Just the one. I'll only switch out to earn a Starship Trait, as quickly as possible and then switch back.

    Why?

It's my ship. Star Trek captains don'ts switch ships (or fly alien ones) unless they don't have a choice in the matter (baring shuttles of course).

Each character I make, I make for a specific ship, a particular build, or a specific "theme", and I build my character(s) with that in mind.

The only time I switch ships on a character is to run a T6 long enough to get the ship trait. Sometimes the T6 is the ship for that character, and sometimes it's a T5U... it just depends on the character...

    ^^ This ^^

    :)

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

I used to switch up on occasion when I was running only one character (my original).

Now, I settle on one for each character when they reach endgame. At least, until something comes along that I like better after trying it out.

I don't switch ships as a rule. If i get a new ship, then I check and see if it's better than the one I am flying. If it is, then I switch. Otherwise I just stay where I am.

As I like to write about my captain's, I don't like switching ships on them. So I don't switch unless I get better ship, or have have a real need to do so for writing purposes.

I have many, many toons, each of them with up to 5 ships. Each time I play a toon I change ship, just to vary up the game. Why?

Because even though it's not realistic for a captain to change ships all the time, this game is far from realistic AND my toons are Admirals, a rank that don't realistically go out flying all the time. As far as I'm concerned those lack of realisms cancel.

I like to vary things up. With PvP being what it is (driving players away) I find that doing the same old end game stuff gets VERY boring VERY quickly. Changing ships helps keep the game somewhat interesting.

That being said I am finding that I'm logging on less. There's just not enough interest for me anymore.

During FEs or anything the first time doing that mission. I have 1 ship as that is my ship. Now if I do repeats or in DR's case the repeat patrols. I swap ships to have fun in them.

I used to switch ships pretty often as I had a dozen or so fleet and fleet level ships, but now with the latest expansion I've stuck to one ship. I only use other ships when I'm after the trait.

    Fed is in a fleet t5u excelsior, kdf a fleet t5u b'rel, and my rr is I'm a fleet t5u d'deridex.

Usually one ship per char. At some point I may upgrade to a ship I like better, but there is no constant switching of ships.

It takes a lot of me to change ships for any meaningful length of time. I've had a love affair with the Patrol Escort since the game launched and have steadily upgraded as the upgrades came.

It took the Kumari ships and the 5/2 set up to get me out of that line of ships. Now I rock the Vaad escort as my first lockbox ship and I actually wanted to own and fly. I just love the look. It reminds me so very much of the human ships in Reach for the Stars (old 4X game).

It basically takes something big and powerful to get me to switch ships. I have other toons for that rock Chimeras, Nebulas (I will always love you) Galaxies (See Nebula) Galaxy X (See Galaxy) Schimi (sometimes you just want to FAW your problems away and feel like a god) and even a Vo'qov (relic from back when KDF were the only ones that got carriers).
Cheers from Antonio Valerio Cortez III, Half-Celestial Archduke of the Free Marches Confederacy.

Do you switch ships or do you have your one and only?

i tried running a t1 ship upt the ranks, its harder then it looks with cruisers, battleships and carriers. specific enemies like breen and borg will make short work of you, the only thing that keeps you alive in a fight with a t1 are your shields, when those are gone your fight is already over.

so for any average sto player, one and only? you figure it out.

but i typically use the risian cruiser or excelsior both at t5u these days, it suits my style of play.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

Each of my characters is created with their "end ship" in mind, so everyone has his or her one and only command. I might switch ships sometimes for fun or to grind a trait but every one of them basically has their ship with two exceptions because I don't have a ship that I think fits the characters really well - the initial choice I made turned out to not statisfy me afterwards, so those are a bit wibbly-wobbly (timey wimey) right now

I switch Ships to get a different experience. Im always playing with my builds and different ships.

I like to imagine that every ship is in the Task Force that my starship the U.S.S. Intercept belongs too. Helps to feel as if Im not really alone out there fighting the good fight.

I tend to build a character to a ship class because having one ship per character is boring but having a skill spec for everything is ineffective.

Depends really. My fed tac kind of switches between many ships, mainly because it has many to choose from, like Defiant, Phantom, Sovereign, Excelsior, MVAE, Tempest, Avenger and so on. My fed sci runs the Intrepid, Vesta or Science Odyssey (every other Odyssey variant is invalid), my Romulan tac runs Scimitar, Contortrix or Faeht and my newly created Recruit is running a Presidio.

Each of my Mains have their one and only ship. However with all the event ships lying around, for my main Marrek, he has his T5U Avenger, then his DSD, Carrier, Breen ships, Risan ships as part of his squadron and they all serve a different function.

One has all beams, one is torps yadda yadda yadda.

    One captain, one ship.

I really wish T6 ship mastery traits could be purchased via microtransactions.

    Depends.

On my Fed main, I bounce between ships to get the traits, but my main ships are the Dauntless, T6 Intrepid, T5-U Vesta and a T5-U Fleet Nova.

On my KDF main, I used to stick with the Bortasqu, but with the number of good KDF ships that have come out recently, I now mainly use my Ty'Gokor class or Negh'Tev class.

For my Rom main, I pretty much only use the D'Deridex variants. I used to use a Fleet T5-U D'Deridex Retro, but right now i'm working on the mastery for my D'Khellra before transferring to a Fleet D'Khellra, as well as having a Tac-Command cruiser on the go. I've got a few other ships that I use, like the Aehlal, Adapted Battlecruiser and Monbosh, but I barely use them anymore.

Good question. Just the one for me - an Advanced Escort which I've flown since I hit Level 50 back in 2012 and have only ever upgraded to Fleet and T5-U. I love the design, how I've customised it and have some emotional investment into the ship ("I'm taking the STO journey with this vessel like you see on a show).

Plus, it performs pretty well with a pretty much 90% min/maxed optimal build.

    Depends for me.

-My main Fed usually sticks to her Jem'hadar Attack Ship, as in character, it's used to test new technologies Starfleet developed, which also explains why a ship that was very fragile in canon became a tough powerhouse here. Sometimes, she goes to use another while the JHAS is in spacedock to add new tech (the IC explanation of "keeping the JHAS safe while levelling a T6 ship for the trait")

-My KDF is a ship fashionista, so if she finds one she likes better than the current one, she'd go and capture it. Currently, she sends incompetent crew members to die in Choas fighters while she uses her Sarr Theln.

BOTH- most of my chars have a ship.. they fly it exclusively and focus on it.. Some of my chars have 2 ships for special circumstances.. Like my Fed Tac, F Galaxy X for missions where I need to tank F Avenger for when I need to be fire support...

Depends on the mood. I tend to stick then swap out every so often to try something different.

My main character, a Tactical Fed, used the Defiant for the longest time and I wrote it into his bio that it was destroyed by the Borg when I decommissioned it. I swapped to the Chimera, then the Phantom but now he resides in the Presidio.

My Engineer used the Galaxy for some time, then the Ambassador, Oddy and currently flies the Concorde, though I'm debating swapping back to the Galaxy currently.

My science character is the one that varies the most. Right now I'm unlocking the trait on the Scryer but I'm coming to like the ship despite the looks, however I'm leaning towards going with the Pathfinder at the end of it.

Firstly to start I do not fly lockbox ships except the mirror style ones and Kazon/APU

I love the ships in STO, it is what makes the game for me, so I fly a variety of them across toons and switch all the time with no specific favourites, I will even switch between STF runs or run episode arc with a different ship and ground layout each mission.

    Fed Tact -
    • T1 Conny , T1 Miranda , T2 Gladius Escort , T4 Defiant , Mirror Advanced Escort , MVaE FT5U , T5U Tact Oddey , U Kazon Raider , U APU , T5U Dyson Sci Destroyer , T5U Atrox Carrier , T6 Phantom , T6 Eclipse , T6 Guardian , T6 Kobali , Aeon Timeship

    Rom Eng - -
    • Whatever ships came free levelling , T3 Vandal Destroyer , U Kazon Raider ,U APU , T6 Faeht Warbird , T6 AElahl Battlecruiser, Stupid Shuttle

I do not want any of the Command ships, Iconic Cruisers, Dyson Ships other than freebie, Galaxy Classes, or any lockbox/lobi ships.

Would love to collect some more C-Store ships though, slowly over time I will get more of them, especially Excelsior, Avenger , Vesta , Kumari , Scimitar , Armitage , and Intrepid T6 Bundle.

I could never stick to a ship per character.

My Fav thing to do is Run Advanced in a T1 or T2 though :) Can get between 5k and 10K dps dependant on ship and class, more than enough!

Before Delta Rising, I played multiple ships on multiple characters all the time. I did have some ships that I liked the most, but I was testing different builds, and combinations of builds.

After Delta Rising, I don't have the time to grind more than 1 character, and I don't even have the resources to level all of his gear up. So now, I have a main, and I just fly one character, on one ship, and with one build.

If I get one of the free T6 grind event ships, I will use it till I get the ship trait. But between the Samsar, and the Breen Carrier, I like the Breen ship better. I already have the Ambassador from where they gave it away last year, so I don't need a T6 version of it, which is what the Samsar is. But for carriers, I don't have any from the C-Store. So the Breen Carrier is nice to have, in case they ever make it affordable to have multiple builds like before.

I am looking forward to the Summer grind event. I am hopeful that they will have a good T6 ship that is more than just a T6 version of a T5 ship we already have. I wouldn't mind a science ship with a Lt. Commander Tactical station. If not that, then 7 weapons slots (4 fore, and 4 aft) instead of the 6 that they now do.

Just think it would be nice to finally see a science ship with a heavy tactical support with Boff stations in it, instead of it being heavy engineering support.

My KDF engineer is wedded to her Negh'tev, its her baby. A very big, very loud, very tough baby, but still. Getting the most out of it is my ongoing project.

My Fed tactical I dusted off from two years hence is still pretty fond of his T5U FPER. I've been tempted to try him out in a Presidio or Phantom, but I'm still very happy with his Dervish.
