PvP or PVE Batleth, Lirpa, or Falchion!

idashlaidashla Member Posts: 87 Arc User
Why aren't there any good PvP or PVE missions based around a character using a Batleth, Lirpa, or Falchion? Or for that matter, why don't they open up a couple of spots where characters could do a bit of battle versus a npc? Personally I think it would be a good small addition for Cryptic to add, especially there is a bit of Trek history that would lend itself for it already.

PvP would likely be a survial match between two teams or singular opponents. :o PvE on the other hand might be a holodeck challenge to go do battle on early Qo'nos before there were phasers, disruptors, or other good distance weapons. Do battle in the time when a Batleth was all that one needed to survive.

A good example of a couple of open areas are on Qo'nos and Vulcan. As we all know, there is the Batleth pit right near the bar, but the player cannot join in. It would be nice to be able to accept a small mission to battle the players in the ring whenever the mood strikes. I know many found that annoying that they cannot join in.

Also, we know that on Vulcan they can do battle during Pon Farr. It seems logical that isn't the only time that Vulcans use the Lirpa. One would think they recieve training in the weapon prior to such an event. Likely it is non-lethal somehow. Surely there could be a training area on Vulcan with a similar mission for those visiting.

I do not know of a good Romulan example, but maybe a third area in Romulan space could be made where Caitians did battle with Falchions, or similar.

Regardless, it seems like a missed opportunity to me. There should be at least some place that isn't ruled by phasers and disruptors. If only as a palate clenser.

Welll lets start simple... somewhat sarcastic but simple.

PvP is all but dead... I swear the life support has been pulled, the feeding tubes have been taken out... but it's hanging in there.. barely... with tooth and nail... but for all extensive purposes it's practically dead

That and ground PvP was never as popular as space PvP ever was because of the clunky ground controls

Okay so lets go back to the melee weapons and pve

First there is the arena mission... not great for melee... but it's there... the fact that this is Star Trek where lirpa's and Bat'leths and the like were pretty much props but only really showed up on occasion as real weapons kind of relegates them to second tier behind energy weapons.. for which Star Trek is known for. Think any Star Trek... ask anyone to quickly come up with the first ground weapon that comes to mind... you'll get phaser... or disruptor... or rarely any melee weapon....

Okay also... against the Borg... melee weapons are great... it's only (relatively) recently where we've been given decent ranged weapons to use against the Borg... but melee weapons will always be a staple of Borg Ground.

The fact that Cryptic made melee have any place in this is great...

The other thing is... if you want a ground PvP with just melee... get a private match going with the rules of only melee weapons...

done... but otherwise it's not worth the resources to make a special map for just melee when melee is a nitch.

Like I said, it could just be added to an existing map: Qo'nos (and Vulcan). The map is there. It would just be a tiny add to make it so you could do battle against NPC's. Kinda like you can buy that grumpy TRIBBLE a drink in the bar. A small fun repeatable mission to add to the Qo'nos experience.

"Come see ALL that Qo'nos has to offer! Come see the fire pits. Go Stab someone in the face in the arena. Then Yell at a drunk in our delightful drinking establishment." :D

There is one story mission where you get stuck with a melee weapon for part of it. During the Romulan arc.
