Replace Borg Red Alerts with Heralds

It only makes sense, doesn't it? The Borg have been defeated so many times; it's absurd that they're still popping up when we have repeatedly killed the Queen and whatnot. Cryptic wanted to make the Iconian heralds seem menacing? This is one of the ways to do that.

    Well, to be fair, the Feds and KDF were in a war for years yet once I reached about level 15 I never saw a KDF again - as I had moved on to Romulans, then Cardassians, then Borg, etc. :)
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    Good idea, but here's a compromise (since it shouldn't take any work what-so-ever)

    Replace sector enemy engagements with Herald (for the duration of Season 10) or add Herald enemy engagements to the current selection.

    The borg red alert has a very particular structure to it (that an Iconinian respray perhaps might not suit. A dreadnaught is not a unimatrix.) The sector engagements don't. Spawn Herald instead of borg/voth/klingon/tal shiar/ect. Job done.

    Uh, no. Please do not do the thing. Some of us really like the Borg and greatly enjoy that instance.

    Add Heralds? Sure. Awesome. Add them to the rotating list of baddies. But don't take away something people still enjoy in order to do it.

    Okay, maybe not totally replace, but it makes more sense for the Heralds to appear anywhere given that they have the gateways.

    oh them borg alerts are getting old... I still do them, but oh man.... im burned out... lol

    anyhow... "Adding" some heralds instances would be awesome, but if I know Cryptic... teehee, not gonna happen...

    I'd definitely support mixing them up at least...

    No need to do away with Borg Red Alerts completely, but throwing some Herald Red Alerts into the mix would indeed be a nice move...
    The entitlement is strong in these forums...

    I would have them rotate. Call it a "Red Alert" but have a different enemy in it. You won't know until you click it. It could be from a pirate all way up to the Heralds. Even some planet or base action would be good just like this.

    How bout actually fighting a war. Got a better idea. Know all those planets like Betazed or Frengar, how bout doing some instances where EX:

    "Betazed is under attack from the Hearlds, all hands on deck to repel the invasion!"

    If we fail, planet falls, then we have to launch a counter attack to retake it and we get no rewards for trying to defend, if we succeed, we get a nice reward and it adds some realism to actually fighting a war.

    This is good too. It can happen every day and reset at different hours. To give everyone a chance. Similar to the events in the Dyson.

    I will never understand people wanting to remove content. Why not just ADD 'Herald' based RAs to the mix? (BTW - no one is FORCING you to do either Borg or Tholian RAs, you have the option of selecting - maintain course, we will not engage...)

    My main, who has a bazillion Omega marks and enough neural processors to open an outlet store loves this idea.

    My Delta Recruits who are all still leveling up the Omega rep to get the goodies hate it.

    I'll let them fight it out and side with the winner.

    so bassically once you take out the borg heralds are hot on your tail :) kind of like a chain reaction, herald fleets moving all over the galaxy right now attacking at will they detect weapons fire realize who is shooting who and decide to take advantage of the situation?

    sounds reasonable right?

    then have the choice between iconian and omerga marks etc...

    or you could simply do a seperate space action for them.

    you know to portray the war as a war instead of just episodes lol

    either way works :D

    On serious note - removing it is bad idea. People should be able to pick their battles, and content they enjoy playing. adding Heralds as encounters, however, would be nice for those, who enjoy the story-arc, giving them bigger feel of actual war happening.

    okay seriously, this would be very cool indeed.

    they really do need to flesh out the idea that this is a war and not just do it through Queues and Episodes :)

    Maybe have Herald Red Alerts, but make them exclusive to level 60 players? I know some (most?) won't care, but you won't have encountered the Heralds before then.

    And yes, some missions or even just patrols in systems like Betazed or Trill would be great.

    Yes, instead of replacing add also herald red alerts. But create something original, like tholians wiping borg before players' eyes and borg command ship arriving after 4 groups have been defeated instead of just copy-pasting herald ships to existing map.
    Something simple is enough, like defend random-number starbase from attacking herald forces.

    I would instead offer up different alerts.
    True Way/Terran/Breen in the Alpha Quadrant

    Elachi & Tholian in and around Tau Dewa

    Tholian & Fek'lhr in and around Qo'nos

    Borg and Tal Shiar in the top-right of the Beta Quadrant

    Herald and Undine near Earth

    Borg and Vaudwaar in the Delta Quadrant

    I think they should develop new red alerts and throw all of them in a mix, so you get the distress cal with transwarp option but a random red alert event. This way you don't need to replace anything, just add more variation.

    Also, red alerts are as simple as it gets; I have no idea why Cryptic didn't throw it in. It's just a map with enemies! They really don't have to work hard with this one; if Cryptic never implements something like this, that will only show how silly/lazy they can be, which is ridiculous.

    Awful idea...don't replace them. I think the Borg are still the greatest and coolest enemy. No emotions, makes them scarier. I say they write the Borg back as the biggest threat. Let the Borg once again find a way to assimilate the Undine and the Iconians as well :D ...resistance is futile!

    While we're on this subject. Alpha Quad could use something other than Borg Red Alerts. That's all that over there. But in Deep Space Encounters is has True Way, Elachi, and Breen. But only Borg Red Alerts.

    And while we're here. Why not add some Inconian Deep Space Encounters. Other than the ones I listed. Alpha Quad is boring. No wonder the humans left it.
