was wondering what the chances are of the LOBI ships that are currently T5-U moving all the way to T6. Maybe this has been talked about before but with a search get over 100 pages to sort though on it.
anyhow reason am asking is a ZEN ship is 2,500 ZEN or about $25.00. A LOBI ship you have to buy the lockbox keys and then the average drop for LOBI from each box is only 5.4176. each key to open a box is 112.5 ZEN (if a 10 key pack is bought) or $11.25. You would have to open approximatley 148 boxs or a cost of 16,650 ZEN. Taking this further down the maximum ZEN package is $100.00 for 10600 ZEN. So one LOBI ship has a cost of say approx. $158.00. even the current T6 ships are only 3000 ZEN or $30.00.
It would seem then from a marketing stand that making the LOBI ships T6 upgradable instead of only T5-U, would be a worthwhile thing to do. Bonus's would have to be comparable to the current T6's also which they are not.
My personal opinion of how they should handle it is one of two methods:
First - make Lobi Crystals easier to get. Originally, they weren't just in lock boxes but were rewards for rerun dailies and were much easier to obtain in a decent enough chunk to spend the 600-800 Lobi on a new ship with enough patience. They stopped doing reruns and now the only way to get Lobi Crystals is through lock boxes. I agree with you on the price gap - it would easily cost 100+ dollars to get the amount required for a ship, when you could just turn around and spend 30 on a better ship regardless. That would be different if there was a reasonable way to actually acquire the lobi.
Second: Lower the cost on Lobi crystal ships. Let's be honest here, as with what I mentioned above, the prices on ships are assuming people are able to get Lobi Crystals in more than just the lockbox manner - These prices are all hovering around the same prices and have been since they stopped doing reruns. Due to this, the prices of these ships are far too much for what they are worth. I say drop the price to 1/5th of what it is currently. The ships will still run someone about 20 bucks....(give or take luck/how much you wanna buy master keys in game, and so forth) - And it would help encourage players to buy master keys more because there is an actual reasonable chance they could get a Lobi Ship for cheaper than outright buying a T4-6 ship normally.
These are my opinions - and feel free to expand on them if you want.
You can always sell keys/boxes and buy the ship you want from the exchange.
And in the end you dont need so many ship traits as you can only slot 4 at a time so the only real difference is one boff slot when comparingT5U to T6.
And about 2 years after its release the T5U-Scimitar is still by far the best ship in the game.
But who cares game is still unplayable no matter what ship you use.
And pls dont learn how to really play this game because once you start doing more than 30 50 or even 100k dps you get threads how you're destroying the game or cheating or whatever.
Most Lobi-crystal ships are "Bind on pickup" - in fact I believe they all are. Which means you will NEVER find them on the exchange. I could be mistaken with that knowledge since I'm not logged into game right now or actively looking it up right now. But yeah - There is no "Buy the ship you want from the exchange" with those ships. It's spend the hundred something dollars in the keys or spend 2 mil a pop for the same keys and get the lobi crystals needed to buy it. Not to mention these unlock PER CHARACTER - not account.
You're thinking of the Lock Box ships, which are tradable.
However, Lobi Crystal ships are event ships for the most part - example being "Dyson Science Destroyer" - the level 40 variant is on that list. So if you decide randomly that you want to make a science officer that uses that exact ship for protonic damage - and decide that you want to start that ship usage at level 40, instead of 50 - you have to be willing to spend a ton more money than originally intended, jumping the price an additional 100 dollars, give or take luck.
((Also if you are using a science ship - the Dyson Science Destroyer in the Lobi Shop has probably the single best secondary deflector in the game and is the only way to get it.... So if you are using the tier 6 ship "Pathfinder Long Range Science Vessel", this means if you want the amazing secondary deflector - you gotta shell out a huge sum of money to get 600 Lobi Crystals))
Actually, unless there's been a recent change, they are NOT bound while still boxed. I bought a Lobi ship and sold it on the Exchange a few months ago (this was about half of how I financed an exchange-bought lockbox ship for my first character).
Also... backtracing to the OP's post.. your zen-to-$ conversion is off by a decimal. The cost of a key is $1.125 ($0.96 when on sale), not $11.25....
Also, T5U is in fact slightly superior to T6 in some ways... most T5U ships (with Fleet) have +1 console slot, and there's a wider variety... etcetera... compared to T6 having one extra BOFF power (usually at Lt level) and access to intel and/or Command abilities. And the biggest difference (favoring the T6) between the two - the Starship Trait - is portable once earned.
I just double checked, and you are correct - although for some oddball reason the Dyson Science Destroyer - the one with the secondary array most people seem to suggest on builds - is Character Bind on Pickup (WHY THAT IS THE ONLY SHIP IS BEYOND ME)
Although, after reading the prices on the items on the exchange, I question if people are actually stopping to think about profit on what they are selling.........COULD just be me...but those prices seem low for the ship compared to how much keys run.
I remember seeing somewhere that the rest were bind on pickup - so I am probably just misremembering somewhere - and I only cared about the Dyson because the secondary array interested me on one of my characters. So regardless, I have to figure out a way to somehow invest a hundred dollars into the game (or luck out with keys or be REALLY patent) for one piece of equipment for my poor science ship.
I believe that Dyson destroyer was the ship from an old anniversary event that could be bought with Qmmendations, hence the character bind-on-pickup attribute.
