybe 3 months at most before its hit with nerf bat or the perpetual hammer of balance and you go looking for the next big exploit.
You see, a few big names in PvP were mentioned in one of the comments. Names like Thissler or Queenscora, Kings of PvP in their day (though Queenscora is hardly in the same league due to the proficient use of spammed cheese), and the only reason you are posting these little videos of you facerolling slow cruisers who were using RSP cushions is because the Kings of PvP are absent. Why are they absent?
Sure the reasons: lack of balance, cheese, broken mechanics, etc, etc, etc are valid but the biggest one is that with the way PvP is, it's like playing in a kiddie pool. Broken mechanics allows idiots to come up with a fail build and obliterate people for the sake of obliterating. This happened back during the reign of the T'varo, the temporal destroyer, the JemBug and the Palisade. People realised that equipping a T'varo with specific gear/cheese, weapons and abilities such as EPtW with Aux2Bat and maybe a bit of DEM and the insane amounts of critD and chance from the rommies would allow them to instavape anyone with very little threat to themselves. Those builds were very powerful and for a while there was a lot of frustration until it quite rightly got hit with the balancing hammer. Guess what happened next. People with substantially more thought out builds that cost half as much, that were more balanced, adaptable and designed to last more than 3 months were challenging the mighty T'varo, sometimes with inferior gear and winning! Why? Because the people who relied on the broken mechanics got so used to fighting in the spotlight, the beacons of light of broken mechanics accidentally provided by cryptic and used it to vape everyone in sight form the shadows created by said light weren't used to fighting in the dark. The reason I say "dark"is, you may understand, the relative balance created in season 8-8.5 just before DR was just like fighting in the dark. There was very little to give you an overwhelming advantage.
That is when things got interesting! Here's an example, my PvP ship and build from back in the day:
Hardly the the most powerful ship out there and hardly the best build. It lacked the brute force of the vapers at that time. Sometimes I'd swap a few things around depending on the situation, like removing the cloak or using the CC heavy turret and torp or swapping the leech with an RCS (although the leech can be considered cheese, back then when everyone had one it wasn't an advantage) etc...
But I made my ship like that on purpose. I didn't want a ship like so many others that can do only one thing with that thing being overpower people then run away. No. I made something more reliable, more adaptable in battle and useful in a team. That build allowed me to do a number of things! With good timing I could use it to alphastrike, sustain heavy fire from 2 players of equivalent or superior builds (3 for a short period), support a team and the main thing it did, what it was originally build for, was counter-vape/strike.
I spent most of my time testing that build in kerrat and then applying it properly in capture and hold. The arena has always been a playground in my mind, not the place to test a build's effectiveness. A team's effectiveness yes, but not build effectiveness. It's in capture and hold that you find the limits of your build but more importantly where you learn how far your skills can push those limits.
Contrary to your and popular belief, kills aren't proof of skill. With my build back then, I could alphastrike a player and take him out in under 3 seconds thanks to what I learnt from Thissler. All that proved is that I had good timing and reasonable skill. Great skill comes in when you spend 10, 20, 30+ minutes locked in a battle against 2+ players who are trying to stop you from capturing a zone after they try to vape you! I've tested my build and my skills against Thissler, against, Queenscora, against Bauklotz, lordsdale and so on! Players that are known for being good at PvP. I'm not saying I beat them, the majority of the time it was a draw or someone intervened eventually to tip the scales, but myself and others in this thread have spent a good few minutes locked in a battle where you couldn't tell who was going to win.
We fought in the dark back then. There were no immunities! No specialisation trees to give you some slack and catch you when things get hairy!
You play in a kiddie pool with a ship made of floats and you think that gives you power or skill over anyone!?
(Bane quote!) You merely adopted the dark. We were born in it, moulded by it. We were fighting sharks in the ocean. When cloak could be both an advantage and get you killed at the same time. When cheese could create more problems than solve if not used correctly. When a broken build would give you an advantage but could also be a liability if you let it make you careless and soft.
So before you challenge any of us, thinking that beating us in an 1v1 in a broken build would prove you're the better player. Go back to your kiddie pool with a decent, functional build, fight someone tougher than you for more than 1 minute at a time and then come join us in the big boy pool without your floats.
Never forget that you and the current lot of PvPers that mysteriously started to do well after DR are ruling due to the absence of afore mentioned Kings of PvP.
(not that I consider myself a king, I'm not)
So pray that relative balance we got in season 8 and 8.5 never comes, because when it does there won't be a kiddie pool for you to play in and no floats to cover your ship with.
Yours truly!

Honestly, I didn't expect so many folks to get trolled like that. Seriously, how many times has this particular wound scabbed over at this point for it to result in it being picked at like it was a fresh wound?
um, no we don't. If we did, most of us would've uninstalled and moved on to games that haven't completely ignored all concepts of balance and counter-play in PvP while retaining challenge and fun in PvE (there are quite a few such games out there, you know...)
Instead, we all senselessly stick around this, most of us can't even express WHY except "it's all the Star Trek that's left..."
so Sense? Common Sense? Nah, sorry man. None of that here.
I've got no idea what PvP is like in The Secret World these days...only dorked around a little way back during beta and was not impressed. There are the global messages about the different factions capturing various areas though.
I've got no idea what PvE instances are like in The Secret World these days...haven't run any since the beta, though they were pretty cool at the time with just the variety of builds one could do in the game to meet the various roles.
It's got more exploration on one map that STO has in the whole game...and...there are a bunch of maps. Then there's the different mission types...stuff where folks have to think...Hell, there's even an in-game browser cause some of the stuff needs to be researched/looked up.
I sometimes wonder what a Star Trek game made by a combination of CCP/Funcom (EVE/TSW) would be like...the mix of missions/exploration/etc from TSW with the space from EVE and so forth. Oh well, not going to happen...we now return to our regularly scheduled 3D chatroom called STO.

A group of us HoBO's have been playing TSW since we stopped playing STO, and it's really come quite a long ways from where it began. Believe it or not, there are persistent balance changes to the PvP that end up working for the better, and PvP objectives benefit your faction game-wide in all of your PvE activities. I know, unfathomable thoughts in the context of Star Trek Online. And as you touched on the build variety is as good as STO when it was at its 'best'. Yea, it's still ground PvP, but just since we picked it back up there have been two really significant balance patches that levelled PvP out very well (and it already had a sort of GW style 'paperdoll' system).
The PvE is of course worlds better - there are actual mechanics and not just floating bags of hitpoints to kill before the timers go off. The investigation missions alone are worth the price of admission (I never thought that knowledge of the Arabic alphabet would benefit me in an MMO, for instance).
Heh, The Unburnt Bush was one that I definitely hit up unfair.co to look at - recognizing that it was Arabic and Hebrew...and that I didn't stand a chance, meh.
Thanks snipey47a for posting this I knew something weird was going on.
Maybe FAW needs to be scrapped and have a completely new power put in it's place because in the years I've been playing, it's been broken more than it's been working. Now I'll go try to hide in some dark corner since I mentioned changing FAW lol.

Thanks snipey47a for posting this I knew something weird was going on.
Maybe FAW needs to be scrapped and have a completely new power put in it's place because in the years I've been playing, it's been broken more than it's been working. Now I'll go try to hide in some dark corner since I mentioned changing FAW lol.
dude.... ur in the pvp forum. beside that lonely pve'er who accidently falls into here from time to time, u won't get any heat for supporting fixing faw !
and indeed i appreciate that other attitude the op showed with posting the vid !
In case anyone following this thread didn't see the video I posted last week which has been seen by the devs (I believe) then here it is.
