I really don't like it, but only because it's an established character with an entirely heterosexual romantic history. They haven't -revealed- anything, they've retconned the entire character.

The only way I can get behind something like this is a situation like Ultimate Universe Collosus. Brand new take on the character, TRIBBLE from the beginning, 100% ok with it and is a great way to differentiate the two series. But this business with Iceman is just ... stupid. It's like they said "hey let's make someone TRIBBLE, throw a dart at that list of characters"
Yeah, it really doesn't make sense.... but the ENTIRE O5 story doesn't make sense either. Talking to your past selves to put your current actions in perspective? ok sure.... having them around for.... how many issues??? that's dumb. then you start going into situations with alternate future versions of the characters... ugh....

Also... yeah, I'm pretty sure this is O5 Jean not the main timeline Jean. She's kinda dumb at using telepathy because she doesn't have years of training. Sometimes she apparently gets confused as to whether someone actually said things out loud or just thought them.

And yes, the entire storyline is Bendis's work...

As for the Failed Relationship angle.... Wolverine. He's had so many flings that someone put together a small army of his children and tricked him into killing them just to make him angry.

Shatterstar is another example. The character was written from the start as bi and made about as many waves as a gentle breeze.

So the question is i care why?
I don't know why either, but you apparently do indeed care. After all, you took the trouble to tell us how incredibly wasteful you were, and to talk about a situation you don't have a lot of information on - it must matter to you on some level...

Following that logic, let's make Superman into a Middle Eastern trans sexual midget with Aspberger syndrome because no one will care about anyone else.

    I would watch that movie.

    Anyways....a TRIBBLE x-men....yay I guess?

Alternatively, they could have just created a whole new character to get the point across instead of attempting to use an excuse like this which quite frankly stretches the imagination.
They did that already, several times.... I'm sure you can guess what the reaction was, based on the fact no one ranted about it. :P

Not sure why this needs to be in every comic or why this is really a big thing/

to perpetuate the lie that ppl are born TRIBBLE to our children in an attempt to condition them.

Because of course people would choose a life of ostracism, hatred, bigotry, and the possibility of death at another's hands, particularly should they choose to go overseas. After all, somebody was TRIBBLE in a comic book once!

    Your ignorance is showing, theta.

What? I have never seen any evidence that sexual orientation is a choice--only how people act on sexual urges. And whether or not one believes in *acting* on some of those urges, I do not condone cruelty on the basis of sexual orientation.

I admit, I think the poor execution of this Iceman plot makes it come off as checking a demographic or PC box as opposed to some of the far more skillful alternatives to accomplish basically the same thing, that other posters have proposed, but I have to point that statement of yours out as lacking evidence.

    Captains,

I believe we are now at the point where this conversation is really going to go bad. I wasn't thrilled with it before, I expected that there would be a problem with controversy sooner or later, and now it's taking a turn for the worse.

Since this forum does not exist to discuss sexuality or Marvel comics or sexuality in Marvel comics, I believe that the best course of action is to end the thread here. There are lots of other forums out there for discussing Marvel comics, feel free to discuss it there.

Passing the buck to some other moderator somewhere else? You betcha. Let somebody else get their fair share. We've got more than enough here to go around.
