Lately, there is just to many special events and I'm not the only one to think it. There is nearly always at least one and often more at all time. And now is the worse. There is the Delta Recruit, that last 7 weeks. But this also give server wide bonuses, so you want to play your other characters too, to take advantage of it. I had 3 available character slots, so I used them, we had 7 weeks to do something with them. And now, season 10 is already there, with not 1 but 2 new feature episodes and one that I will probably do multiple times, with at least some characters to get the special items. I don't now, but I have a live outside of the game and right not, I just cannot keep the pace. And it's like that for some time now. There was special long term event with special week-end event. I just want to play the game sometime, not just rush for the special events. Oh, I was forgetting, there is also the new reputation, that require us to do some PvE to gain marks.
And I was not that impress with the contain lately. Delta Rising was not so good, not bad, but... Now season 10 come with 2 new features episodes, that I may have enjoyed more, if it was not of the perpetual rush for special events.
Maybe some people have no live outside of the game and need this constant flow of new events. But, for the rest of us, it just too much and we just don't have the time to enjoy the game anymore. At this pace, I will not keep up. Up to now, the fact that this is Star Trek and the fact that I made friends in the fleet have kept me in the game. But I'm not sure that it will be enough if things continu like that.
I just want to play the game sometime, not just rush for the special events.
How do special events interfere with gametime? They're here, but you don't need to care. Its just special rewards for those that need a larger carrot than gameplay can normally provide.
I know, from a completionist's point of view it can be frustating. But increasingly in STO that's not necessary.
Bipedal mammal and senior Foundry author.
Notable missions: Apex [AEI], Gemini [SSF], Trident [AEI], Evolution's Smile [SSF], Transcendence
Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
You don't have to do all of the special events. You don't have to do all of the new content immediately right after it's released. If you can't help yourself, then that's on you.
After only 4 months, 19 weeks, 134 days, it's here. It's real!
You are not alone OP. The game has become more and more of a rush type game (not to mention bug city). Some of us do have lives. Some of us don't sit in our parents' basement and play hours and hours of gameplay.
I have to agree with the OP, with the Delta Recruits you had to rush through the weekly events, while doing that I missed the Featured Episode Uneasy Allies, now I have to wait. Yes my bad for not doing it but my point is I feel rushed to get things done, now I have to either buy zen to get more duty officer and inventory slots, mine dilithium or say hell with it and delete the toon's. Just how I fill sometimes.
No I haven't been playing since beta, no, not one toon has completed all the episodes.
Guess I feel if I don't start what ever event is running I will miss out on the rewards. Im not blaming STO, developers or cryptic. Its the user and in my case its me.
This isn't content that goes away after a set period of time, if you're too busy with something to get to the new Feature Episodes or to run some of the new Ques, then just.. do them later. Even Delta Recruit just requires you to create your character before a certain date, you can do content at your own pace.
Removing content helps no one. People that don't wish to run content for whatever reason can simply skip it. If you feel overwhelmed, simply narrow your focus. The frequency in which content is added is the main thing keeping STO alive.
Sadly they constantly time gate stuff so instead of options we are left abandoning some projects to participate in others that will be gone tomorrow.
For example: to get the Fleet version of my Phantom, I need to tediously grind my Shipyard up to T2, so my Delta Recruits are on hold until that mess is over.
For example: to get the Fleet version of my Phantom, I need to tediously grind my Shipyard up to T2, so my Delta Recruits are on hold until that mess is over.
Or you could simply just join a Fleet which has been T5 for a couple of years and have the ship in a matter of moments.
I am uncertain how it is any games' "fault" if you decide to grind all required Fleet advancement material on your own rather then with Fleetmates - and that would be true whether talking STO, WOW, SWTOR, etc.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I think this is the first time in the history of ever that there's been complaints of there being too much to do in an MMO.
Yeah. The game has 3 new episode missions of the Iconian War coming out soon. I guess we need to stop them too.

This is just silly, I worked 8 days straight the first week that delta recruits went live and I still somehow managed to get in some game time to get event stuff.
Granted each person is different but OH MY LORD, people are actually asking that we go back to drought mode?
And they did slow us down, unless some people didn't notice the xp gain rates after level 50?
The one and only thing they need to slow down on is the release of ships.
The one and only thing they need to spend more time doing is Star Trek resource material for ideas on costumes and stuff, not using Mass Effect and Tron for inspiration.
I think this is the first time in the history of ever that there's been complaints of there being too much to do in an MMO.
I don't complain about the fact that there is too much to do, but that there is too much to do in a limited time. Having new stuff to do is good. But having to do it in a limited period... I like to have the option of when to do it.
For example: to get the Fleet version of my Phantom, I need to tediously grind my Shipyard up to T2, so my Delta Recruits are on hold until that mess is over.
This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.. neither of those options are 'time gated' in the least.
The Fleet Phantom isn't a limited time availability. You can get it at anytime, you don't have to rush your starbase.
The Delta Recruits only have to be created within the time window and after that can be finished at your own pace.
The issue in your example isn't the game pushing too much on you, it's you lacking patience. Pick the one that's most important and do that.. you're not going to lose anything for diverting your attention. All this means is that you have more stuff to do.
The only time I can see these complaints having any validity is for things like the Anniversary/Winter Events where the reward had to be completed in a set amount of time and then was no longer available. That's a system I would like to see done away with.
Well it depends on how many alts you do,because to be honest both episodes are kinda short,at the most an hour and change to get both done on one character...
Now if you have like 9 characters yeah i have to agree it a whole lot of missions to run but to be honest why would you want to run them with all? Unless you REALLY need the rewards i see no other reason for you to HAVe to run them with all your alts.
P.S: And its not like you only have one week to do them, you have like what a full month? because even if you start the last week of the event you can still choose any or all of the 4 or 5 gear items that you get from doing the mission.
Actually, with my 3 new Delta Recruits, i'm at 15 characters!
I have to agree, event after event after event is getting to be problematic to keep pace with. Don't get me wrong I like new content and new things to do, but lately the events have been getting a little too grindy for me, with the exception of the Delta Recruit event that one I can take my time with, and the Dilithium rewards added to Episodes a few patches ago make it rewarding to go through those old missions again.:)
I know I don't have to participate in the events, but to get the rewards... yeah, we are 'heavily encouraged' to participate.
A break from the deluge of events would be nice, but I don't see it happening soon, the summer event will likely take off soon after the Delta Recruit event, luckily I still have some of those Pearls from last year so I can goof off during that event if I wanted.:D
Oh, and for the Delta Recruitment event, once you 'initialize' your recruits you could leave them idle for a while and finish up the DR requirements later. (which I plan on doing with my Fed, and Rom DR toons)
I've made 18 Delta Recruits so far for a total of 45 characters. Thinking of making 2 more for an even 20, definitely making 1 more so I can have a Rom for each faction that has managed to dismiss Tovan Khev from the active Boff roster.
Think the last patch blocked that from happening.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.
You are not alone OP. The game has become more and more of a rush type game (not to mention bug city). Some of us do have lives. Some of us don't sit in our parents' basement and play hours and hours of gameplay.
Why does it always have to resort to someone sitting in there parents basement? I sit and play for hours and I own my own house so what? As for the OP don't play it and stop whining about something so trivial.:D
This is just silly, I worked 8 days straight the first week that delta recruits went live and I still somehow managed to get in some game time to get event stuff.
Please define "worked." Did you do a physical job requiring your presence away from home or are you just playing STO on your work terminal?
So Cryptic's working hard to provide as much content as the most ravenous player can consume to make sure that no one's ever bored or thinks there's no reason to log in and play (great retention strategy, btw).
However, your self-centured self wants everyone else with more time to play to sit around bored, or worse leave the game, generate bad reviews, and generate less revenue to support the game all because you can't keep up?
Yeah, let's Cryptic stop making so much great new content so you don't feel so far behind.
Nope. You have to have a T2 shipyard yourself to get a T2 or T1 Fleet ship.
No, you do not. As someone who currently has 3 T5 Fleets (2 Fed and 1 KDF), with over 400 individual members, I assure you that anyone can join an existing T5 Fleet and buy things; assuming they have Fleet Credits. You do not need to take a Fleetbase to T2 YOURSELF to get those ships.
There is a guy on this forum who posts free membership to his T5 Fleet for people to buy things all the time.

On one hand i agree with the OP as the recent content does make one feel like they are being rushed to complete everything all at one time or miss out on one or the other.
On the other i disagree on amount of content as per to say removing content i do not agree i do however think instead of releasing event so tightly packed and bunched together release them in intervals.
That way we have time to breath and can actually complete them without having to abandon the other event.
Lately its been on special event after another in rapid succession giving some players who are casuals like myself fits trying to get them done.
I do get it that cryptic and PWE is turning STO into a asian style MMO which means beyond insane grinds and rapid fire event just to keep people in the game but most players dont like this style or cannot keep pace with it.
I like the content i like the amount of content but i do not like how bunched together it is and how you need to rush to do everything or lose out on stuff.
Yeah I'm not sure where the OP wanted to "remove Content" ... where is this coming from exactly ... but if some people claim, that earning as much Fleet Credits as possible, for Bonus GPL-Week is content now, it's a really sad day for STO ...
New FE Series, and Queues etc : hoooray Other Events with lots of (pointless) "Busy-Work" : booo
But nevermind ... who else is excited for "DABO WEEK" ... let's earn some Fleet Credits :P ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.

I agree +1. I never know what the whining was about from my gamer buddies... about grind games online. I started playing STO because: STAR TREK + diversion from life grind. Now I can feel the game grind as a constant irony to my life grind.
More content is better. I just wish the content was more complex, like more two-or three dimensional mission maps instead of the five to nine linear encounters that must all be completed in order. Or more depth to the toons in story lines (there are plenty of games out there with branching plot threads, so that there is more than one thing going on in game to keep you interested).
I enjoy being deeply drawn into a complex fiction novel, rather than repeatedly reading a comic book over and over. The game is too much of the later, not enough of the former. At least it has STAR TREK.
Sure, I'm not currently up to date with all the latest things being released and the events do much to keep me busy but that's fine. I'm taking it easy doing things at my own comfortable speed. And I fully encourage Cryptic to keep releasing new content regularly and frequently.

I have my own Fleet and won't be leaving it as it's a family affair and I started it.
I have been INVITED to someone's starbase with a T5 shipyard and had to explain to them that I have to have a T2 shipyard in MY Fleet to buy one from HIS Fleet's shipyard.
Oh and I like all the content, pore it on, just stop with all the stupid time gating.
Put stuff up and leave it.
Don't tell me when to play or how much.
I don't know how to get this through to them, but this is the one thing that could save this game forever.

You can quit your Fleet, join any of the free Fleets - like the one I linked to - buy what you want, quit that Fleet, then have someone in your Family Fleet re-invite you back to your Fleet. Problem solved. 5 minutes work.
But beyond all that, this goes back to my original post. Do not blame the game for your choices - such as to run your own Fleet.

I only blame the game for coming up with the Fleet system which is just an MMO pacifier/ resource sink created during the content drought so they didn't have to make anything that they again GATED things behind.

Pretty sure that's intentional ... without constant "Event Bombarbment", people would probably notice "certain things" ... [panem et circenses]
