Although I grew up on Next Generation, I realize that there would be no Star Trek without Spock. The fact that he was alien and yet a fully developed character indicated from episode 1 that the show was going to be something different.
Many people realize this and many people care deeply about Star Trek due to its hopeful vision that there might be a future for our species. Not only does it provide hope, it also begins to show us some methods we might employ to make this vision a reality. Indeed, many scientists and astronauts got into their fields because of Star Trek, and many are obsessed with making the technology of Trek real. Many of the advances we have seen in the last 10 to 20 years are Trek gadgets made real.
ill be blunt , sorry guys but i hate TOS , dose not tell me anything. As for Nemoy ... he wasn't a very good artist to moan him. Inspiration for space exploration ... Carl Sagan , yes , but Nemoy ...
You may not have been inspired by Nimoy or the Original Star Trek, but many Scientists have been. There are a great deal of inspirational people who credit their fascination with Science to Star Trek and specifically people like Leonard Nimoy. You may not be influenced by him directly, but the chances are that most or all of the people that do inspire you drew their own inspiration from Star Trek and from Leonard Nimoy.
Star Trek is one of the most influential pieces of our culture. Rather it influenced you directly or indirectly, it's effect is the same.

"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Scientists ... i think they ware more inspired by the tonns of sci-fi novels rather than TOS. The other series of ST ware good , nice and revolutionary ideeas. Hornets? , culture and Star Trek? .... why i keep forgetting that i speak with americans ...
Yeah, fine, he was a good actor in a decent show, and this is a Star Trek MMO. That doesn't excuse acting like you lost a family member. It's not like any of you ever knew him personally.
I agree... It's great to celebrate his life and all, but some people don't seem to be putting it in perspective at all. On the upside, at least the Vulcan map has a use now. :P
I heard someone on Vulcan say that Leonard Nimoy was a great friend to them. I asked "When did you meet him?" and you can guess the answer: they never met him, talked to him or even saw him in person.
Get a grip folks. It's sad that he's dead but he was NOT a friend or family member to you unless you were actually a member of his family or a real life friend to him.
As I have mentioned in another thread the best way to show your respect would to be a donation to one of his charities and a prayer for him and his family (if you are that way inclined).

It doesn't matter.
What matters is that "TOS" means something to 'trekkers' and 'trekkies'.
I like science-fiction franchises in which have small audiences. 'Highlander', 'Star Trek: TOS', 'Star Trek: TNG', 'TimeCop', 'Seven Days', 'Beastmaster', 'Dune', 'Stargate', and 'Firefly' have small cult followings. If the allure of those franchises seem trivial, the only thing I can say is, "Good".
iI think everyone is entitled to there own opinion. but if you are stateing you're opinion with the soul purpose to TRIBBLE people off then you need to take a look at you're self and ask why do i feel i need t say these things.

People handle death differently and for some, his passing will be a big hit to them emotionally. It doesn't matter if you knew the man personally, or if it was just from watching tv.

It's a great place to find the occasional awesome non sequitur. This one from today:
"I might be Romulan but I loved Nimoy as a brother."
reality... fantasy.. who cares.
