Eh? I thought that according to STO lore (path to 2409), Nog was on the Ent-E when she disappeared.
I suppose the path to 2409 is now totally deprecated and liable to be ignored at will?
Where did you see that?
After Starfleet lost contact with Starbase 236 in late September, it sent the U.S.S. Enterprise-E to investigate.
That's in the Path to 2409 and according to Memory Beta, the short story "Unexpected Honor", from the STO main writer, says the ship was destroyed by the Undine while investigating SB 236 but almost all crew members survived (which means everyone minus a dozen of red shirts).
That's open to interpretation; whilst Path to 2409 does state that Nog was assigned as Chief Engineer aboard the Enterprise-E in 2397, the Enterprise-E went missing in 2408.
It therefore seems rather likely that Nog received his promotion to Captain at some point between 2397 2408 and would, obviously, not have been aboard the Enterprise-E when it went missing.
Ah. That would explain it. It has been some time since I looked at it, to be honest. Muchas gracias and all that.

Yeah, I agree here that Nog (and most of the crew) escaped the destruction of Ent-E. If he was still Chief Engineer, he likely held the rank of commander, since the alternate universe DS9 episode had him at that rank in 2389. After 11 years as chief engineer, getting his own ship and promotion to captain seems very reasonable. More likely, he was promoted before 2408 and was off the Ent-E when it was destroyed.
Shon has been captaining the Ent-F for a year now, so I would think Nog captaining the Chimaera for at least that long (2 years) makes sense from a lore perspective.
I, for one, think the model looks great. It shows his age well (since it seems all Ferengi get tons of wrinkles) but retains the look of the younger character. His mouth is almost the exact same and is what gives the best resemblence. If anything, his neck may be a bit long, but everyone in this game is about 7 feet tall, with every room having a 30ft ceiling, so its hard to get height right.
BTW, nice to see a Deep Space Nine cast member aboard. DS9 is still my favorite TV show.
And Nog's character arc is quite interesting, too. If you compare it to the character arcs we've seen in VOY...
Nog: lowly analphabetic thief moving up to one of Starfleet Academy's better cadets serving the Federation in one of its most difficult times.
Kim: Ensign Kim moving up to... Ensign Kim.

If the Enterprise-E's return from being gone is being ignored, why not ignore what made it gone in the first place?
An era ended when Geordi La Forge left Engineering for Command. La Forge was dividing his time between ship design and his duties with Starfleet for several years, but when the opportunity arrived to take his own command he could not turn it down. La Forge was promoted to captain of the U.S.S. Challenger, and recommended Commander Nog to be chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise-E.
The promotion gave the first Ferengi in Starfleet another record. He was the first Ferengi to serve on Starfleet's flagship. Nog's example inspired other Ferengi, and the 2396 class at Starfleet Academy included four Ferengi cadets.
"We're seeing a dramatic change in the Ferengi culture," said Talsa Gray of the University of Alpha Centauri. "Commerce and profit still play a huge role in who the Ferengi are, but the social reforms of Grand Nagus Rom and the example of his son are showing younger Ferengi that they can make their own choices. If you don't have the lobes for business, do something else."
So, apparently this was not worthy of one of Nog's achievements on the blog?
Rom was an idiot. In fact, Rom was part of the reason that Nog decided to become a Starfleet Officer. To quote what Memory Alpha says:
"Nog had seen how his father could have been chief engineer on a starship, but instead had pursued only profit like "a good Ferengi," and as a result, ended up with nothing to look forward to but the slim chance he would someday inherit Quark's Bar, and Nog didn't want to follow in his footsteps"
I mean, yeah - Rom landed on his feet, but that was a result of pure, undiluted luck. Nothing else.
I think it was more Rom seeing Nog getting his act together prompted him to get his own finger out and start pushing to be more. The son inspiring the dad.

And don't forget that time he deliberately kept Garak in front of him after crashing at the start of season 6, because Garak had been infected and kidnapped him at the end of the last season. And openly admited that's what he was doing and didn't trust Garak. Nog certainly wasn't afraid to speak his mind.

See, and that's why I really love Ferengi. The different arcs that they have featuring different Ferengi are all amazing.
Even moreso, Nog's was an idealist in contradiction to normal Ferengi views. It was seriously cool seeing the progression of him through the seasons.

One of the best moves was playing him against Jake Sisko, who despite what viewers would expect of him as a human and a military brat, lacked the ambition and drive to follow his dad's career and seems sometimes to drift through life. But Nog in the end turned out to be much more like the *human* stereotype.

I would disagree about Jake drifting through life. He knew what was "expected" of him as a son of a commander (at the time), but he didn't want to go that route, it just wasn't for him, probably because he saw what it was really like with Starfleet on a day-to-day basis without officially being in it. He wanted to get into journalism, set that as his goal and pursued it. He even voluntarily goes into dangerous situations as a field reporter to give the story to the people, and goes essentially under-cover somewhat at the jem'hadar/cardassian occupied DS9. In one alternate reality we see how he ended up as an old man, while his dad's disappearance had a profound effect on him with his family life, he was still successful. Jake's fine, he just went down a different path than what was expected of him.

.. Mushroom Mushroom!
So glad Nog is coming to STO! Known for a while since his little tweet, but glad it is all official now.

Amen brother!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away perhaps. But I've heard not even that any longer.

One of my favorite things is when Quark talks about Humans, The Federation, and Root Beer.
I would say Jake Sisko had quite a bit to play in Hog's character development.
I think Nog would be different after all these years of Star Trek ..
he was one of the most dedicated and hardworking charater in Star trek universe
most likely Nog would have become the most important persone between
Ferengy Alliance and The federation
Someone important like Spock and Worf
Now he is only a captain... come on that is a bit less
I think it was more Rom seeing Nog getting his act together prompted him to get his own finger out and start pushing to be more. The son inspiring the dad.

To quote Martok:
"You either are very brave or very stupid young Ferengi!"
and Nog quips back with
"Probably a little of both"
And now Martok is dead.
Don't TRIBBLE with Nog.
can we hope Worf's return for a future FE? I was really happy to team with Worf for Sphere of influence

Technically, it was Pellaeon's ship. Thrawn chose it for his flag.
According to the forum ToS, everything we say on the forums becomes property of PW, so I don't think I have much choice in the matter. But yes. :P
Rule of Acquisition n°666: Don't f**k with the Nog!

LOL .
I like Nog, I hope they stick in his random Nog chuckles
Bonus: Worf suggests a Star Trek Online solution to the problem.
