RXS Chris Claremont? You my friend have good taste in superhero scribes. His X-Men run in the 70s and 80s is absolutely legendary and he pretty much created everything that anyone knows about the franchise today. Before him, X-Men was a canceled book of second rate Fantastic Four retreads and he rebuilt the title into the juggernaut franchise we know and love.
He's also one of the core creators who brought depth and real world issues into the medium, using the mutant concept as a metaphor for race, sexuality, and basically any difference that gets discriminated against and using that to tel powerful stories addressing real world issues of prejudice and bigotry and the real consequences of such hatred.
He doesn't get near the recognition he deserves for it.
He also is the author of three of my favorite sci-fi novels (in order) First Flight, Grounded, and Sundowner. All about the adventures and career of Lt. Nicole Shea (my mains namesake). If you love his X-Men, you will love his novels. I just wish he would write more.
On the subject of authors, my Fleet Galaxy Dreadnought is the U.S.S. William Gibson. Now to see who knows that name.
in fact the majority of other mmo`s I know of that have offered free items for special events only ever have them available the one time and never again so I don't see this as unusual.
in fact I think it was jolly kind for cryptic to offer older event give away`s repeatedly for as long as they did.
it seems to me that when these ships were available so many players used to post how they were rubbish and not worth grinding through the event for, now they are being taken away everybody wants one.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Ive been playing sto for some time now, but never on a permanent basis until now.
Looking at the sto gamepedia ive seen all these great ships that i can no longer get, i even missed the T6 carrier, and being a carrier lover i missed the only T6 one.
I can understand that having exclusive ships can be fun but for all the new players i becomes somewhat frustrating knowing that you cant get them at all.
there are examples of free ships like the obelisk carrier, the dyson ship that were rewarded and even trhat ended and became paid ships too.
i know that the game needs income to survive, i myself have paid for both ships and zen but some ships from specific events are no longer on my reach.
i would like the community opinion on having a permanent event where a substancial amount of dilitium, currency from a ramdon daily quest, lets say 3 months worth of doing a daily, maybe even a set amount of marks from the different factions, only 1 event would be possible at each time.
this would give f2p players something to work for, they could work for a ship that didnt cost older players nothing except some grinding wish these new players would do alot more but by doing so, be able to enjoy some cool ships from past events.
The one thing about free ships is that there are now two ships that carry a special within them. The free dyson science destoryer(T5), and the Samsar Cruiser(T6).
Now the free dyson ship wasn't that good. Most people will admit that. There were also other ships that were given out in other episodes too. The Enterprise-C, and Obilisk Carrier, but these two ships didn't have anything special about them.
Now there are 2 possible solutions to this:
1) I think that when STO runs the special epsiode event to get the Shard, and the Cane, that they should add these ships to the list. The (T6) ships could actually be the ones that you have to grind a little for while the event is on.
This way the T5 versions of the Enterprise-C, Obilisk, and free Dyson Destroyer could still be gotten by any new player. They would just have to wait till the special event comes back around.
The bonus here for Cryptic is that even the free Oddy, or Bortas could be thrown into new episodes as I do not think people will pay 200,000 dil for them in the fleet. I do not know the actual numbers but I do not think they sold a lot of them at 200,000 dil each. The whole point of this event is to get people to replay episodes. It worked really well before and its something they should keep.
2) They(Cryptic) could put all these ships into the fleet ships you could buy. This means each ship would cost 200,000 dil but anyone could buy them at anytime if they are in a fleet of the right tier.
