I just hope there is a way to get 'Iconian Marks' other then ques.
This. Personally, I don't really do STF's (just like I rarely did "dungeons" in other MMOs). So I'm hoping there's something more to the season than two quests and waiting for the summer event to turn parrots into "any mark" boxes.
Of course, the sector space revamp will give me a reason to level another alt (still need a KDF-aligned Rom) to see how flying around the great big galaxy is. But that's not part of the Big War.
It's not the marks themselves that you should be worried about - they're usually pretty easy to obtain. Nope - it's the power cell type items that are usually the problem.
They're supposedly adding new rep projects to turn 100 regular marks into the Elite marks (power cells/etc).
The sector space revamp is neat. Biggest problem with it though is that they've added new places to go to, but once you get there there's nothing to do.
They've stated on I think several occasions that while they are adding a lot of new locations to the STO galaxy map they, as a developer working on a real project, can't provide each of those locations with its own explorable map, missions, or other content. Some surely will, but you can't expect brand new FE's on Tellar Prime, Betazed, and all of the other represented planets with this or even several other seasons (just look back at what the devs are capable of doing with seasons, they're not going to multiply existing game content several times over again.)
Foundry people on the other hand, who have been working at this problem for quite some time, on the other hand can make up for the difference. This is why they updated the sector blocks recently to include relevant foundry missions at all applicable locations.
Fine-****ing-ly, we get to explore strange new worlds. Not those hyped by PR and shot through cryptic's dev priorities, but anything that someone decided to throw together because they cared enough to do so. That surprised, depth, and variety has been great since the last sector update and this next one is going to make the process of exploring the galaxy and playing random **** even better.
STO is fundamentally becoming a better game with S10. Its got a better format to place its content in. Episodes, queues, and zones? Sure, but soon the pieces will all be in place for distinctly non-grind alternatives worth considering out there in the universe.

Missing the point on the sector block update is like saying "well, I like driving but I don't see why we have to have all these roofs on our cars. What was wrong with open top buggies? Massive developer fail, they should have spent the time making my horn honk with more oomph!"
Sure, you can make that complaint, but it does call into question just what the hell you see in this game if its not how its built.
The Sector Space revamp changes nothing for the game for me. I'm still going to use all my transwarps to get wherever I'm trying to go. In the few cases where I wouldn't use a transwarp, the Sector Walls actually kept me at the game - cause I knew that I'd have to move to the next Sector. Now, I might just forget that I'm even logged into the game.
Just because you may tent your shorts over it doesn't mean everybody else has to tent their shorts over it. I said that from the start...different people like different things. I don't like it. I see it as a waste. Others won't. But of course the Taco Boyz have to rush to his defense.

Distrassingly, it looks like no new fleet holding.
Interestingly, the best part about season 10 for me.
After 3 years of STO I encountered enough time gates and recourse sinks in this game. They were fun at a time where we had no reputs, crafting and upgrades but today? No thanks.

Are you purposely being obtuse? Or is it just some tissy you're having?
If I'm flying from point A to point B and I need to be at the game to make that happen...then I've got to be at the game. If I'm flying from point A to point B and it's just an autopilot thing that will complete whenever it completes...then I don't have to be at the game, do I?
Any time something new to do is added to the game I will call that a good day. I remember the year between Cloaked Intentions and 2800 where we got nothing new but a FTP conversion - though, technically they did add in the broken Borg Red Alerts in that year, but the rest of the year was quiet; too quiet.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Are you purposely being obtuse? Or is it just some tissy you're having?
No I'm just pointing out how irrational your point of view is when you take having more loading screens as a valuable gameplay feature. The rest should be self-evident. To put it midly, you're inventing a very irrational arugment to be a contrarian (similarly to how people complained about the potential immorality of rail travel to justify an irreconcilable state of grumpiness with change they didn't specifically approve of.)
Its not worth consideration. You wanted something else (and given that the other aspects of the game are recieving customary attention in S10 its hard to see where the "cost" is factoring in here.) You didn't get that. Ergo, bull****.

But I'm hoping that there will be a season 10.5 down the track to give us something more.
These will (probably) work with the Foundry Top 3 system, so you might be able to start a mission just by flying to that location.

I love that feature. You are just flying around and a Mission pops out. Good stuff.

Yeah that is a weird one. I didn't understand the whole "screensaver" analogy/insult either. The loading screens are just as much a screensaver as anything else, if not more so.
You're normally a pretty bright guy, so I'm not sure how something so simple is eluding you.
Hit up Tribble, set your destination as New Romulus from Sol...off you go. Nothing happens on the journey. You just watch...like watching a screensaver. When you go to make that trip again...it's exactly the same.
Now if they had included some form of random encounters as folks were flying around - where something might actually happen and offer some interaction...no screensaver analogy to be made. Whether it was a flyout pointing to a nearby anomaly to scan, whether it was an attack by NPCs, whether it was a distress call from some NPC being attacked by other NPCs, if it was anything - anything at all that might pop up during those travels...would be a different world.
No I'm just pointing out how irrational your point of view is when you take having more loading screens as a valuable gameplay feature. The rest should be self-evident. But I didn't say that. You having a tissy interpreted my saying what I did as saying that. All I said is what I said...it kept me at the game, quite literally, more than the change will. I offered an opinion...you got your panties bunched...kind of sums it up.

In all fairness to your statement, how is that different then what we have now?
Now we have to target a Sector Wall. Then fly there - while doing nothing. Then zone past the wall. Then target our destination - assuming we do not need to target another Sector Wall. Then do nothing while we fly there.
If nothing else at least we are removing all the Sector Wall targeting/stopping/zoning. Plus it opens up the fact that using Slipstream does not crash us into Sector Walls before the Slipstream runs out.

No but its a direct implication. Before you had to think about where to fly (ie. navigate) Now you don't, except where there's the two remaining transitions. That clashes with your expectations of sector travel, you should have to think because that's the way you've played the game for n years.
Does that have anything to do with the mechanical advantage of having 3 big maps as opposed to dozens of little ones? No, those don't factor at all. What we have instead is a statement of subjective value which is so unusual in its basis that its more likely to assume that you're trying to fit the facts of a distressingly proactive update (which doens't explicitly cater to your playtime) to suit an unsatisfied opinion.
Let me state this quite simply for you: Your stated arguments in this case don't have an apparent rational basis. You may say "well that's the way I feel" but how much does that matter to any rational discussion of game design or, more specifically, this update? You may feel that way, but plenty of other people don't and for an update this long requested, this fundamental to the shape of the game, you can stuff your opinion.
Red Alerts haven't been removed, nor have random enemy encounters.

the only thing i dont get it, if devs are so proud on delta rising why go to alpha quadran so fast efter delta?
One has nothing to do with the other. That is like saying: "if the Devs are so proud of LoR why did we not have more content set in Romulan space? Why did we go and fight Undine and Voth and whatnot?"
Expansion Packs expand the game, but that does not mean everything most now only focus on the Expansion Pack areas. SWTOR put out a Makeb EP, and the new EP is set on Rishi/Yavin. Just because you add something to the game does not mean you must only use those things.
But I've stated exactly how it is different...the wall itself...at least required some interaction. It kept the window open or checking the window to see when I got there, so I'd move to the next sector, and then continue the trip. As craptastic interaction as can be, but still some form of interaction - something requiring me to keep tabs in some way on my progress to my destination...as opposed to setting the destination and just forgetting about it...possibly even forgetting that I'm playing the game if I get distracted by something else in the least.
They added the Foundry thing to the planets - but you have to fly right up to the planet to get that. If they widened the range of those - if they offered a larger selection or a random selection of some sort - so that if you were within a given range you got a flyout or the like that something might be going on over yonder during your travels...that would be great too.
We didn't tune in week to week to the various series to watch a ship fly from point A to point B with nothing happening...they'd have a destination and something would happen along the way, right? This doesn't give us that.
What it gives me, personally, is simply more opportunity to get distracted by something else.
Knowing that I'm going to hit that sector wall pretty quick, is going to keep me in the seat. Not a fan of them, but they do what they do. Without the sector wall, I might go to get a drink - might go for a smoke - might make a sandwich...and who knows if I'm going to return to the game.
Seven some years ago in EVE when it was less crowded and less dangerous as well as before they changed up their travel patterns...I could spend weeks trying to get to some point of interest. It would be cool to go look at something I hadn't seen before. Space was vast - there was stuff to see - it offered an element of exploration. Even with the walls down...STO's space is tiny. Sector Space reminds me of the Fixer Grid in AO more than anything.
I am sorry, but it just seems like a very pedantic way of looking at this. Sit around looking a scenery for 1.5 minutes, click a button, and then look at more scenery for 1.5 more minutes versus look at scenery for 3 minutes.

The worst rep in the game is the Nikura rep when it game out. Hard and boring to level it.
Afterwards...like a year later....they made some stf queues that nobody ever played because they already had their rep.
This is the thing, if cryptic creates 2 queue for the iconian rep....then in a few months creates more content for it....why would anyone play it since they already have the rep maxed?
There is nothing more frustrating when cryptic
1) removes content and when they
2) put In content to late

Its been a multi-season lead-up to Delta Rising but a pan-game lead-up to the iconians. If you have to sweep DR under the rug to give the more important conflict a better venue (ie. one players might care about, New Talax under attack doesn't have the same poster value IMO) why wouldn't you?
