So... our Delta Recruits are basically Biff Tannen!!

timelord79timelord79 Member Posts: 1,852 Arc User
They learn in the past that they will come back from the future to inform us about them coming back from to future to inform us about them coming back from the future... to make us rich and powerful.

It can be rationalized now, that our toons are only so powerful and the youngest Admiral in history because they pull the biggest cheat in history all the while having the temporal Agency even condoning that scheme!!!

it really shouldn't work, but it does, because it already has. it's brilliant! Gotta love a looped predestination paradox:D

Yea...no. Biff had EVERYTHING laid out for him thanks to the almanach.
Our char only knows that stuff is happening but is not spoon-fed every detail (as is explained to us in the tutorial) so it's not really the same. We still have to actually work for our success.:)

Like every bad sci fi franchise. When you run out of ideas... TIME TRAVEL.

Lets be honest watching Bif and the train wreck that was BTTF II, was a lot more entertaining then seeing STO go to the time loop travel well.

Future Bobs1111 dropped by earlier to say hello though... let me know that in the future CBS will disavow any knowledge of their actions. Making STO non-canon.

I'm enjoying the bootstrap paradox that we're running. It's a fun little ride.

I concur. It feels very Star Trekky as well. Reminds me of episodes like Timeless and that episode of DS9 where O'Brien kept jumping forward in time uncontrollably, and then died but not before telling his past self how to save the day.

I disagree. I think so far Delta Recruit isn't half-bad considering it's a bolt-on to the main plot.

I think the OP has an interesting notion that our characters progress as fast as they do because they're armed with special knowledge of the future. Because you really wouldn't need a lot of detail to act on. That's all role-play, so disregard it if you want to.

Time travel is hard to get right when you start to worry about paradox. And the more complicated the timeline, the harder it gets to keep it all straight.

I wrote a fan-fic once that had to do with the heroes' use of time travel. It took careful plotting to make sure the story flowed in a logical order. My takeaway from that is that the KISS principle works for time travel stories, too. If you overcomplicate it you're going to lose the audience. I've also noticed that the more 'hops' your characters make, the more you end up needing to overlook or explain paradoxes. The flow of information across time counts, too.

I'll have to wait to see how it all plays out, but the time travel elements of the DRec storyline thus far are minimalistic enough that it keeps it from getting too complicated. Our goals are straightforward and... let's face it... by now most of us already know how all of these missions flow in-game. "Cross-temporal contamination" is already happening from our characters' perspectives because we players can't help but act on what we know is going to happen.

Especially with Temporal Agent Crey being a chatterbox whenever your Delta Recruit finds some Iconian technology or information. I though agents of secret organizations knew how to keep their mouth shut especially temporal agents about future events. Everything is supposed to be on a Need to Know basis. At least our Delta Recruit's future self knows how to keep their mouth shut.

    Delta Recruit be like:

leveling the eighth character that is good for absolutely NOTHING. Yay!

    ...#logic.

Really, why would someone start one of those?

As I pointed out in another thread, some of those early missions have been remastered. I won't necessarily say they play a lot differently, but they definitely look better. I've only gotten as far as level 15 as a Fed, so I can't say how much has been remastered or whether the other two factions have gotten as much love.

This was definitely more than copy pasting a bunch of objects into old maps. So, kudos to Cryptic for giving the old missions another pass and freshening them up.

If I didn't enjoy this game, I wouldn't play it. Delta Recruit is extra incentive to do something I already enjoy.

Also point out that for example on Crateris. I searched the map for the hidden iconian tech. Meaning you do more on some of these maps than you did before. A good idea in my opinion. Put little optional side quests on the game maps to reward exploration.

I haven't logged in for months but gave this a run and created a new Starfleet tactical officer. Playing the new missions was enjoyable despite being in a Miranda and the graphics/sound look great. It wasn't until I made it to lieutenant that I stopped playing; when I was awarded Evasive Maneuvers yet again. I have a total of 15, now 16 characters. 5 Starfleet, 5 Klingon, 5 Romulan. Of these 16, 7 of them are tactical officers. How will this character differ gameplay-wise from the others? That is what is killing STO for me. There just isn't enough of a variation of skills. There is little variation between the disciplines and none within the discipline. Same set of captain skills over and over and also the same bridge officer skills again and again. After 5+ years, I don't think I can bring myself to level and gear another character. I believe this promotion and its shinies are good for trying to rake in some late-comers to the world of STO at least.

My sentiments exactly, to me it seems like we are playing temporal intel for the future but, every time we collect some data, it seems they already know something in regards to it.

So, who exactly are we really gathering this intel for, them or, for ourselves?

Because if they are going to tell me what I need to know, every time I collect some data, than why not just tell me everything ahead of time?

Don't get me wrong, I am still having fun replaying content once again but, only because of this twist.

I'm just sad that my previously heroic main character is relegated to wannabe hero.. delta recruits are the real heroes of sto now, having a direct tie in with iconians and playing the exact same story... unless you headcanon it i suppose.

    Eh, wibbly-wobbly timey-whimey...

Yes but, imagine how stupid your past self feels, when finding that $5 you lost as some point, only for your future self to say "Yes, I knew about that the whole time."

Despite them not actually remembering it, until you just so happened to find it!

While I am enjoying a replay of the old content, the whole DR event flies completely in the face of everything we know about Time Travel and the disdain for temporal events that the Temporal Investigations guys at Starfleet have.

Oh and the Tesseract device? Really, you couldn't come up with ANYTHING more original? No doubt Marvel isn't too thrilled about you ripping off the Cosmic Cube.

Marvel does not have a trademark on the word tesseract.

A tesseract is a geometrical 4-dimensional object, which in this context, not ncessarily in Marvel'S universe, is used to communicate through the 4th dimension of time.

Really, the makers of Interstellar have more grounds to be pissed than Marvel. ;)

I would like to think that my KDF tactical toon is a bit more intelligent than Biff Tannen.

Especially since my recruit has not decided to eat any books so far.
