Had a change of mind after getting the shaft in Voth BZ. Was at the city as a v-rex was about to pop. i went to the nearest capture point artillery silo nearest the command centre as it was failing. V-rex popped. By the time i got back, V-rex health so low only got 8 dil.
Chasing people back to command centre went to Outskirts, V-rex at low health unable to do enough damage 8 dil.
Got to park V-rex health to low unable to do damage 8 dil
30 odd mins wasted and 24 dil no Cybernetic implants.
Cryptic either turn off frosted boots outside the winter event or make them account bound rather than bound to character so if you have a character that unlocked the winter store they can equip the rest of the account.
I lost out in that instance due to not being able to get across the map quick enough compared to the rest of the players on the map.
Being a Science with no boosts to weapon fire didn't help either. Only had exothermic induction which is a fairly tame power anyway. All v-rex's were under 20% health when i got there and out of firing range so health even lower when i was in range
Peeved is an understatement esp as i helped capture 5 points
The boots and the shard are the best 2 items ingame. You no touch!

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Then let this toon have them. only one out of 15 that does not.
Character bound why ? it takes as much grinding on 1 toon to buy 2 pairs as it does on 2 toons to buy a pair each. makes no sense to me personally.
No i don't really want them nerfed/turned off as running BZ without them is like going from a tier 5 starship to a tier 1 ship. Its painful
Just annoyed after taking part in capturing the zone to find myself rewarded with zip at the end due to Campers and a lack of speed getting across the map.
Might have to go back to the old stragedy before they changed the tagging around to taking off armour and shields and letting the 1st v-rex kill me so i respawn at the cmd centre doorway to save a hell of a lot of travel time.
Just need to work out the right amount of dps it requires this sci to do to register a tag, tact and engineer is easy peasy
This is why we are so happy to see Santa Q each year!

I'd respectfully disagree with the OP, the Frosted Boots item can be purchased at any point during the year, all you need is the commodities and the Winter Store unlocked.
Also, the experience described has happened to me more than once and I actively use the Frosted Boots, so it's not the fault of the item.
As it stands this screams of being a 'boss camper' problem where a select few people stand at the Boss points while the bulk of players on the instance do the leg-work capturing points, so that once the Boss 'pops' the campers open fire on it and murder it before most of the people who captured all those points can arrive on the scene.
Personally I believe the V-Rex boss spawn should be altered so that everyone in the instance has an equal chance to get to the boss.
Perhaps once the Boss spawns have an 'emergency transport' take all players back to battlezone command? This would make 'boss camping' irrelevant and give players who captured those out-of-the-way points a fair chance to get to the Bosses in time...
The problem isn't with Frost boots. The problem is with the revamped reward system. In the attempt to deal with AFKers/Leechers, all that happened was people playing properly now get screwed more often.
They are not going to fix it properly, so they just need to return it to how it was. At least then, those of us actually clearing the zones had a fair chance to tag and get credit for each Rex.

Hmm, it's quite common for me to help take 7-8 areas, in one or more of the 3 districts, then watch everyone run off to try and take the last 2 areas in another district, while i having done my damn share, wander to the nearest silo ready to scrag the voth techs stealing the omega particles, as more stealing = lower bonus FOR EVERYONE.
Seems to me the people who'd fare best with your iudea are the instance hopping laways-late-to-the-fight leechers, since they can lounge in the hq in their ice boots till the big moneys on the table and not miss out on the kill, beating the rest of us there in their ice boots while the people who made it happen get to slog along at the back, trying to return to where they were, and earn nothing.
This is the OP's SECOND "sci capts cant earn in the DBZ" thread in the last week. My sci toon hasn't had much trouble being an active participant in taking down 1, 2 or all 3 v-rex, and in getting the payout.
I suspect the problem isn't lack of ice boots, or 'campers', just wrong weapons, wrong tactics, wrong attitude.

I'd much rather they make the event stores unlocked account wide after you unlock it for the first time on a character.
I tend to have left over holiday items that I could use to buy frosted boots for my new alts. They can't access the store though so I have to wait. If they were to unlock the store account wide, I could just use the items I already earned to pick up some boots.
Doing this could also open up an off-season item market. Don't have frosted boots for your new alt? Since the store is unlocked account wide, you can go buy some items off the exchange to get your boots now. If it's too expensive for your taste, you can always wait for the next time the event rolls around. This would give you the option though. It's one I'd use.
I don't even use them myself and, don't even have speed boosting for running on and, I can get to 1 - 2 of them very easily so, get the lead out is all I have to say.
As for the campers, yes they need be punished severely somehow!
The Voth BZ and its spawn camper problem have nothing to do with the Frosted Boots.
The city omega node is the worst camped one and they often kill the dino before anyone who's actively playing can run over, even from the adjacent nodes (the boots do not help). And because the transporter is so far away, its possible the other dinos are gone too, by the time you can get there. If you're in the city when it hits the fan, it may be better to just head straight to the transporter or command center and hit one of the other dinos.
Oh, how I miss the times when tagging still worked.
I do camp. But thats after myself and one other, yanno, capture an entire zone by ourselves and they run off to help the other areas that are already over half cpatured. I just kinda say, "Yup taking a break right here til the rex spawns." But then you also have to be able to hold out long enough for help to arrive. Love doing this, fighting the rex, killing the voth medics trying to steal the omega particles, with both boffs laying unconscious for 5 minutes or so til people start arriving from other zones. And I do it on a Tac officer, using hypos.
I'd respectfully disagree with the OP, the Frosted Boots item can be purchased at any point during the year, all you need is the commodities and the Winter Store unlocked.
On that, don't you need to actually be in the event (Winter Event in this case) to get the quick mission and even rep project TO unlock the stores?
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
On that, don't you need to actually be in the event (Winter Event in this case) to get the quick mission and even rep project TO unlock the stores?
Yes, this is why it doesn't matter how much ornaments you have saved up. You have to donate one ornament to Q there in the wonderland to unlock the store for that character.

Hmm ok I like my Frosted Boots, and I sorely wish my Delta Recruit had them. So honestly, IMO the Winter Store should be an Account Unlock, because I have the Commodities to buy a pair, just can't access the store.
As to the "Science can't earn in the BZ" IDK what this person is smoking. Exothermic Induction Field is tame?? I can deal over 1000 damage on a Crit with that, my exploits with a sniper rifle are usually 1300 non-Crit and I have an almost 50% chance to Expose the Target with most of my abilities. Science is nearly overpowered on ground.
The root of the problem is incredibly poor scenario design. Everything else proceeds from that.
It's not. The scenario was well designed in the beginning, before they decided that tagging was bad and shoehorned in this current hidden score system that doesn't fit the reward structure at all.
Disproportionately rewarding dino-killing over node capture was never a problem when everyone could tag all the dinos. Everyone would try to cap the nodes ASAP, then go around tagging the dinos before killing them. Everyone won.
Now that tagging is all but impossible, that same reward structure incentivizes camping the omega nodes instead. Being far from the dino when it spawns runs a risk of ending up with no reward, because the others won't just tag it and move on, they'll kill it before you can get there. So people leave the last nodes to someone else and camp the dino spawn. Nobody wants to be the loser who captures the last node and hands the victory to the campers.
And sometimes there is no someone else, because everyone's spawn camping and everyone knows that if they leave to cap the last node, the other campers will kill the dino.
Personally, I don't camp. It's boring. But I won't to be their sucker either. If it looks like the map is full of campers, I finish the dailies and leave.
Simplest solution IMHO: make a zone around the boss, with a timer.
There either has to be everyone inside the circle/zone, or a minute timer.
Since I do not know the zone myself, I can't place a time on the needed run time for the slowest player, but take that time, then add 15 seconds, spawn...
That is if one is a frikken griefer, he can't grief. :P

I'd agree with you but 'tagging' isn't exactly earning the reward from the dinos, all you end up doing is defeating one dino and getting 3 rewards for having 'tagged' the others before other players kill them.
I suppose an equitable solution would be to give everyone the reward for all dinos killed, if (and only if) the player captured, or assisted in captruing, at least 2-3 points, this would make 'camping' equitable for non-campers lol, and would not penalize those players who capture that last point off in the corner and miss out on killing the boss. Although... It could possibly make players less interested in taking on the bosses, leaving everyone without rewards.
I'm beginning to suspect that the problems with the Dyson Battlezone are more complicated than we as players are aware of...

It's not tactics, Weapons or attitude. One of the failed tags I hit the v-Rex 10 times with the pulse wave 2 of those with the secondary shot half those shots were right on top of him, hit it with exothermic induction, electro-gravametric, and the dyson tier 5 rep trait and it failed to tag.
If I had been on a tact and activated ambush, fire in my mark, rally cry and used the dyson trait I'll guarantee it would of counted.
My kit on my sci is a dyson expedition Crth x with weapons and logic, exothermic induction, electro gravametric and sonic pulse for the research parts. Antiproton Pulse wave ur crthx3/critd. I have the voth doff tat makes exothermic induction fire projectiles and a geologist to make electro-grav create a well.
Rep trats are omega to boost weapon dmg, the dyson ones to boost crtid and Crth and the iconian for plus 5 to kit powers.
Personal traits are whatever a trill comes with.
I have no issue with a sci running any missions other than v-Rex tagging for some reason I got to do 3 times the work of a eng or tact to make sure the dmg registers.
Borg ground TRIBBLE through it. Bug hunt elite TRIBBLE through it.
Voth when only a couple of people are shooting and it's at low health fine. A lot of people well that's where the problem lies, sci just doesn't hit hard enough when lots of shots are flying in and the dinos health is diminishing fast there's where the tag fails over an eng or tact whose toys hit for much much harder. Mines vs exothermic mines win. Vs ambush ? Ambush wins.
I know how to play the game and each career and know each ones weakness. Been playing for over 4 years.

Ok, pulsewave, good, glad you followed my advice from the other thread, exotherm, fine, but I'm seeing a picture of you spending a large amount of time 'casting sci spells' rather than just shooting the hell out of it, my bolian sci spends more time shooting that 'casting' and that seems to work. Possible that recent updates have put in a % based 'afk' style penalty similar to stf's, that simple doesnt register all the fancy spells, stick to exotherm and guns.
Wells and rifts etc... my tac doesnt use rifts on the vrex, it seems to shrug them off.
I've also seen times when the thing is damned hard to hurt because somebody has 'cast' some massive freeze spell on it, or done some weird stuff that leaves it levitating 15 ft off the ground and almost unkillable, even seen the damn thing shifted right out of the silo zone by mad kit power abuse.
Some people overkill the mad kit powers, just pretend you're a TRIBBLE tac with nothing but an exothermic grenade launcher and a damn good gun (though if I was getting a pulsewave that fancy, just for the zone, I'd have gone polaron for voth).
Sorry, but the wrong attitude bit is that 'playing 4 years and knowing how to play' bit, if that worked, you wouldn't be having a problem, right? I've been playing 5 months and I don't have that problem, a 4 year vet like you should be able to do as well or better then a 5 month noob, but old habits die hard.

Perhaps its the rustiness of ground missions as Delta Rising seriously put me off running borg ground stf's in fact i haven't run one since DR hit when i used to run them daily across 12 toons at the time. And enjoyed them. The massive shield and hp gain that initially launched with DR for space put me right off as i thought to hell with that if its the same for ground.
But from what i'm assuming about what you are saying about just shoot and not use kits my opinion on science kits dps ability is fairly accurate, in that they are potentially weak which is prob why i do need to shoot with guns more than a eng or a tact with there fancy mines/grenada ext.
I'd like to get back into Borg ground and a few other pre-delta missions i used to play but running into a hit point wall is not fun. Unless its a v-rex so you have more up time shooting it

LOL. I've herd a lot of 'veterans' complain about Delta Rising, but... Season 9, 6 months ago, just predates my first forray into STO, DR is the only STO I know, I didn't swot up on the forums and wikis for a month before making my first toon (the bolian fed sci capt).
I'd been playing less than a week and a half when I first hit the zone, didn't have fancy rep armours, or expensive guns, the polarons that toon still uses came free from spending marks on my dyson rep, marks I earned in the zone.
I didn't have a fancy kit or loads of modules for it, a lousy green 3 slot one of which was exotherm, and that came from a loot drop, so I relied on the nice free gun I got for spending the marks I made from my early and less successful forays into the zone. Learned as I went.
Exotherm was the best of my limited selection of 'spells', the other two wern't that useful for damage, so I concentrated on using it to soften up targets for finishing with the gun. Artillery position, clear a pylon with an exo, and then the girls and I finished the mob with guns while they ran and screamed and burned, cybertanks, big tough and with repulsor fields, but exo set em alight and never mind their damn shields, same with the rex, light em up and frag em.
You said you put 10 rounds into it, guns reload isnt that slow, unless the whole fight only lasted 20 seconds, your ammo expenditure is way light.
It's not that the kits are too underpowered so much as using a kit power takes too much time, activating a kit power, the 'play tetris on your tricorder' anim, the fancy particles, all of that is time spent standing still (never a good idea in front of a rex) and not shooting. Use the kits but keep it simple, exo, move and fire during it's cooldown, exo again, move and fire, always in aim mode for that bonus damage.
My Tac tends to alternate smoke and plasma grenades with a lot of gunfire, again as little weapons downtime as possible, some kit powers take a damn long time to complete the "activate, animate, particles, damage" cycle.
It's one of my fav areas of the game, when I get tired of grinding missions etc, I go there to relax and have fun, the ad hoc co-op play is good fun a lot of the time.
Edit: The trenches on the Kobali Front can be fun too, and the last stages offer a choice of Iconian marks and Cores as payouts, and no dinos with lasers on their heads, just troopers, ncos, officers, and a single 'spider tank'. Bring something with rapid fire...

From the Park V-Rex to the Transporter is... maybe 1/2 the distance you have to travel than to the Park V-Rex and the Command Center.
The Outskirts Transporter is virturally right next door to the Outskirts V-Rex.
The only one that is complicated is the route for the City Transporter to the City V-Rex.

Unless its a v-rex so you have more up time shooting it
Stop being such a cry baby. Nobody has stopped you getting the same.
I had none, I trod in poo.
And so I cry and wail to all,
My feet too big, shoes too small.
Shod as a clown I flip and flop,
Arrived to late; no dill to shop.
