The A-10 isn't obsolete. It continues to do exactly what it was designed to do. It never had all of the bells and whistles of more advanced aircraft over it's service life. That was the idea behind it from drawing board to production.

Discounting the fact that the US has not fought a standard army vs standard or superior army war since ... a long time .
Meaning that the A-10 has not faced modern anti aircraft warfare .

... and back on topic, I'm still waiting for someone to glorify the D'Kyr as their Sci ship of choice . For example I love it ... on my Tour of the Galaxy guy ...

Hyperbole is the anti-matter that keeps this forum's engine soaring to new distances

A ship is obsolete the moment they release it.

There's always something better to come down the pipeline.

None of our current modern aircraft have faced a standard or superior army.

The B-52 is one of our few actual warbirds flying. (Along with the AC-130 but wasn't as much a penetrator as the BUFF.) It faced comparable Russian ground based air defenses for its time.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Yep. People around here seem to be overly obsessed with having whatever is "the best", which generally means whatever's newest and shiniest. I can see where you might be able to make the argument that having the newest and best is critical for success in PVP, but "obsolete" ships are still perfectly capable in all PVE, which is what 99.9% of us are playing anyway.

I like to think of my T5U FA as a '57 Chevy. 396 with a Holley 750 dropped in. Hurst shift kit for the Muncie 4 speed. Mickey Thompsons all around.

Can almost hear the Thrush glasspacks as I rumble up and down the Sirius Sector Strip.

That analogy...actually works. The modded up classic would be a sight to behold going up and down the strip, although a modern day car would give lower ETs, that doesn't make the classic any slower than it was before

    but you already have them.

What makes a ship obsolete is buying it NOW when for the same funds you could get a ship that performs better. I still fly several old boats too, but I would not buy any of them today...

That's true to a certain extent. Something like the B'rel is a bad example, because the B'rel is an iconic Trek ship that many people choose to fly simply because it's a B'rel. It doesn't matter to those people that newer ships outperform it. I feel the same way about the D'Deridex and I know plenty of people feel that way about the Galaxy.

For something like the Bortasqu' I agree with you completely. The Bort was never a great performer to begin with and has now been completely outclassed by the new Command ships. I'm a Bort fan, but buying one has always been an iffy proposition, and I would never recommend that anyone buy one now.

Good post. This is what obsolete means now.

There are things worse than obsolete, terms like ineffective or impractical and such come to mind. Examples include attempting end-game content with a T1 ships and Shuttles. It might be possible, but isn't very practical.

Sort of like riding a horse to work in real life. Doesn't mean there's no places for horses (I adore them), but they are in the world of transportation obsolete and impractical.
